Catching up with DF couple in supermarket frustrating.
by jemba inhubby and i (faders) were in the supermarket today.
we had just avoided and completely ignored an elder and his wife when we saw a newly married couple who were both recently disfellowshipped, of course being the rebels we are we made a bee line for them.
the df man was until recently a workmate of my hubby so they quickly got into an animated discussion and i met the new wife who seemed nice but let me know they were getting reinstated asap.

I let them know that it was my DF years ago that set me on the path to realising that it wasnt the true religion.
The guys first wife had divorced him years ago but not 'scripturally' so if either of them wanted to marry again they would have to 'commit adultery' so it was up to him to free himself so he could marry this new lady.
I cant believe that after all the cult has put them through they still feel like its Gods chosen religion. Its so frustrating that they just cant see it.
But at least I got to put on a show for the ex-bethel couple who I imagine were in shock.
The DF couple invited us to drop around anytime but I really dont see the point because they just want to be JWs again and could never respect us for our stand.

WHAT ARE YOUR MOST VIVID, ODD, or FUNNY Memories of Conventions and Assemblies of Jehovah's Witnesses?
by Balaamsass inshare with us memories of the bizarre, funny, strange, what you hated, what you miss...we all have them.
(question..why the big to do between terms- convention and assembly .

jemba
A couple of years ago at a circuit assembly in Queensland Australia my husband had to break up a fight between two carpark attendants, one was an MS and one an Elder.
The MS had little man syndrome and always acted like he was better than everyone else ( he was a broke supermarket trolley collector, who also got his sons into the trolley collecting business, how do you support a family on that?) The elder was a smart ass prick and also worked in the same shopping centre as a janitor. lol They had a falling out at work and brought it to the assembly. Maybe it was about who made more money in their pathetic loser jobs.

The bomb scare - Convention
by KW13 inone of the worst things that a lot of people are scared of, is terrorism.
its an invisible enemy, to be honest i've stopped watching the news since it just got me down.. at a convention at the manchester evening news arena (used to be nynex arena) in manchester, there was a briefcase found.
no one claimed it and in the end it was thought to be a possible bomb.

The Wayville Showgrounds Adelaide South Australia had a number of bomb-scares in the early 90's. I used to pray for them. It was always far more exciting for a kid to get to stand around and talk bomb threats than sit in an airless 'shed' listening to the same old dribble.

Health - has anyone else suffered long lasting health effects from years with the Borg?
by Chariklo indoes anyone else feel or know that jehovah's witnesses damaged their health?.
i know many have emerged with depression, and i'm very relieved that i am not one of them.. but, being the age i am, (a large tribe of grandchildren) i was nonetheless pressured to go out door to door in steep countryside often in bad weather, and because i was doing my best to keep up that ended in an injury which has proved to be long lasting.. and that's not counting the stress-induced consequences...i won't cite them all here, but physical.
a few days in hospital and a summer spent on compulsory almost complete rest can all be laid at the watchtower's door.the trauma of actually extricating oneself from the borg is not stopped when one has finally written that letter that disassociates oneself from them.

Depression, Anxiety and Panic Attacks.
Cured by finding TTATT. There is still some left over Depression and Anxiety but nothing at all like the hell I lived for the first 38 years of my life.
I was a depressed little kid with absolutely NO self esteem. Its a cult for sure.

How did you break the news to your parents?
by tootired2care inso one of the things both me and my wife are faced with is breaking the news that we've stopped going to meetings to our parents.
my wifes parents could go either way, they have made several critical remarks of the wt over the years, while my parents are die hard jw's.
i tossed the idea around of sending a letter or doing a phone call or just not saying anything.. we've decided that were just tired of having to hide our true feelings and play pretend.

Chances are that your local cong has already communicated with your parents and they probably already know you are faders/inactive. I know that my parents only needed to visit our cong once to make a contact or two. My parents live 3 states away but still seem to have their finger in the pie.
when we get a visit I know its probably at my parents prompting, thankfully it hasnt been 3 elders yet. lol
When I last visited them I simply told my Mum that I was no longer suffering depression and panic attacks, she was shocked and asked why and I simply told her it was due to not putting pressure on myself to attend meetings which were making me ill as I could never do enough for the organisation and was feeling very low. She simply replied that I needed to remember that armaggedon is just around the corner to which I said "Oh yes of course".
End of discussion, although my siblings and partners have stopped talking to me because I have faded my Mum the Uber-dub somehow seemed to understand.
So perhaps your parents already have an inkling of what to expect?

JW Survivors - a victim advocacy group for survivors of the Church of Jehovah's Witnesses in Australia - submission to Child Abuse Royal Commission
by jwleaks injw survivors is a victim advocacy group for survivors of the church of jehovah's witnesses within australia.. jw survivors is a volunteer not-for-profit community based victim advocacy group for survivors of the church of jehovah's witnesses within australia.
the group was founded by steven unthank.
the seeds of jw survivors were planted by current and former members of the church of jehovah's witnesses, and their families, in response to the victorian inquiry into the handling of child abuse by religious and other organisations, and an extensive submission made in relation to the church of jehovah's witnesses and their administrative controlling corporation, the watchtower bible and tract society of australia.. .
