Inviting People to Meetings
by HereIam60 inthe current memorial invitation campaign got me thinking about the few times over the years that someone i invited to a meeting actually came: .
1) once when i was "new", i invited a friend to a sunday meeting.
neither of us drove, so the brother conducting my study picked us up.

What date is the memorandum*? I think the local JWs have turned up to invite us every year since COVID restrictions were lifted.
* It's a business, so we use business terms 😌

WT JUNE 2025 MODESTLY accept what YOU do not know
by blondie inpp.
14-19 just some quote and a few comments from me, very, very repetitious.
the gb seems to think that the rank and file came up the years 1914, 1925, 1975, generation (70-80 years from 1914=1994), overlapping generations.

Of course it's all bogus sect 🎎 stuff. And this is a discussion board, ostensibly to discuss stuff from that particular sect. So we're discussing it. 🎤

Are There any JW Teaching that you DO Agree With?
by NotFormer in(apologies for the typo in the title.
"teaching" should read "teachings".
i misread vanderhoven7's most recent post as being the above.

FayeDunaway: that's the sort of thing I was expecting.
I'm surprised no-one came into this thread to agree with the stance on the Trinity and other theological points.

1914 should ultimately be jettisoned as a pivotal point. As we get further forward from that date, it just seems sillier to hold on to it. The SDA church wiggled out of the failed 1844 date by framing it as being the beginning of "investigating judgement". The WT will have to try something similar if they want to hold on to that date (1914) and for it to make at least a modicum of sense.

Trump Tariffs started today, Some Countries Caved in early morning.
by liam inusa politicians in charge of the economy for the past 50 years were too stupid to understand how the economy works.
this just proves my theory, that an education on the top tier universities just sucks and means nothing in the real world, unless its in the stem education.
for 50 years usa had zero tariffs on other countries.

"NVIDIA at one point had a triple digits P/E ratio (meaning the stock was trading at more than twice the actual value of the company)"
A triple digit P/E ratio probably means much more than simply twice a company's value. What's the net tangible asset backing per share?

"They got exactly 1 fisherman to ‘study’ but became a problem when it came to earrings and facial hair - it was hilarious for us trying to ‘civilize’ this person into a suit, shaven, without his earrings and going in service, and then the elders got all uptight when he came back from his voyages with his earrings, beard and smelling like oil and fish (it’s not solved by taking a shower). And then the fact he kept using words that were practically curse words in the ‘proper’ language."
Colonial era mission efforts were often criticised for their insistence that the natives wear trousers. That outward appearance was more important than inward change. The WT, for all its assurance that it is superior to the superficiality of the churches, has always been about the surface.
Anony Mous, would they be more lenient towards "such a one", after the changes in dress standards?

Strange, Interesting Day
by HereIam60 ini have worked for over 25 years now in a day habilitation program for persons with physical and mental diabilities.
in recent years this has often involved assisting them in doing community volunteer work, as in our state, persons receiving services are required to have a 'job' of some sort.
as a result, we have worked in catholic and salvation army food pantries, animal shelters, libraries, a nature center, a vietnam war veterans museum and delivered meals on wheels.

HereIam60, glad you got to see a church service and not to be frightened by it. Unfortunately it was a funeral. Never the best time for anyone. But it sounds like you found it a fascinating experience.
