USA Politicians in charge of the Economy for the past 50 years were too stupid to understand how the Economy works. This just proves my theory, that an Education on the Top tier Universities just sucks and means nothing in the real world, unless its in the STEM education.

For 50 years USA had Zero Tariffs on other Countries. Yet Everyone of our Allies had Tariffs on USA. How is that Free Trade?

    For Example;

    Canada had

270% Tariff on all Milk Imports on America

    245% on all Cheese Imports

    300% on all Butter Imports

    238% on Chicken

    163% on Eggs

And USA had Zero import Tariffs on those same products, making it unfair for American Farmers to sell their products to Canada

After all the Screaming and crying for two months Canada Caved in this morning the Tariffs were a go

And No One knew that Israel, USA’s brother, whom America has back up many times, had Tariffs on many goods as high as 200 Percent. And Trump kept it away from the news media that they were also going to get High Tariffs, plus stop all the financial help if they didn’t remove the Tariffs on their Goods. Natanyahu dropped the Tariffs yesterday, one day before the deadline.

And other Countries are following. Trump has said the USA is going to start getting into all the markets, Oil, Chips, AI, Auto manufacturing, Food production, etc. He is shrinking the Government. He is eliminating fraud in Social Security and Medicare.

And Trump sassing the Media, said if people don’t like the fraud we are getting rid of in Social Security and Medicare, we can allow Crooked Joe Biden to create an agency for any person that wants the Democrats to handle their Social Security.

Trumps said there will still be a recession because thousands of workers in federal Agencies have been fired to make Government Smaller, Maybe for two years it will be difficult, but after that, America will be the Economic power again.

The only threat looming on the Horizion is Iran has decided to start making Nuclear Bombs and Russia is threatening anyone that has any ideas of bombing Iran’s nuclear Facilities.

liam...your entire post is a LIE. The 2024 tariff on Butter levied by the Canadian government was 11.38 cents per kilogram which is about 5.2 cents per pound. Don't take my word for it. Here is the tariff schedule from the Canadian government that you can check out for yourself. cbsa-asfc.gc.ca The 300% tariff only kicks in if more butter is imported than was agreed upon by the two countries. In 2024 Canada imported over a Billion dollars in cheese, milk, cream, butter and whey from the United States.

It is quite the disinformation campaign

The first casualty of war is the truth

I don’t think we even export eggs and milk to the US for them to counter tariff

It’s a lot more complicated that your simplistic assessment. Your one paragraph that you read on the cbsa-asfc.gc.ca doesn’t even begin to explain how trade between nations affect the particular industry involved.

The International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA), Washington, D.C., represents the nation’s dairy manufacturing and marketing industry, which supports more than 3.2 million jobs that generate $49 billion in direct wages and $794 billion in overall economic impact. I

DFA’s diverse membership ranges from multinational organizations to single-plant companies, from dairy companies and cooperatives to food retailers and suppliers, all on the cutting edge of innovation and sustainable business practices.

Together, they represent most of the milk, cheese, ice cream, yogurt and cultured products, and dairy ingredients produced and marketed in the United States and sold throughout the world.

WASHINGTON, March 7, 2025—Becky Rasdall Vargas, senior vice president of trade and workforce policy at the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA), released the following statement in response to President Trump’s suggestion that the United States may place a reciprocal tariff on Canadian dairy products:

It is accurate that Canada imposes a tariff of approximately 250% on U.S. exports of certain dairy products into Canada, and even more with Canada’s 25% retaliatory tariffs in place.

However, that tariff would only apply if we were able to reach and exceed the quota on U.S. dairy exports agreed to under the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

Frustratingly, the U.S. has never gotten close to exceeding our USMCA quotas because Canada HAS ERECTED VARIOUS PROTECTIONIST MEASURES that fly in the face of their trade obligations made under USMCA.
U.S. dairy is grateful for the Trump Administration’s efforts to hold Canada accountable on these PROTECTIONIST MEASURES.

At the same time, a prolonged tariff war with our top trading partners will continue to create uncertainly and additional costs for American dairy farmers, processors, and our rural communities.

We urge Canada and the United States to negotiate a resolution to these issues – both Canada’s trade barriers to U.S. dairy exports and the tariffs – as expeditiously as possible.”

I’m not going to do the research for each item that trades between Canada and the USA. But you need to research each industry and product and all the details on how trade between Nations work to get a full picture. It's not as simple as I give you this and you give me that.

If it was all a lie, Canada wouldn’t have folded at the last moment.

Canadians pay too much for dairy because of the protectionism due to lobbying by the dairy industry.

Then they gaslight people into thinking it somehow benefits them or makes them "team canada" for overpaying ...

They rely on people having zero knowledge of trade economics ... which is why the government wants to be in charge of "teaching" your kids. The biggest risk to them is an informed populace.

It's OK not to be informed, but don't come here just blindly repeating the gov propaganda and that reality isn't what we can all see.

I don't think Trump's tariffs are unfair at all. These are reciprocal tarriffs, according to the tariffs that US exporters faced. If and when the nations lower their tarriffs, the US will do the same. In addition, tariffs will encourage factories and assembly plants in the US to produce cheaper products. A win-win for Trump and co.

It’s the death throes of an empire desperately trying to cling on to its power. To quote another US president, “this sucker is going down” and it won’t be pretty and may just succeed in taking the rest of the world down with it.

As Simon said, some countries have protectionist policies for various reasons but almost every actual economist I have listened to has said Trumps tariff chart is mostly fantasy.

I read that the weighted average of tariffs the EU applies to US goods is 1%.

It seems obvious there is something bigger going here. There are theories that Trump wants to divide the world into 3 between US/ Russia/ China - with each administering their own region. That would mean Canada is to the US as Ukraine is to Russia. Trump has described Canada's border as fictional.
