How's it like... living in the South?

here in lovely phoenix, az there's a part of me that's tired of phoenix's one redemable feature (reasonable housing prices) and dismiss the cacti, hot temps, lackluster football teams, golfing culture and predominance of fake people with orange tans and..... ... live in a nice bungalow on a country road, havin' a truck with a gun rack, a (rainbow) confederate flag, cranking up some nice soothing wanda jackson, grow myself a big booshy moustache, wear a denim vest, get myself a bassett hound and sit on a front porch in my rocking chair while whispering to myself "it's good to own land.".

for those of you that live in the deep south... or just the regular south.... how's it treating you?

I am a southern girl, born in Mobile, raised in Mobile, SE Louisiana and Atlanta. I have lived away from the south since early of 2001, except for three months last year. I was in Knoxville. I loved it there. It was beautiful. The people were soo friendly and hip. The job market was much better than in Michigan. The men were interesting and fun.
But at least here the temps are mild and it's pretty. I miss the southern characters. I miss the openess of the people. I miss my job. I miss being able to easily find a fulltime job. I miss the Sonics, Super Wal-marts, Krystals, good food.....I just miss it. There's a spirit there and a culture that is just missing up here jammed in between these Great Lakes.

Culturally.... I'm open to spending my time at Piggly Wiggly and getting me a case of Dr. Pig (their answer to dr. pepper). And I would like to spend some time down there, and listen to some nice southern accents. Although those super walmarts scare me. Too bad about the job market up there. I know it sucks right now. - Preston

Why.......so.......serious?

my partner and i saw "the dark knight" this afternoon and i think it left a lasting impression on us.

i think, in a way, 9-11 has kind of made comic book hero movies... well, obsolete, because few of them have truly shown the effects of a hero's nemesis, if someone that powerful were to operate in today's world.

this is a "batman" movie, but the comparison to the others is so far far away since i haven't since another hero/villain comic book movie to truly tackle the no rules, pro-anarchy, cult-of-personality, of a real movie villain.

My partner and I saw "The Dark Knight" this afternoon and I think it left a lasting impression on us. I think, in a way, 9-11 has kind of made comic book hero movies... well, obsolete, because few of them have truly shown the effects of a hero's nemesis, if someone that powerful were to operate in today's world. This is a "batman" movie, but the comparison to the others is so far far away since I haven't since another hero/villain comic book movie to truly tackle the no rules, pro-anarchy, cult-of-personality, of a real movie villain. Its also an excellent analysis of what people are truly like when they are desperate or.... need to sacrifice themselves, or their reputation, for the good of the many.

It's probably the best pro-American film I've seen in quite some time. There's also some fairly stunning action sequences in it.

Heath Ledger is really that good in this film. You could kind of tell there was a buzz in the air in the theater whenever he shows up on screen. He doesn't have a lot of screen time but his lines are memorable, and he has this difficult job of trying to make people do his bidding in the film when he has proven how bad a of person he is.

Spoilers: For those who have seen it, did anyone see a reference to the use of wiretapping in this film to stop terrorists? Tell me what do you think.

its ok
hot and humid in the summer. Expensive as hell to live in lafayette la. the rest of the south is much cheaper i understand.

Don't mind the humidity... just somewhere that's more green. Why is Lafayette so expensive? Is it the south's answer to Park City?

... and we met (briefly) 2 years ago at a fest in Dallas IP_SEC. Hope you and fam are doing well.

Hats off, hats on.. Hat tipping...head covering

many women even on jwd have complained about the hat or head covering rule (wt) with regard to teaching men etc.. well how about the reverse ...i was once asked to remove my hat at a service arrangement i simply forgot i had it on !.

still isn't all this hat etiquette of human tradition ?.

hats are tipped, (or doffed) slightly lifting the hat off your forehead, when meeting a lady (remove your hat if you stop to talk), or to "say" to anyone, male or female thank you, excuse me, hello, goodbye, youre welcome or how do you do.

Dropped from my Bible Study like a hot potato

i had a bible study with a jehovah's witness for the past year and a half.

i was also attending meetings, but never went out in field service.

during a recent study, i told the conductor that i didn't believe in the 'annointed' & didn't believe the fds had a 'hotline' to jehovah.

Serena Williams and her "god jehovah"

after losing the wimbledon championship to her sister venus, serena williams was being interviewed on the court yesterday, and here is part of what she said: "i thank my god jehovah for being out here".. okay, so according to her words, jehovah blessed her by allowing her to be there to participate in a competitive sports championship match.

Most of what is proposed in the email the United States will eventually concede to doing given there is already a majority of citizens asking for for more domestic production of energy.

Despite the stereotypical Islamic nature of the email.... more than likely it was written by a Glenn Beck fan.

The Strongest Argument Against British Sketch Comedy.

i watched "the meaning of life" not too long ago because i had watched most of the other mp films and came to the scene in the film that... i dunno can't describe.

most people here in united states don't like british sketch comedy because it is a "different" kind of humor but i think this was done with the intent of confusing us.
