Just to say that the part about not being appointed because one has a university degree isn't applicable everywhere.
I was made a MS then an elder many years after having a master's degree. No, I didn't "convert"; I am a "born-in".

in an effort to keep their delusion alive it is only natural for them hate something that lifts the vails of their delusion and lay it barren.
their hate is transfered to the faithful rank and file and manifested in their forbidding it to the young who will surely see the ignorance of their delusion.
narcissistic delusions of divine appointment are resisted at the expense of the young.. they hate higher education to the same extent they hate psychiatry because both tread on their delusion and identify it in clear terms..
Just to say that the part about not being appointed because one has a university degree isn't applicable everywhere.

it was yesterday morning and hubby and i were having a huge sleep in.
it was just after ten, and with me being a bit flu-ey i was quite capable of staying in bed longer.
hubby was feeling it too, and we were pleasantly drifting in and out to the sounds of birds.. then suddenly, cloomp, cloomp, cloomp up the front stairs, then "rap-rap-rap" on the front screen door, that rapid-fire, strong knock of the practiced door-knocker.
Bring the narrative to an end somehow, JO. You seem to be acting out a script that gives you the kicks, but your stories are getting a bit boring.

a trusted source informs me that the "new light" about the faithful slave is to make its first printed appearance in the july 15th watchtower, which should be available for download online three weeks from now, on around april 15th.. i'm led to believe that the references to the new understanding are made in such a manner as to suggest the "new light" isn't that new at all, which suggests to me that little or no effort is being made to explain the doctrinal connotations.
my source and i are hoping to get a key paragraph posted at the earliest opportunity.
watch this space!.
Fact is, this board and its readers are far more interested in "new light" than the average JW. The believing JW does not care one way or the other what "refinements" or changes are made in the teaching. As far as he/she reads it off the pages of the Watch Tower, it is revealed truth. The matter ends there. Very few take any time to assimilate the impact of the changes made or the contradictions between such changes and "old light".
Neither this "change" nor any others to come will cause any fundamental shift in minds bought to the WT cause.

from talking to several fading jws over the years, it really does appear that assembly talk assignments are usually given to those pos who consistently hand over the thickest envelopes to the co at the end of his week-long visits.
if the envelope was too thin (or there was no enevelope at all), chances are that no one in that congo would get an assemby talk assighnment.
also, if the co and his wife were treated well or taken to expensive restaurants during their visit, that apparently increased the po's chances of getting an assembly talk assignment.
These are slanderous allegations. Been there, done that - but never did an envelop change hands.
Caleb, in which world were you a JW?

this is a terrible story, as i believe from other reports that places like this were common in the usa.
(as well as, the uk, ireland, canada, australia and god knows where else).you can only wonder how no-one else in authority knew about this.
i think they did, and the authorities of that time were prepared to do nothing and say nothing.. web reference : http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/a-concentration-camp-for-little-boys-dark-secrets-unearthed-in-kkk-county-8518009.html.
So Jesus was a pro-Jew racist pig. What enlightenment!
I wonder what impact your little life has had and will have on others. That "pig" changed the world.

well, i finally found him on facebook!.
his name is tollie padgett.
he was my congregation overseer (before the "elder" changeover) when i was in prison in seagoville in the late 60's.. i've been searching for him for years and years.
Careful. He may be reading this board - and giggling at your dilemma...

hey i have come to love some of the discussions on here and the information.
i am currently awake and have no plans to fade, in my case i am patient enough to in time become an elder to at least help the younger friends here in my area, in the sense of helping them wake up/if elder have their back..
If you are drowning - and you are - you cannot save another life.

re: proper handling of nested magazines.
dear brothers:.
The truth might be that most "publishers" no longer read the magazines, therefore did not notice the "nesting".
Quite revealing.

seriously i have no idea what is going on or why.
because of my situation at home i have not been watching the news for the past two months or so.
but i keep catching glimpses about some sort of french war in africa.
TheOldHippie,
If only it were that simple! I understand the Afropessimism - but Africa as a continent happens to have grown economically over the past decade- and there are enough facts and data to back that up. Unfortunately, the only news that makes the headlines are the negatives. A lot of positive things do happen, albeit not on the scale that one would wish.
As for China's involvement in Africa, that is a totally different kettle of fish! The wanton destruction of natural resources in either weak or failed states is so terrible it is hard even to start describing it. But then, China is only borrowing a leaf from the West that has despoiled the continent, especially sub-saharan Africa, for centuries.
If, as you stated, Africa is the Tragedy, someone somewhere wrote the scripts of the play.

i try to be a positive person but sometimes i just can't help myself.
the other day, i was looking at tv and this show was on mtv.
the show was called, "when i was 17".
Well, the programme interviewed celebrities, not "ordinary" people.
I grew up a witness and had a normal life, all said.
It might just be that your generalisations apply more to you than to everyone else.
We are not all celebrities.
