i work for a large company.
the site i am on has several thousand people on it.. some of them are stupid.. to be fair, i think it's the group-think effect that creates corporate stupidity where no one has the gumption or the energy to stand up and say "this is a dumb idea".. the latest example of this happened today.
we've been in the current open-plan office for about 2 years.
I don't know whether it's because I'm sick, or because it's 3.30am or because I'm usually on a different planet to everyone else most of the time, but I took this to read as:
doors-and-blind people - as in people who make and sell blinds and doors
It's ok, you can all go back to your regularly scheduled programming now.
Hello and welcome
last night i watched the abc special on the 40th anniversary of king's "i have a dream" speech.
a memory came back to me of the last district convention i attented.
it was in west palm beach (anyone ever been to the leake teepe?
I am currently trying to get over a throat infection, and I don't have the luxury of a long weekend in which to waste time in endless debates like you do.
Your lack of compassion or acknowledgement of my circumstances only enforce my opinion that you are only interested in debating for the sake of debating.
It is 3.30am and I have to go to work tomorrow. I have a raging sore throat, my body aches and I can't get rid of this bronchial cough or runny nose. And you think I really care about debating with you or answering your inane questions?
I've asked you a simple question that you refuse to answer, so what makes you think I am going to answer any of yours?
note to Victorian Sky - my apologies for this hijacking of your thread, I will not discuss anything on this thread with teejay any further.
despite my hangover, i reluctantly went to the meeting yesterday (the gaps are getting bigger each week).
i know that my eyes were a bit out of focus, but this is true, the young elder (age 27ish) gave the talk from his laptop.
his audience contact was crap as his eyes kept scrolling down the screen, mind you it was the worst talk i had heard for years, one of those 30 scriptures in 45 minutes events what we used to call read and run with no explanation.. .
Well, that's the first time I've ever heard of it!!
When the WT CD came out, and bros were starting to use it for preparing talks, there was alot of counsel given about use of material from the CD, not to neglect personal research, etc etc. Bros would print out huge slabs of information and use that, rather than put things in their own words.
So to hear of a laptop being used from the stage is very strange indeed!
The only explanation I can think of for him to be allowed to use it is perhaps the Speaker for the day didn't turn up, so he had to give a talk unrehearsed. Otherwise there's no excuse for using the laptop so extensively nor giving the Public Talk so badly.
in a different discussion another poster made a popularly accepted statement about the religious foundation of the united states.

Nilfun, you're on the same wavelength as me
I see it as being very short-sighted when Western civilisations see world events in purely white man's terms. The land of North America was one of many civilised Native American nations. Quite a history they had. Why ignore it when talking about the "founding" of America? America was already well founded long before the white man set foot on the continent.
obviously athletes linford christie and carl lewis are black.
but how about persons of mixed parentage, are they considered to be black too?.
how about my son's old girl friend whose grandmother was from the phillipines, is she black because her skin had a slight (and very beautiful) brownish glow that came from her ancestor?.
I find that when people call themselves "black" because they have one tiny drop of black blood, and are 98% white, that's it's insulting to their white forebears. Not all white people were slave owners. Not all white people agreed with slavery either. So why not acknowledge the majority of their heritage?
I know in America you say that it's the governments that force the issue, but not necessarily. It's your choice to state what race you put down on forms, isn't it?
Here in Australia you can claim Aboriginality if you have at least one great-grandparent who is Aboriginal. But you don't have to claim to be one. You can call yourself a white person if that's how you see yourself to be. I have a friend who falls into this category. His Italian background adds to his swarthiness, yet he doesn't see himself as an Aboriginal nor does he claim to be. If he did claim to be one, he could get extra hand-outs for the rest of his life. But why claim something simply to receive hand-outs? He has more Italian blood than anything, and after Australian, he calls himself an Italian.
So the "one-drop rule" doesn't apply in all the world.

They're not falsehoods TJ, they're observations I've made from your comments and the way in which you've commented in the black/white threads. If you don't like it, then too bad. I'm not interested in C&P games.

Yes, from the start the founders of this country were, for the most part, Christian.
So the Native Americans were instantly converted, eh?
Weren't the Native Americans there before the white man?

Nope, sorry, TJ, I'm not interested in playing games with you. I'm not interested in a debate with you, I asked you a simple question and you refuse to answer it without trying to get me to play your little he-said-she-said games.
Again, I will ask you, what is the point you have been trying to make in these threads about blacks and whites?
If you're not interested in answering my question, I can live with that. Quite frankly, it's not going to affect my life one iota because I am currently trying to get over a throat infection, and I don't have the luxury of a long weekend in which to waste time in endless debates like you do.
Peace to you my bro.
