JW urban legends
by kurtbethel ini scraped these off of a jw message group, and they are too over the top to not pass along.
it is interesting to see that jws pass along these yarns just as their worldly friends do.
most of them have that vague "friend of a friend" quality that urban legends are well know for having.

Facebook and employment interviews
by DaCheech inlistening to this in the news got me infuriated!.
there is a growing trend that employment interviewers are asking for facebook profile with login password.. they are looking into everything you post.. there is no law in the books to prevent this!.
even though i'm self employed, i think this goes beyond what's required of hirees!.

Personally if an employer asked me that, I'd ask for their bank login so I can see if they have enough to pay me.

anyone with that Gestapo mentality is definitely NOT someone i would like to work for anyway
Unfortunately for most JWs who leave, they have NO support network, NO/LITTLE education (if they followed WT instructions), and work experience in lower end jobs (window cleaning ... etc). In addition they've been in a cult that thrives on control. So a lot of ex-JWs are at the mercy of "Gestapo" employers till they get their life sorted out.

"There should be SOMETHING in the privacy laws to protect people form this kind of shameless intrusion"
How about not putting personal information online in the first place. Or at the very least don't use your legal name, and don't post pictures. That works for me. Never had an issue with privacy coming back to bite me.

Rewriting J. Witness mistakes.
by edmond dantes inif the governing body could turn back time and do a rewrite or change their past teachings what would be their top priority ?.
would they have to eliminate everything and start again?.
any one want to tell them what to shred before forensics arrive?.

The way they deal with older (less true) articles is control. The whole WT org is based on control (opposite to Jesus' example, love).
Control members by telling them not to talk to ex-members
Control members' time by constantly getting them to study new articles
Control members' time by constant meetings, field service ...
Control old articles by not publishing them (on the CD-ROM ... etc)
Label anyone who views old artices as an Apostate
Members have no time or capactiy for critical thinking, and therefore go along with whatever they're told.

A Popular Question Raised by people who were never JW.
by Momma-Tossed-Me ini talk to a lot of people about the watchtower because it comes up in conversation all of the time.. money eventually becomes a topic as it is a very wealthy corporation.. so the question is always raised and it is a good one, "who controls it?".
people want to know "who has the power of the purse strings?
" and quite frankly so do i.. there is someone behind the scenes who knows so much that the wtbts could never fire him or her.

It could be the people going to the Hedge Fund traing course? Hedge funds are practically gambling, and therefore against WT policy.

The ironic thing about "Independent Thinking" is that Charles Taze Russell was an "Independent Thinker". How else would he have come up with all those crazy theories, and false prophecy?

Jehovahs Witnesses and Entitlement
by hoser ini've noticed an attitude among the friends that they feel that they are owed something by society.
example: at the last meeting one of the elders gave a talk about how "the system" is getting harder and harder to make a living.. .
i know its a recession out there, but to blame satan the devil for your economic woes is kinda harsh don't you think.

Yes I remember that rhetoric. And they all sit there nodding their heads about how difficult things are (in a rich western nation). Then, the very next talk will be about spending too much time on enjoyment/recreational activities.
Bottom line is, you're not spending enough time witnessing because 1) you have it too hard in life, or 2) you have it too easy in life.

I suspect they'd print it all in disappearing ink, that lasts about five years.
