You've rented a billboard in front of a KH. What would you put on it?
by whyizit inif you could rent a bill board where you knew jehovah's witnesses would see it, what would you put on it to try to effectively reach them?
and don't forget that lots of other people would see it to.
maybe the regular joe would be able to develope some good questions from your ad too.

Why do witnesses think they have the truth?
by JH in.
what would be the main reasons why the witnesses think that they alone have the truth?
.

simple...they're told they do...it's drilled into their heads from both a positive and negative perspective...

Very self righteous pioneer elder (50ish) who was also the service overseer got caught in a very "compromising position" with a newly baptized woman (20 something) in a state park parking area...they were out in "service"...guess they needed some "relief"...interesting thing about it though is that they were "discovered" by his son in law and daughter...who just happened to go to this very park on this day (???) to do some light hiking...saw his FIL's car and ventured over ...the rest is history...9 mos later...a new future publisher was born to the world...he was bounced as an elder and df'd...she only given public reproof (must've been more repentant)
This event filled the gossip and rumor mill for well over a year...plus it happenned right near WT Farms "bethel"

Field service here in many New England US congs is very light...no one seen in my neighborhood (metropolitan Boston) in over 2 years. (or anywhere else for that matter)The younger ones don't have any where near the zeal a number of the older ones had. Many teens are leading double lives and skirt field service like the plague. Ver few are "wholesouled" (tm). Most seem to be going thru the motions and just trying to keep up a facade. (and keep the elders off their back or look to get cong "priveleges" bestowed.). WT has a huge problem on its hands I think...remotivating the masses does not seem possible or very likely...sometimes there's a "campaign" to distribute tracts, etc to all households in the area...that gets some action...then the activity clearly deminishes...proandcon

Why did the JW's Shun my mother at her funeral?
by DaveNwisconsin inmy mom had died on december 9, 2005. she had been loyal to that religion for 35 years.
she had been in a nursing home for the last two years.
some of the old ladies would come and mom would still write a letter to a "not at home" once and awhile.

Dave...sorry to hear of the loss of your mom...re the JW's you work with...I would definitely ask them why they didn't take the time to show at her funeral...JW's are told to and believe they profess to show love to all...where's the love here?
ask them specifically why they couldn't show any love to even attend her funeral. You might just embarass one to rethink his JW position and begin to fade himself. Many JW rank and file have a "herd mentality"...rarely will any one JW think for himself and do what truly is the right, caring and loving thing to do...very, very sad.

THINGS YOU WON'T HEAR A BETHELITE SAY
by What-A-Coincidence in(sorry if this was already posted).
no, no, let me pick up the check, mom.. i think there should be more acronyms used at bethel.. i will have to remember to donate for those 42 yearbooks i sent out to my friends.. i am going to sit in the second row at the family study so my friends can see me on tv!.
i really enjoyed all the juggling in that last family night.. that watchman duty sure allows me to learn my way around bethel.. what's gleaning?.

They Tell The Elders One Thing And The Others Something Else!
by minimus inthe organization is so deceitful that they will tell the watchtower readers that the elders should deal mercifully with wrongdoers but in private letters or correspondence thru the circuit overseers, they will tell the elders not to allow "leaven" within their midst.
they say it's better to disfellowship and see whether someone's truly repentant afterwards rather than taking a chance to contaminate the congregation.......another example of their being two-faced is that they will tell the brotherhood not to buy homes, cars, vacations, etc.
unnecessarily as it could signal materialism, yet the watchtower society spends more money on real estate than we could ever possibly imagine but it's ok for them..........can you think of other things that show that the organization is hypocritical??

"Sacred Service"...rank and file think it means going in field service...wrong...WTS has its own "flexible" definition which they confidentially apply to just about anything or anyone if they want to and if your "in"...eg sacred service for some can include: temping at bethel (with a special skill eg nurse or engineer); int'l construction work; "quick build KH construction, etc...only a very selective few are "allowed " to consider their activity here as "sacred service"...the key then is they can "count the time" as if they were in FS...most in these activities were not "qualified or selected to get there efforts deemed as "sacred service"...others were (and were told to keep real quiet about it)...I lived near the Farm and saw a number of instances of this application toward a favored few...real bias...WT (and the elders) says ministry is the most important activity -- unless they need you to do some other task for them first...then their version of "sacred service" supersedes what they tell everyone else...

What would you want Madzay to make for ex-JWs?
by AuldSoul ini was just thinking about all the crap madzay makes for jws, and i think it would be very good to have some of those scripture greeting cards they have for writing to jws.
just with different scriptures than they use now.. what do you think?
could we get some madzay stuff that would help wake up jws?

good question ...how about a deck of cards with thought provoking questions ...such as..
- has the WTS ever been a member of the UN?
- would Jesus understand the WTS blood policy?
- where in the bible does it say you you report any time?
- what is the main attributes of a cult?
- etc, etc...may put questions in their heads ...questions could lead to real answers later...

Elders' School
by Cellist ini was reading sir82's thread on the recent elders' school and he mentioned them learning how to use the index in the new od book.
does anyone remember the elders' school in 1986 or 87 (i think) where the whole two days was spent learning how to use the new "watchtower publications index 1930 - 1985".
at that time i had the same reaction as sir82 just had .... duh!

I attended the elder's training school in 1986 or 1987. It was held at the Monroe NY assembly hall...Many bethelites and WT Farm "heavies" were in attendance. Most of the congregations in the WTF (LOL) area had many elders...about 1600 in attendance...I remember Don Adams from Brooklyn making the point ad nauseum that we all had an obligation to give the householders the opportunity to contribute for the literature so Jah could truly see his heart condition.(by supporting the F&D slave)..a real stretch...- maybe you catch a break at the big A if you've slipped a $20 to a bookseller?? he had a scripture to back him up though- forget what it was though...not important...most of it went way over people's heads...made little sense at all...I was a new elder then...always got a kick out of the parts about loose conduct etc...these old coots really got off on it for sure...it was the only highlight...sure would've been better with live demos...
