Is this a case of "if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all"?

Oh those Thor-worshippers and their hammers . . . .
by cedars inas i've said many times on this forum, the fictional character of thor is a dangerous and violent person who clearly does not know how to handle a hammer safely or responsibly.. to set the record straight, here is an instructional video on how to use a hammer safely.. i feel it's important to spread this information in order to raise awareness that hammers are intended as tools for making things, and not as weapons with which to bludgeon your foes to death.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5ogimmz8uw.

Blondie-Thanks for those two references using the term "step aside". That must be only the second time have ever heard it quoted or referenced in print.
I think that even though that is the term that is used in print, I personally have never heard an individual use it in refering to them ceasing to be or having a certain position. They always said that they were "stepping down". It is more than likely done on a subconscience level, a freudian slip perhaps. Power tends to corrupt and it is seldom not abused. Appointments are always viewed as an elevated status.

by happy-n-alive inhi, um..i've been looking at this site for a while and decided to join.
i'm 20 and have been studying since i was 14 (not a publisher) but i honestly didnt really look into the witnesses or analyze what they said.
all i wanted was to learn more of the bible lol, but recent events have made me notice how pushy they can be.

The phrasing that is used when an elder or ms "steps down" from his position really shows how the position is actually viewed, it is not one of serving others but one of a higher position. If it was one of service to others wouldn't you have to "step up"?
I have even heard ones say that they were "stepping down" from pioneering. What? Simply viewed as a position of status. Others has mentioned that because of some reason or another that they were not "approved" to be a regular or auxilliary pioneer, so it limited what they could do. If they were really concerned about the "preaching work" wouldn't they just get their butt out their and put in the same amount of hours? Oh no! You have to have the Title to do that.

Awkward, but kinda funny encounter with JWs today
by hemp lover ini live in a majority-minority neighborhood, so i get the double witness whammy of my street being worked by both spanish- and english-speaking congregations.
jws come to my door about four times a year, but i stopped answering years ago.
what's interesting is that about two years ago, they stopped knocking on my door or ringing the doorbell.

I think that most JW's don't want to be out and second do not really want to talk to anyone.
I know in my case that being naturally introverted, I tend to get really nervous when a similar situation arises. It is not that I doubt the facts about what I know to be the real truths about the Borg, or even that I can present them in a clear and understandable manner. It is the feeling or urgency that I may have only this one chance to say the right thing that will get them to think for a change.
I know that this can may sound a little weird and could even bring back some bad memories for some, but you really have to practice how and what specifically you are going to say that might jar them out of their stupor.
One thing that is crucial is to not put them in the shut-down mode. That is why to ones that do not know me personally, I never identify myself as having been a JW. I will tell them that I know several or have a few friends that are witnesses, and have discussed the bible with them on occasion. All true. Then I direct the conversation where I want it to go. Ask them a question and let them talk. As long as I direct the topic, I can be prepared on what to say.
And we know more about the history, dogma, flip-flops, dishonesty and outright lies than 99.9% of those that we encounter.

As mentioned earlier, very few things are "black and white" and have overly simplistic answers or solutions.
However hard you try to avoid it happening, you will have regrets about what you could have done different, changed, or a course of action.
But the one thing you will never regret is being too kind to someone. Being and showing kindness is something that you can't do enough of and always comes back more than you gave. Karma?

How many JW pedofiles do you personally know?
by oldlightnewshite ini was just thinking that out of the 200 jws that i actually know, at least 4 of them to my knowledge are pedophiles.
i know for a fact, through personal confidences.
that means, as far as my circle of jovo friends/acquaintances goes, 2% of them are kiddy fiddlers.. without mentioning names or details, how many do you know of for a certainty to be pedos, and what percentage does it work out at, considering all your circle of jovo friends?.

Heard of a distant relative, non JW who was one.
3 JW's who have known personally. First was an elder who was removed. Congregation not informed. Second one molested his daughter, non JW wife told police, he served time and is out. Married again to sister with young teenage daughter, she was not informed before they were married. Third one impregnated his developmentally challenged stepdaughter. No 2 witnesses, congregation not informed. Sister did divorce him, not sure if she got police involved because she never set foot in a hall again. Later she married a Mormon. She was a wonderful lady who had struggled hard in raising and caring for her two children, a shame she went from one cult to another.

Governing body member engaged... Again!
by OneDayillBeFree injust found out that the australian governong body member known as geoffrey jackson got engaged to a sister about two weeks ago.
it really shocked me at first but then i remembered how other members of the gb have remarried in the past like daniel sidlik.
what made me say "woah" was hearing that the holy bride to be is really young!

I guess you are asking what "made up, pulled out of our ass, WT rule" has he broken. Depending on which elder body and their intent, the infractions could be legion. And no doubt some would also also be "brazen".
As for what real violation he would be culpable of, I say more power to him. It's his business. I hope that his future bride is young, nubile and hot. Might shock the sheep into having a thought for a change.
As to the "made up" rules, I have seen elders removed for marrying quickly after the death of a spouse, and also marrying a much younger wife. Scandalous and shocking the "norms of the community" and setting the toungues to wagging in the hall. Wasn't demonstating the quality of being "serious". Lost the respect of the congregation. Perhaps to the point of "stumbling" someone maybe even a new one in the faith.
The point is that if this nonsense is enforced on the rank and file, it is a double standard not to enforce it on the mucky mucks. It's blatant hypocrisy.
Further, in view of the down-sizing and sending home thousands as being no londer needed, why should an exception be made for his future wife to be allowed in. As alluded to earlier in these posts, that is very unlikely. I'm not sure of the current count of single brothers that are there now, but I bet that there are at least a thousand that if they requested to have a wife join them it would be refused or they would have to leave to marry. Same standard should apply! In fact he should set the right example and leave and then marry. Would show humility.
In view of the past and current rules laid down on the rank and file, the governing body do not get "a pass" on anything that shows up their hypocrisy.

You can call them rules, laws, principles, standards of conduct, seting the right example, it matters not because the end effect of all of these are imposed on the rank and file by him and the other six of the GB. How the community where you live , their standards and how the worldy peolple living their view your conduct it has been brought out can be a determining factor in an elders serving or not. I think he should be held to the same legalistic standards that he enforces. Of course, none of the company men are going to call his hand.
