You can't kill your ego. Your ego is important for survival. Some people are hyper-vigilant and have problems with their ego dominating their entire organism. You need to understand the function of your ego so that it can be managed.

Killing One's Ego...
by FMZ inmany of the ancient mystics and their belief systems supported the idea that to truly live life, and draw close to god, each one of us has to remove his "ego".
even jesus hinted at it.. i think today, "ego" is very often taken as meaning pride.
this is but one facet of one's ego.

What kind of atheist are you?
by Narkissos inchief rabbi leon ashkenazi said: "the difference between an atheist christian and an atheist jew is that an atheist christian does not believe that god exists, while an atheist jew believes that god does not exist.".
i'm not so sure about the jewish-christian borderline, but i love the nuance.. so which sentence suits you better?.
"i don't believe that god exists.".

Why does God have to be a Person???
by frankiespeakin inthink of this,,why does god have to be a person?
is it not because we impose our own manlike image of him?
why do we even think god has emotions like ours??

God has to be a person for the same reason we give names to our cars and boats. Our brains grew large from interaction with other humans. Our brains are adapted to social functions. That's what we do best. So anything we become "intimate" with suddenly is perceived as a person.
That's why narrative is more persuasive than logic.

How does God communicate with us?
by JH inin the past, god spoke to humans through angels, prophets, and jesus.
today, there are no prophets, angels don't show up anymore, and jesus isn't there to speak to us.. we can talk to god through prayer, but how does god talk to us?.
so, other than the bible which is pretty outdated, how can god communicate with humans?
-

There is no evidence that God is talking in an unambiguous manner to humans. Which is why I don't believe he exists.
It should be pretty easy to tell humans to fill a stadium with down syndrome kids and then cure them. That would be effective communication for an entity you would call "GOD". Short of something like that I don't believe there is such an entity.
As far as the "small voice" in the head - you better increase your medication. Those intuitive flashes you call "god-talk" lead to crazy religions. It makes some people believe they are special/annointed.
If god could make beings with ears and vocal chords - he ought to be able to do a little advertising.

We really have some quality people on this forum!
by mjarka911 ini just wanted to say what a nice time i had at our chicago apostafest last week.
although i had to call it a night after dinner to tuck my little guy in and get to the firehouse, i'm lucky to have met such nice people.
the idea of those who left the org standing in darkness and gnashing their teeth is such a crock of shit.

It was an interesting gathering for me too. I got to see first hand the hurt some are experiencing.

The Watchtower said disco sucks long before this was generally accepted.
Unfortunately Disco has now resurged in popularity as goofy wedding reception music and draws Elders and Ministerial Servants, Pioneers onto the dance floor.

congregational cliques
by chuckyy init was my experience during my 13 yrs as a jw that congregations usually had a social clique.
in other words, there would be a group of people in a congregation that would only associate (and sometimes only go out on field service too) with people within that social clique.
if you were in the clique, fine.

I love cliques. It's nice to have all your enemies in a group.

Jw view of resurrection: will it be you who is resurrected???
by chuckyy ini have always had a problem even when a jw with the wtbs view on the bodily resurrection.
if your body is destroyed following death, and there is no soul, what then is being resurrected???.
?.....its a new body and only a recording of your thoughts that was in gods memory that is put into this new body......how can it truly be the same person???

The concept of a "soul" separate from the body is pure ignorance of science. Damage to the proper spot in your brain will make your lose your sense of continuity and identity. (Amnesia) The "soul" was primitive man's best attempt at explaining what makes living organisms move. We now know that there is no-one at the controls. There is no "little-man" pushing buttons or operating a switch board. God is an attempt to imagine someone at the universal control console. There is no one out there at the controls. There is no one in "here" that is controling you or me.
But resurrection of the body if accompanied by some memory input would be adequate to get you going. Our memories are really not all that important. Our brains are organs for dealing with changing situations. Think about how much you've forgotten already. Where is that little person that sat in the story circle in kindergarten. You can only remember a few paradigmatic incidences from your life.
In this age of information theory we realize our "personal" story could be transferred to a few chips. Basically the promise is that if you are real good the information will be kept in storage. Personally, if I die I wish my clone a happy life. If you subscribe to the stuff coming out of quantum theory there are probably an infinite number of "you" in parallel worlds - each living a somewhat different life because of the random factors "they" encounter. In other words there is no shortage of whatever "you" are.
Everlasting life is an "ego"- tistical concept. Of course we like it because it is the "ego" that defends existence. However, the reality sets in as you see that your body rots with greater acceleration after you have served your reproductive duties. Immortality is a great dream and society through religion uses it to keep us all in line.

The problem with JW's is that Fred Franz was a little bit too jewish. He succeeded in making JW's more jewish than the most orthodox jews. JW's treat the world like Goys.

The Bible Encourages Drinking/Getting Smashed out of your mind
by proplog2 inproverbs 31:6 "give intoxicating liquor, you people, to the one about to perish and wine to those who are bitter of soul.
let one drink and forget one's poverty and let one remember one's own trouble no more.".
does anyone here know how to integrate this idea with the other scriptures on alcohol?.
