Biblical precedence for opposing viewpoints within the Congregation
by Momma-Tossed-Me inoften the wtbts uses the gathering of older men in jerusalem as support for the organizational structure used today.
this essay will examine the validity of that claim by way of logic and reason.. .
logically an argument could be formulated that this meeting was not a regularly scheduled or organized group that held weekly or monthly meetings to discuss things related to the early christian congregation but that is a thesis to be explored on another day.. .

Universal Sovereignty Doctrine, re-examined.
by Knowsnothing inhey all.
what do you guys think about the issue of universal sovereignty?
that was one of the doctrines i thought i would never doubt in, but looking into it more, there are a lot of holes in it.

Vanyel, in your opinion, has God allowed humans to prove their worth as rulers?
Hmmm... Let's see.... Take the Roman Empire for example. Started off as a Republic, became and Empire and ended in civil war and invasions from the barbarians. You say that God has allowed humans to prove their worth as rulers? In this modern age, do you think that humans have proved to be worthy rulers? Consider Rwanda. Frankly speaking, history of humankind has been just a repeat of the same old screwups. What do you think??

In one of the my previous posts, I've mentioned something related to this Universal Sovereignty. I was reading one of the books by Gregory Boyd, "God at War". It mentions that modern Christian theology still subscribes heavily on the Augustinian conception of God's omnipotency, wherein everything good or evil in totally under God's control. If this is true then:
1. There is no such thing as free will.
2. God is ultimately responsible for evil in the world.
3. Then there is no need for a Saviour to come as it will be nothing else but a staged event.
In his book, Gregory wants us to consider another viewpoint, where God is all-powerful but restricted by His own Rules by His own choosing, that He can only work through agents that follow Him.

How many sects of the Watchtower are recent? Who are they?
by Dogpatch ini want to write a short article on the new wt sects (not considered harmful cults) of the watchtower that have been developing in the watchtower world, if for nothing more than to scare the watchtower into the full-blown realization that their greatest fears have now begun to develop into early fruition.. many witnesses have had enough, and are demonstrating it by "shaking the dust off their feet" and forming their own associations, registered or not, with the noble motives of helping lost witnesses and ex-witnesses.
this information will not be used to discredit them, rather to advertise them.
(in the article i will leave the word "sects" out because many consider it an evil term... but hey, the watchtower is a sect of judaism/christianity itself and also a high-control cult.

'Dinah Gets Into Trouble' - Does Story 20 Mean Rape = Fornication?
by sd-7 ini was listening, albeit unwittingly, to a 'my book of bible stories' tape and this statement caught me by surprise.
it's found in story 20:.
"one day when dinah came to visit, shechem took dinah and forced her to lie down with him.

Again, our so-called "modern" thinking and mores affects our interpretation of the above narrative (WTBTS interpretation trumps all). For another look at Dinah's story, http://jwa.org/encyclopedia/article/dinah-bible. What if the "rape" of Dinah is not really rape? Remember the ancient "barbaric " custom of raiding other villages to get wives? Was that wrong in the context of that culture and time?

Funny how we judge OT times with our modern conception of ethics and beliefs. It's like comparing apples to oranges, not the same thing. We pride ourselves be "civilized", but underneath the veneer of sophistry and semantics, we are no different from the people in ancient times.
