what specifically made you stop believing in god and the bible?
was it a steady road of doubts or it was reading one book or one major event that made you realize the bible was not what it's claimed to be?.

this was the last sentence my dad wrote to gb in his letter explaining why he is disassociating from jws.
it seems gb did not send copy of the letter to the body of elders!
sometime later two elders visited him to encourage him to rethink his decision.
Pinku,
While he was a Disassociated one, once he boarded a public transport and sat next to a JW who happened to be a deaf and dumb in his former congregation.
Referring to someone as "deaf and dumb" is considered offensive. Even referring to someone as "deaf-mute" can sometimes be considered derogatory. I believe that the prefered term today is simply "deaf".

it is both interesting and sad to note that the last passenger pigeon died on september 1, 1914.. the species went from being one of the most abundant birds in the world during the 19th century to extinction early in the 20th century.
.... on september 1, 1914, martha, the last known passenger pigeon, died in the cincinnati zoo.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/passenger_pigeon.
even if we are able to clone dozens or even hundreds, it is unlikely that we will be able to bring them back.. some have suggested cloning the passenger pigeon in the future.
Maybe the end of the Watchtower will come in a similar manner, I can imagine the Wikipedia entry on the extinction of the Jehovah's Witness:
Once one of the fastest growing religions, the Jehovah's Witnesses numbers quickly began to shrink in the early 21st century. Many factors have been attributed to their downfall, but the advent of the Internet and availability of accurate information is the most likely cause of their demise.

designs,
Sounds like you enjoyed that quite a lot.
My brothers and I had homing pigeons for a short while. We never got to enjoy them like you did. Somehow the neighbors dog/cat or something got into the cage and that was the end of that.

Some have suggested cloning the passenger pigeon in the future. [104] [105] De-extinction efforts are now underway to revive the species by extracting DNA fragments from preserved specimens, and later, using band-tailed pigeons as surrogate parents. [106] A significant challenge to an effective de-extinction effort is the fact that the passenger pigeon was a very social bird known to form flocks of millions. When their numbers dwindled to a few thousand, the birds stopped breeding; it is likely that more than a few thousand birds would have to be created in order for a de-extinction effort to be successful.
So, I wonder how ol' Noah was able to prevent the extinction of the Passenger Pigeon when he only had a pair (or possibly seven) of them.
The true miracle of the flood, was not the survival of Noah and his zoo, but the re-population of all the species on the earth that was ruined by an insane deity.

i would be interested to know if the announcement came of an immenent nuclear war would you start praying or get drunk etc etc..
Yes, it is possible that I may resort to prayer when faced with death. When you're desperate, all logic goes out the window.
If I was taught as a young child that God wanted me to standed on my head and kick my feet, then I would probably give that a try when faced with certain death. Just because someone is an Atheist (as I am) doesn't mean that they won't slip back into old habits in times of stress. The aurgment that there are no Atheist in foxholes is meaningless.

from a new wt article (may, i think) about predicting the future.
and i quote:.
religious leaders sometimes predict tragic worldwide events to warn mankind and gather followers.
Ok, ha, ha...
Good one Vanderhoven7, I should have known. Even though it is implied, they are not stupid enough to write something like that.
You had me going for a few minutes though.

Does it really say this? (see below)
THE FAITHFUL AND WISE SERVANT What does the record show? Unlike these other charlatans, the record shows proof, to anyone with an open mind, that the organization of Jehovah's Christian Witnesses has been uniquely selected by Jehovah God and mandated to fortell events with utmost precision. Yes the F&DS has been predicting events accurately for over 130 years based on angelic guidance and holy spirit direction. All this speaks to the undeniable fact, that to us alone, the Bible is an open book.
Are they using sarcasm now? I really can't believe that they would write something like that.

researchers from harvard and stanford universities published three studies today showing that substances in the blood of young mice rejuvenate the muscles and brains of older ones.
a previous harvard study suggests the same happens to their hearts.
http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/05/04/molecule-young-mice-science/8483767/ .
Fasinating discovery. I can just hear JWs claiming that the bible was right about life being in the blood.
I suspect that this will be hushed up by the pharmaceutical companies, unless they can find a way to profit from it.
