think i'm becoming an atheist
by rather be in hades ini was just thinking about how often i prayed when i was going downhill.. now i subscribed wholeheartedly to the 'don't pray for bullshit requests' concept, so at first i rarely prayed.. starting around middle school, 9/10 i prayed for friends.
didn't really pray to stop the teasing, my fists did some of that and besides...racism isn't/wasn't jehovah's fault anyway and i can't pray for that to end when he allowed the witnesses to suffer in ww2.. through high school, same issue and then when i started pioneering and hanging out with some of the other witnesses, those prayers prayers for friends intensified cuz they were asses.. but they were dominated by the prayers to love god starting around 15. i didn't want to read the magazines, despite how much i love reading.
didn't want to stdy the lessons, didn't want to plan my presentations, though i did enjoy giving the talks and crafting them.

My beginning to question watchtower doctrin came as a result of my studies of the bible from a scientific viewpoint. Basically the entirety of Genesis came up wanting, along with a large amount of scriptures in the Bible. But the things that stuck with me the most, were issues of morality. I never knew whether to laugh, cry or barf when I would read 1 Sam 18 espesially vs. 23-29. How a man like David could be supported by a God who is love, just doesn't make sense. But there are a wide array of scriptures that are crazy in different ways.
Also, welcome!

Shunning is easy
by Paralipomenon inupon reflection over the past 5 years of being out, i've had a lot of time to consider my time as a witness as well as come to terms with my parents shunning us.. that was the biggest shock for me.
contrary to most experiences i've read, my childhood, while focused on witness matters was still pretty happy.
our family always seemed to fall on "family first, religion second".

I agree it takes less action than most of the other requirements posed by the Watchtower, but it can still be difficult physically when brought in close proximity. If a JW mother, for example, sees her ex-jw daughter at a mall, she would have to walk away from the sittuation, not the other way around. However, it fails in comparison to the psychological difficulties. If the poster IS talking about it in a physical sense as opposed to a psychological one, then yes i agree. Shunning is much easier than the other requirements which involve action. Thanks Jeffro

You really think its easy for parents, grandparents, siblings, and close friends to shun a loved one? Sorry but I have to disagree. To go against such a strong desire, need even, to show unconditional love to a daughter, son, grand-daughter, grand-son, sister, or brother, is certainly a painfully difficult thing. Its unnatural to shun a loved one. I say that it's, most likely, hell for the family members engaging in the shunning. The only thing that allows them to do this and override their strong desire for closeness to relatives, is the thought that is serving a better purpose, for all parties involved.

Hello tony1212, you've come to the right place to meet people who have had many different perspectives on the Jehovah's Witness religion and their leading organization, the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. If you want to know details and hard facts of the religion with a very real and honest viewpoint, I highly recommend exploring the site jwfacts.com. If you simply just want opinions, create another thread on this site and start asking questions. And possibly someone in your area will want to meetup to talk. Welcome and enjoy.

Take it slow!!! You're lucky she's still listening to you and reasoning logically. But her learned firewall is on high alert. It only takes one piece of disclosing information, for it to shut the gates and turn of her rational powers. I walked the same line with my parents, unfortunately now I'm shunned and have reason to believe they hate me. I took it VERY slow with them, but it was like one day, I just gave them one thought that broke the camels back, and they stopped talking to me even before being DAed. I hope it goes well, and I have a feeling that the topic on racism might be the ticket for her. Just speculation but I think it should be your next topic.
Keep us updated please! The more techniques we learn to help de-program people, and the more often we use them to see what works, the more people we can help to wake up. Hope it goes well!

update on my boy
by Aussie Oz inmy son came to visit today, he and i are getting a lot closer since he left his jw home and thanks largely to his mother and step father alienating him big time.
he needs one of his parents to help him out at times and he can't turn to his mother.
thats sad but its her loss, and his i guess.. anyway, he recently got himself a girlfriend, a worldly girl at that.

For those still in, what makes you feel like a witness and what doesn't?
by Hermano ini've noticed when i exercise regularly i feel thin, regardless of my weight.
this led me to think about how behavior, thoughts and feelings are tied together.
so for those of you still in what activities or thoughts make you feel like a witness?

Conan, you deserve better. I hope you can break free with some of your dignity left. I did after nearly 5 years, and things are slowly getting better. Best of luck.
