  What are your turn offs in a guy or girl?

  Like FHN, I am at an age of where I know what I want and what I do not. I find that men say they want independent and intelligent women but when actually presented with one, they quickly realize they prefer the more passive woman.

  My turn offs would have to be (in no particular order):

  Poor grammar

  Bad teeth

  Poor manners

  Shallow/self absorbed

  Uncultured

  Lazy

  Disrespectful

  Smoking

  No sense of humor

  I don't throw lack of chemistry in there because that is so subjective. I have found myself attracted to someone unexpectedly while repulsed by another who, under strictly objective criteria, would normally be attractive.

  It kind of gives credence to the idea that "apostates" are a bit off. I remember seeing the ones picketing the conventions...excuse me, regional assemblies. Wait. Is that the most current term? I'm losing track...but I digress. Seeing the picketers and the occasional person stand up and be disruptive only made me fear them more. I always asked myself why other religions don't have ex followers making scenes. It "evidently" means "we" have the "truth". To me it is counterproductive and entrenches the cult mindset even more so. Witnesses are programmed to fear. Subtlety works so much better. Subtlety or a heinous experience that traumatizes.

  Any Suggestions on what to say if elders ask why you stopped going in FS?

  i was curious what might be some good things to say if i am questioned by the elduurs about my decline in fs.

  anything too honest may get me a jc (although that would be for the best in the end..) the co visit is this week so they may be getting more agressive than usual.

  If your goal is to be free physically as well as the mentally, lying on your fs report will only prolong it. I recommend avoiding submitting your time for whatever reason you are comfortable with i.e. your wife and unborn child's health, stress, lack of energy...whichever is a true reason. Stick with it and don't let it go. I find that stooping to their level and lying outright ("theocratic warfare") becomes exhausting. I admit that I just don't speak of anything religiously speaking with my die hard jw parents but I won't lie. the elders called me for about 4 months for time I never had and I haven't heard from them since and that was almost 2.5 years ago. I went from pioneer to inactive in 6 months. Maybe I was lucky or maybe they are just scared of me ;)

  First year without Memorial

  my first year after more than 20 years.... it seems strange.

  happy fellings but at the same times feeling some loniness.. is your first one as well?.

  Not my first missed. My first "missed" one involved going but staying in the lobby with my friend's disabled child and avoiding 90% of it. Last year I just didn't go. I only missed the getting dressed up part. This year I haven't actually thought about it much since it has no significance to me. The bible clearly states that all Christians should partake and while I have come to more agnostic leanings, I think that for a so-called Christian religion they have it all wrong anyway (regardless of my personal theological leanings) by "prohibiting" the partaking of the emblems by all.

  Did you ever attend meetings while on vacation?

  i remember when i was a kid going on vacation somewhere with my family, my parents would always have to find out where the local kingdom hall was.

  god forbid we should miss a meeting because we were actually enjoying our time away from work and school..

  i know for me it was soon after lurking here for awhile and reading some threads on the issue.

  i remenber when i tore it into little tiny pieces.

  Mine went through the laundry about 4 years ago. I never got a new one. It's been 2.5 years since being in a kh and about 1.5 years ago I told my doctor to change all my records for me and my child. My doctor of 12 years actually did a happy dance :)

  Male circumcision has very little to do with religion in many cases and has just recently become more of a matter of choice medically speaking at least here in the US. For years doctors performed male circumcision as standard procedure when one had a boy. The only time it was not routinely performed was at the special request of the parents. There is still some information out there that claims there are health benefits. That is neither here nor there but to make a statement that the minute potential decrease in pleasure that a male may experience as a result of having been circumcised in no way compares to the complete loss of the external female sex organs that are barbarically removed often later in a young girl's life using rudimentary tools. As a woman, to have someone even make a claim that a normal sex life for a circumcised man is not possible in the context of a discussion about FGM is insulting. There are millions of sexually satisfied circumcised males in the world and not one victim of FGM that is.

  My issue with the statement has nothing to do with religion or the lack of choice, it has to do with context. Comments on the morality of making irreversible choices for infants is one thing but please make your "decrease in pleasure" claim on a different thread.

  Anyone who tries to equate male circumcision with the mutilation of a young girl is obviously completely ignorant of the facts. Ridiculous and pure insanity.
