Perhaps I missed it in the article since I read it quickly but it seems as though she traveled before it was known she was exposed. As a nurse let me tell you that we are the front line and the least protected and most underpaid profession in the medical field. we don't get the luxury of saying no. We can't just call in at will. We are the first to be blamed and the last ones to be thanked. No she should have not gotten on that plane if she had knowledge of possible infection but clearly the hospital did not do its part in protecting her. Our local hospital had a scare and IMMEDIATELY shut down the ED and quarantined the hospital until it was verified that it was NOT Ebola. The medical profession and nurses specifically are in a tough situation. It is time for real and effective protection for those treating infected ones.

I really don't understand this
by keyser soze inwhy, if you're a health care worker who's been exposed to the ebola virus, would you get on an airplane and travel right after?.

Does money buy happiness and a longer life? You decide...
by Brock Talon ini poured over time magazine's sep 8-15 2014 edition article "who we are" and put together this spreadsheet on the results from their poll.
i found the statistics quite fascinating.. most people would say that "money doesn't buy happiness", but this poll seems to me to indicate the exact opposite of that.
it also correlates education levels with higher earning that result in that happiness.

I would think much would depend on how one obtained their wealth to determine whether happiness was a direct correlation. Hard work? Good. Hard work and always away from home and loved ones? Not so good. Inheritance or born into old money? Possibly good but fraught with variables. Windfall such as the lottery? Often lost very quickly due to mismanagement. Insurance payout? Usually the result of a highly unwanted death of a loved one. How one ends up with that money most certainly influences the impact it has on their life I would think.

Walking Dead, evidently a hit show
by nonjwspouse innot my cup o tea for sure, but i found out my nephew is a regular zombie on the show.. anyone here like the show?
i'm kinda afraid to even watch it ...my imagination is a bit to active.. .

I watched one and a half seasons and found the plot to be too repetitious. Survivors find safety. Survivors look for zombies. Zombies appear. Survivors fight zombies. Must find new shelter. Survivors move. Repeat (with slight variations in subplot). Maybe I'll try again one day.

My appeal was successful. Now what?
by noonehome infaders: why do we bother staying in?.
we cling to some false hope that people we love will accept us despite our not believing, even though its as much a fairytale as the dogmas based on untruths.. ive never been anything but a good friend and human being and would do anything for the people i love; i couldnt dream of shutting out someone i care about.
and its not like theyd revel in the idea of doing it either, yet its seen as not just the only choice, but also as undoubtedly the right thing to do.

Crazy how jw's feel such a need to tattle so THEY won't be considered blood guilty and be destroyed at Armageddon for remaining quiet. They have to tell on others to make themselves feel better. Rarely is it out of "concern" for the "sinner".

I switched to antennae TV (40 channels) and Netflix. Initial investment of $35 for antennae and I pay $7.99/mo for Netflix. So $8/ month for plenty of options tv wise. Walmart has a great family cell program that is waaaaaaay less expensive and you can keep whatever carrier you have and have a smart phone. Internet can be as little as $40 per month if you use the companies against one another. No reason at all to spend $350 on those "luxuries". I now use my savings to go back to school and hope to have my Master's in Forensics Nursing in 4 years.
Its a difficult cycle to break but it CAN be done. Mine was a choice, not a necessity. I just got tired of throwing my money away. Calculate how much each episode of your favorite TV program costs and see if it's worth it.

Oh my God, I knew it!!!
by Crazyguy ini am a big fan of the group 30 seconds to mars, and whats amazing is many of their songs seem to have a anti cult theme like "huricane" "up in the air" and others.
so after i watched a video of the song huricane, so i could see the lyrics i googled to see if they, the lead singer jared leto and his brother shannon, were former jw's and yes they were.
crazy small world!!!!.

How Often Do You Come To JWN? How Often Do You Post?
by minimus indo you check this site, daily?.
do you post very much?.

I am with cultBgone. Sometimes I go several weeks without even looking. Other times I check in daily to see if there is anything new I should be aware of so I can be on alert with my parents. Never been a big poster. Lots of anger in the beginning...now...it's not my focus. I avoid the bashing threads because they dredge up old feelings. I am not even known as being an ex JW in my new community. Doesn't matter as much as the days go by. I am just a regular person with a personal belief system. It's why I stay out of the state of my growing up years. Life is moving on :)

Even my 6-year old son can recognize TRASH when he sees it. He threw a NWT into the public garbage can! Yay!
by Faithful Witness inwe were out walking in a small michigan community this weekend.
we came across a "free lending library" on the street corner.
the sign said, "take a book, leave a book, or do both!

While I totally agree that the NWT is a JW fabrication, I hope you left some books in return for taking it and then tossed the book in private. Books in general should be respected and if someone saw a bible being tossed in the garbage (even if the NWT is a man made, self serving interpretation that no one should base their life on) they most definitely wouldn't understand the motive behind it and may see it as the desecration of a holy book. I understand the motive but just know how sensitive some are to the disposal of a "sacred" book even if we know it's been rewritten to align with JW thinking...I have disposed of mine...in private.
