I find the "folk" tag one of the most confusing as I like quite a bit of the stuff here but I wouldn't classify it as folk - Alison Krauss being an example.
I normally lump them all together as (mainly) acoustic singer songwriters.

Where is the Watchtower Food Bank?
by sacolton inso, my jw wife and i are having breakfast at our favorite restaraunt this morning and i mention that my workplace has a food bank to help homeless and needy families with meals.
our waitress cuts in and says she has some food that she would like to donate and asked if i could take them for her.
i agreed.

Jehovah's Witness British Branch - All Time Peak!

There doesn't appear to be a figure anywhere in this thread . . .
So what is this peak? I'm so out of touch I've no idea what the UK figure is.
As has been said - only the average publisher figure is worth bothering about as a true representation of the number of JWs.
So does anyone have these figures?
Following on from Besty, unless they've changed it since I left over 9 years ago the British Isles figure (I'm sure that's what the WT says) is actually England, Scotland and Wales. Northern Ireland which is part of the UK/GB/British Isles is actually lumped in with The Republic of Ireland's figures as they both report to he Dublin Branch Office. -

Pioneer Hour Requirements Not Changing
by Joker10 ini was told this morning by my parents that the circuit overseer told everyone in the congregation that certain rumor, the change in hour requirements for pioneers is not being lowered.
he mentioned he got this information from the governing body.
he advised everyone to stop believing in rumors!

Ok let's get the facts straight.
Firstly this was in the UK not the US - so it's not "Only in the US"
The teacher was banned from one school and a complaint lodged with her agency - so she was a supply teacher filling in for absence.
I agree with her ban/suspension from that school.
I don't think it's anything to do with "The Truth" it's to do with using some DISCRETION and understanding other peoples expectations.
It might be true that the Headteacher in the school was fat and ugly - but to tell the kids that would be unacceptable.
Lots of people, families and neighbours have different standards and perspectives but we don't go around pointing them out.
We just mind our own business and shut up about it.
It's called good manners and respecting other peoples standpoint. -

This is one of the few things I've seen circulated here that turned out not to be true.
Although it may be that they changed their minds after seeing the info widely circulated here (unlikely I'd say) I'd much prefer that we don't go into "WT positive spin" mode and just accept and admit that the info was wrong.
There's no dishonour in ADMITTING someone got something wrong. -

I think I know what I will leave my family in my Will
by Elsewhere inhaving been shunned, i have been stumped as to what, if anything, i would leave my biological family should i die before they do.. today i was struck by an idea: i'll leave them that bag of $50,000.00 (usd) in shredded cash i have in my closet.
(it's been sitting there for about 6 years).
there is something poetic about the whole idea.
