I do dishes. Does that make me Metro?
As long as you cook...., As I was reading today's paper (this article was in it), the TV show The View was on and they did a segment they called Straight Eye for the Queer Guy....they took a gay guy and had him hang out with three straight guys....he had to eat pizza, drink beer and watch sports and girls. He almost enjoyed it. They called themselves Metrosexuals because they know how to dress properly, they just choose not to.... The guy in the above story, Alan Hinson, is a local realtor I know....I always thought he was gay-he never talks about a wife! He looks, acts and speaks *gay*. Now I know he is just a *Metro*.....

Dean....the candidate who really cannot come up with his own lines....
TV Show Brought Debate Plus for Dean
By THE NEW YORK TIMES
ASHINGTON, Sept. 12 — Howard Dean got help from an unusual source in preparing for the Democratic debate in Baltimore on Tuesday: two veteran political consultants appearing with him on a television series.
One of Dr. Dean's best-received lines was fed to him by James Carville and Paul Begala in the taping of the mock reality show "K Street." His unusual source of help came to light last night at a screening of the new HBO show.
"If a percentage of minorities that's in your state has anything to do with how you connect with African-American voters, then Trent Lott would be Martin Luther King," he said to laughter and applause at the real debate.
In addition, Dr. Dean was shown using a line that he also used in the debate to argue that he could appeal to blacks, despite coming from an overwhelmingly white state, Vermont.
"I'll tell you why I connect with African-American audiences,"' he said. "I'm the only white politician that ever talks about race in front of white audiences."
Dr. Dean was later chastised by opponents who noted that many of the Democratic candidates regularly discussed racial issues with all audiences.
I watched the TV show K Street last night on HBO.....I had seen the debate last week. Funny, how Dean used exactly the same line in the fictional TV show, K Street, that he used during the real time presidential debate.
No wonder he was chastised by the other candidates. He looked like an idiot.

Bendrr....Doh!!!!
Thats what I meant!!!! I was *thinking* (kinda, sorta, before coffee) and knew it was a tax every one paid....you got it. A sales tax. (slaps forehead)
Either way would be better than what we have now, but only if administered properly.
The key is to get citizen groups involved to oversee the gov in these types of things. We need a consumers group to help....
I see no reason for flames....

Soylent Green.....
Personal and family responsibility.
When the government decided that they knew better how to handle our money for everyday living, the people should have risen up and said NO. History has proven that the government cannot handle our money and does not have our best interests at heart.
Lawmakers simply do not listen to the people anymore. It is all about special interests.

As for benefits for rich people, that makes me sick: giant tax breaks for corporations. Want to know how to not cut jobs, even create them???? DON'T GIVE THE FREAKIN' CEO'S GIANT RAISES EVERY YEAR.
I hate rich people.
Flat tax. Above a certain income level. Meaning if you earn below $20,000 you don't pay. Everyone else pays the same flat tax. (it is not that simple, however, you get the drift) The rich would pay their share.
As for CEO's getting pay raises....they have to get pay raises. They should be based upon performance. This will and is changing. The boards of public companies are usually friends of the CEO, so guess who says yes to the CEO compensation package? The board. Now, with accountabililty to the shareholders (the little people, through mutual funds and 401ks), boards are realizing that they are accountable and are realizing that CEOs and other high level execs have been over compensated, *sometimes*.
If you don't give them a raise, there will always be another company out there who will. A company that was performing could lose a great CEO who led the company and the company could start to slide. That is what drives compensation. If the public company slides, they start laying people off, which makes the stock slide and then the stock holders question why the CEO was not kept and/or compensated better.
I don't hate rich people. Maybe one day I'll win Lotto and be one. Then I'll look for every tax shelter I can find, I already know a great tax attorney; I just cannot afford him yet....

I would guess that the author of the article is including corporate welfare (usually defined as tax breaks etc.) and tax loopholes the super wealthy use.
The *super wealthy*, while paying a substantial portion of taxes, still can afford tax attorneys to set up trust funds, etc. to avoid paying taxes and yes, this is considered welfare. So they are getting a piece of the pie.
William P. is correct, both parties are tied to special interests and lobbiests. They take money from these groups and then vote in favor of laws that would help that special interest.
