I am not a smoker, nor do I much care for the smell of cigarette smoke. However, this is a legitimate question. It is well within the rights of any corporation to abolish smoking within the workplace. Many companies today do so, mainly to lower the cost of health insurance (at least here in the U.S.) However, smoking is not among the offenses listed at 1 Cor 5:11 or 1 Cor 6:9,10. The list of DF'ing offenses WTBS has is at least twice as long as the ones mentioned in these scriptures. No where in 2 Cor 7 does Paul say to expel someone from the congregation if this infraction is committed.

Today's WT study (w13 2/15 p.12 par. 18):
"We benefit from balanced consideration of the history of Jehovah's organization, even as the people of Israel benefited from reflecting on how God delivered them from Egyptian bondage."
And the last sentence in the same paragraph:
"Moreover, we do well to examine our history, learn from it, and plan for the future."

Questions Regarding the New Light on the FDS
by Ding init's my understanding that the old light regarding the faithful and discreet slave was that in 1918-1919 jesus appointed the faithful and discreet slave over all his house.. but under the new light, it's a two-stage process.. now the "truth" is that in 1919 jesus appointed the governing body to provide spiritual food in due season and the gb will only be placed in authority over his domestics during the great tribulation.. all of this is wt nonsense, but in order to get jws who believe this stuff to think about the implications, my questions are:.
1. what will the future appointment authorize the governing body to do that is not yet authorized?.
2. since under the old light the governing body has wrongly believed they have had this authority since 1919, doesn't this mean they have been wrongly exercising authority that jesus hasn't yet given them?.

LOL!
p. 10 par 4: "However, since they were overgrown by weedlike Christians, we do not know for certain who belonged to the wheat class during that long period of time."
This is just too funny because they don't know for certain who belongs to the wheat class today, either!
w11 8/15 p. 22: "We thus have no way of knowing the exact number of anointed ones on earth; nor do we need to know. The Governing Body does not keep a list of all partakers, for it does not maintain a global network of anointed ones."

First article:
p. 8 par 17: "We understood that the “arriving” mentioned in verse 46 was linked to the time when Jesus came to inspect the spiritual condition of the anointed in 1918 and that the appointment of the slave over all the Master’s belongings occurred in 1919. (Mal. 3:1) However, a further considerationof Jesus’ prophecy indicates that an adjustment in our understanding of the timing of certain aspects of Jesus’ prophecy is needed. Why so?"
p. 8 par 19: "So it is reasonable to conclude that Jesus’ arrival to appoint the faithful slave over all his belongings, mentioned at Matthew 24:46, 47, also applies to his future coming, during the great tribulation.[6] Indeed, a consideration of Jesus’ prophecy in its entirety makes it clear that each of these eight references to his coming applies to the future time of judgment during the great tribulation."
Now, it seems these writer aren't talking to each other. Next article:
p. 11 par 6: "To settle that question, Jesus began to inspect the spiritual temple in 1914. That inspection and cleansing work involved a period of time—from 1914 to the early part of 1919.[3]"
The Endnotes says: "Paragraph 6: [3] This is an adjustment in understanding. Previously, we thought that Jesus’ inspection took place in 1918."
Huh? Just a few pages back, they said it was future. My goodness. This is going to spin some heads.
Of course, JWs will say, 'oh, the appointment is future, but the inspection is past'. Oh boy.

The NWT translates almost verbatim from the Hebrew. The times to be suspicious are when you see words in [brackets]. Those are added for a variety of reasons, most notably, these two: (a) to provide clarity, (b) to support their interpretation of the verse. The latter is called eisegesis.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eisegesis
As for your question, NWT is not alone in this translation. See this:
http://bible.cc/isaiah/14-12.htm
You may want to click on the "Hebrew" tab, and look up the Strong's word.

In a footnote to paragraph four, the article defines “Apostasy” as “a standing away from true worship, a falling away, defection, rebellion, abandonment.” This of course begs the question of whether or not WT/JW teachings really are “true worship.”
Not sure if the footnote includes the definition safe for public consumption, or the definition used by elders. The one used by elders includes:
"Deliberately spreading teachings contrary to Bible truth as taught by Jehovah's Witnesses."
