I'm heading to the meeting in just a bit in my part of the world. Maybe I'll have a little fun with the section on Bethel. They LOVE Bethel. But what most don't know is that Bethel had quite a sordid history. It became a place where false worship was prevelant and had some pronouncements against it.
Hosea 10:15 - "In this way one will certainly do to YOU people, O Beth′el, because of YOUR extreme badness"
Amos 3:14 - "For, in the day of my holding an accounting for the revolts of Israel against him, I will also hold an accounting against the altars of Beth′el"
Amos 4:4 - "Come, YOU people, to Beth′el and commit transgression"Amos 5:4,5 - "For this is what Jehovah has said to the house of Israel, ‘Search for me, and keep living. 5 And do not search for Beth′el, and to Gil′gal YOU must not come, and to Be′er-she′ba YOU must not pass over; because Gil′gal itself will without fail go into exile; and as regards Beth′el, it will become something uncanny."

Name: leaving_quietly
Age: 40+
Educational Level: High School Graduate
College: None
Employment: Full Time
Religious affiliation: JW (raised from toddler on)
The pre-1988 era was "no college, no college, no college". Then, in 1988 or thereabouts, the Society relaxed its view. Too late for me. No money saved for college. Too bad, so sad. Then, in recent years, it's back to strongly denouncing college.
I happen to have a natural skill that pays well, so I've been able to use that for my employment for many years. I wish I had more education so I could diversify my skillset as the life of my skills is quickly dwindling. I'll be fortunate if I can do it another ten years.
One of the things that angered me as an elder was when we got a letter that basically threatened any elder with removal who either themselves or allowed a family member to go to college. That was early on when I started waking up to TTATT.
I do agree with most of the things WTBS says about college, but for very different reasons. I don't think it's all black and white, like WTBS likes us to believe. However, there is definitely some good advice given. College is expensive, and at least here in the U.S., you cannot default on a student loan. You can defer it for awhile, but interest compounds. If the issue that WTBS had was about the atmosphere in college, especially in a dormatory setting, I could see it as that could get out of hand for a believer. However, that's not WTBS' focus. Their focus is on the educational element itself. They do not believe bettering oneself in this system of things is proper, and they would have the rank and file be poor but in the ministry. I don't have an issue with that notion per say. They have a right to their opinion. What I have an issue with is their approach. In essence, they have become the master of MY faith as opposed to fellow workers. Whether I go to college or not is between me and my God.

Bible Translation Shenanigans
by Perry inby jack l. green.
the bible clearly and unmistakably teaches that the lord jesus christ is jehovah god.
the cult known as "jehovah witnesses" deny that jesus is jehovah, thus revealing that they are anti-christ.. not only have the "jehovah witnesses" tampered with the context of hundreds of scriptures, but now they have brazenly moved into the bible translation field.. their reason for doing this?

PelicanBeach: thanks for bringing that out. I thought that last night when I first read this thread, but wasn't in a position to comment. Forgot about it this morning.
Bobcat: as always, thank you.

Regarding Psalm 45:6, There's no Question From Readers on this verse. I expected one, but there isn't one.
There's also quite a bit of controversy about the rendering of this verse, if you look it up online. Translating it "Thy throne, O God..." seems to be the most natural, but one pauses since the context is talking about a human king. Interestingly, the word for "God" here is elohim. I'm no expert, but elohim appears to also be used to refer to humans in an elevated position. For example. Psalm 82:6 speaks of the rulers of Israel as "gods", with elohim being used in Hebrew.
I don't know what the correct translation is, or even should be, though. It appears, at least on the surface, to be another example of eisegesis.
Also, noteworthy, the old NWT had a footnote, "Or, “Your throne is of God; Your throne of God is.” The revised NWT does not have this footnote.

Major flub in Slavery Watchtower Study Article
by scotoma indo you ever wonder if the watchtower writers actually read the context of their key scriptures?.
they seem intent on perpetuating the idea that the jewish law was divine - perfect.. paragraph two asks the question "what would prompt an israelite slave to forfeit his opportunity.
to be free?".
