Arguably, 1914 is the most important doctrine to JWs, yet, especially among those that have studied and been baptized in the last 10-15 years, they cannot explain it and have no desire to.
I'm not sure which is more important... the 1914 doctrine or the 144,000 doctrine. Take away 1914, a bunch of JWs leave, but a bunch more will stay. Changing the 144,000 doctrine, however, becomes a lot more personal. It's taking away everyone's panda petting zoo and all their personal desires of what they believe the "new system" will be like for themselves.

"When you see the disgusting thing"... (let the reader use descernment)
by Ish Elon init is widely known that the roman army was the disgusting thing in the 1st century.
examine the statements below: 1. the dt was within the 1st century governing body in jerusalem.
take a look at the picture of apostles and elders in the "insight" book.

I totally don't buy the OP, but, the latest thing to send JWs to Israel in 2015 is REALLY interesting. Where is Jerusalem? In Israel. Will JWs go to Jerusalem during this special preaching tour?
"Therefore, when you catch sight of the disgusting thing that causes desolation, as spoken about by Daniel the prophet, standing in a holy place . . ." - Matt 24:15

This is 100% about control, as others have said. They don't trust the publishers to get it right? Why? Because it's an absolutely ridiculous explanation, and a totally fabricated prophecy!!!
Maybe I'll comment about the effectiveness. Raise my hand:
Conductor: Brother Quietly?
LQ: Um, I have a question: Why did the Witness in the demonstration use verses from Daniel 12 to attempt to convince the householder that Daniel was confused in a completely different vision and a complete different time in his life, when, according to Daniel 4, he clearly was NOT confused???
Conductor:
Conductor: Ok... anyone else?
-----
Or maybe:
LQ: Um, I have a question: How EXACTLY did the Witness in the demonstration connect Luke 21:24 to Daniel 4? I'm confused about that, since there doesn't seem to be any connection except the word times, which, frankly, is too generic to have any such connection.
-----
Or maybe:
LQ: Um, I have a question: Since we convert 1,260 days into years and multiply by two, and we get this number from Revelation 11:3, why isn't the time period the two witnesses in Revelation 11:3 converted to years? Shouldn't they witness for 1,260 years?
-----
Or maybe:
LQ: <stands up> HOW CAN ANY OF YOU BELIEVE THIS BULLSH**!!! <walks out>

One can dream, can't he?

Let's All Volunteer for the Warwick Project!!!
by pronomono inok, not really.. but the rbc is spamming my email trying to get my volunteer information.
it all seems kind of hokey.
it comes from some unofficial gmail account that i've never seen and telling me to go to a generic form website to enter in my personal information.

Yep, they're doing it with the RBC I'm still sign up with. At least our RBC sent us an email with a heads up. But, I've gotten several of these, even though I filled mine out. "No, I won't come and work at Warwick, not even temporarily" was the basic gist of my responses.
They are desparate for workers at Warwick, it seems. They've gone to great lengths to get people to go help. Their videos make it seem like all is flowing smoothly, but their letters and now this survey certainly makes one wonder if all is not as it seems.

JW.ORG REPORTS THE WATCHTOWER RESPONSE TO EBOLA
by NAVYTOWN ini just checked the jw.org website and noticed an article about the jw response to ebola.
as i suspected, the entire focus was on alerting and educating jw members about ebola.just like in other disaster situations, the jw organization almost exclusively assists it's own members, ignoring the general public.
it seems their main concern is keeping their members healthy so they can continue to spread the jw message door to door!!!

@ecan6, I wholeheartedly agree with you from that perspective.

One Day assembly in Arizona- $17,000 !!
by AndDontCallMeShirley ini heard from a reliable source that a one-day assembly in arizona last weekend had a "cost" to the publishers of $17,000.. predictably, the elders were nice enough to obligate the attendees to a $6,000 donation to wt before the assembly "costs" (i.e.
"rent/extortion) were even met.
$11,000 rent plus $6000 in extra "donations".

Ours was $9000 a few weeks back. $17,000 is more than the cost of a typical two-day! How much toilet paper and soap do you people go through???
Seriously, though, even $9000 is way high. I think we have a right to ask where all that money is going.
For our assembly hall, we suddenly have extremely manicured grounds with placards describing the types of flowers in each different area. Why in the world do we need that? It's outrageous.

We may fault the WTBTS for many things, but this shouldn't be one of them. At least they gave some direction for safety reasons. If you didn't read the article, for the picture a little farther down, the caption reads:
As a precaution, a Witness family cooperates with an area quarantine in Dolo’s Town, a community east of Monrovia, Liberia. The quarantine was lifted on September 8, 2014
So, for anyone saying they're encouraging D2D and meetings, that isn't exactly true. Seems like they're asking for cooperation with whatever the government says in this matter. Let's not paint WTBTS as being bad in this case. It's not like WTBTS has any more experience with how to handle with Ebola than anyone else.
Now, how much you believe of this article is up to you, but this part was noteworthy:
In Sierra Leone, an announcement aired on a local radio station outlining how Jehovah’s Witnesses helped their members and non-Witnesses in the community to avoid the Ebola virus.
So, fault them for what you want. In this case, I cannot.

Just because there's bible studies and newly interested ones doesn't mean there's growth. Growth can only be counted when the number of baptisms rises. In other words, when people actually get converted. It may, and probably will happen to some degree. I've seen plenty of bible studies and newly interested ones attend the KH for a few weeks, then disappear. That's not growth.

Do not store up treasures on earth
by runForever ini had a thought about this scripture: "do not store up for yourselfs treasures on earth where moth and rust destroy,.
and thieves break in and steal".
it really seems to fit storing up treasures in the jehovah's witnesses organization.

Did you feel good , important, make friends, meet your mate, during your years as pioneer, worker? That IS your reward.
As soon as I read this, the passage below immediately came to mind.
Take care not to practice your righteousness in front of men to be noticed by them; otherwise you will have no reward with your Father who is in the heavens. So when you make gifts of mercy, do not blow a trumpet ahead of you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be glorified by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. - Matt 6:1,2
