What are the things that wake people up from the Watchtower Corporation?
by punkofnice inwhen i became an elder i saw the dark side.
a side i previously believed couldn't possibly exist in the one true religion of the happiest people on earth.. then they rolled out 'overlapping generations(tm)' and that was the last straw.. all my life i had doubts but surpressed them thinking i was at fault and not the cult leaders.. it seems more likely that now the governing body are parading around like popes, wearing their expensive jewellery, that this will nauseate even dyed in the wool jws.. i wonder if the wake up can be condensed into main categories?.
1. experiencing the cruel handling of matters by the wbt$ reps.. 2. crazy doctrine (eg.

Mine was a combination of the two. A personally emotional situation at home forced me to research the issue and the organization's rules on the matter could not be backed up scripturally. While the emotional situation has not subsided, the fact that the organization's policies on the matter were clearly man-made started me down the path of doctrinal research. First up: overlapping generations. The rest, as they say, is history. -

Scrutinizing the teaching of Jesus Christ year 1874 vs 1914
by MacHislopp inas the date of return of the lord jesus christ and the beginning of his invisible presence or parousia.
what, then, about the parousia (presence) of christ?
so a.d. 1914 marks the time of christs invisible return in spirit.

Your first paragraph described my situation almost exactly. After months of shunning by my wife, at least she's being cordial to me now, but I don't expect it to last. We can't talk about anything anymore because almost everything revolves around the religion, and that's a taboo topic now. Her choice, not mine. Your wife may come around. Maybe not. Best to have an exit plan if you don't already. -

If true, housecleaning being axed could be is significant. As usual, follow the money. Do bethelites now have to purchase their own cleaning supplies? If so, then there's a large savings in the org not paying for supplies (chemicals, rags, soap/water used to wash the rags, vacuum cleaners, electricity used for vacuum cleaners, vacuum bags, maintenance on vacuum cleaners, etc.) Not that those will go away completely, but there will be a significant reduction, I'm guessing. -

My second favorite: John 5:21-23:
For just as the Father raises the dead up and makes them alive, so the Son also makes alive whomever he wants to. For the Father judges no one at all, but he has entrusted all the judging to the Son, so that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.

My favorite on this topic: John 5:39,40:
You are searching the Scriptures because you think that you will have everlasting life by means of them; and these are the very ones that bear witness about me. And yet you do not want to come to me so that you may have life.

So changes were made, but who cares because were so deep into the end, nothing the Organization does, really matters—does it?
by John Aquila inso i called a few jwdubs that still talk to me, not to try to convince them of anything or wake them up but to try to get a feedback on how they took the big meeting change and other announcements.
generally speaking, all the ones i talked to were not even fazed by the changes.
many of them still didnt even realize the meeting format had changed and thought the layoffs were a normal thing that happens all the time.

He went on to point out that when the Israelites left Egypt, it was a big change from a stable society to wandering in the wilderness. In Egypt they had onions, leeks, housing, etc, but in the wilderness they were wanderers, not knowing where they were headed the next day.
Do JWs not actually READ the Bible? The Israelites were on the threshold of the promised land. Then all except Caleb and Joshua gave a bad report and were too scared to go in. It was only AFTER that that they wandered. The wandering was their own fault! Had they kept their mouths shut, they would have been in the promised land 40 years earlier than they ended up in it. JWs conveniently forget this tiny little detail and talk about all the wandering and providing God did during that time.

First thoughts on "new" meeting...
by konceptual99 inhad a quick look at the workbook and flicked through the sample meeting video.. the increased use of video shows the trend for more centralised dissemination of "best practice" .
sure there isn't really a "school" any more and the format is a bit different but i think those that called it as the same old crap just in new package got it pretty much right.

My wife discovered the video yesterday and the new meeting workbook. No one, including me, told her about it. She doesn't like change. After watching the sample meeting video, here take was: same stuff, different packaging. So, there you go: a full-in JW thinks nothing really has changed. Moved the CBS from the start of the meeting to the end, expanded the Bible Highlights and has demos instead of school parts. Same stuff in a different package.
