Elders and MSs will visit with inactive ones during the CO vist. There's also a rumor that there will be one less meeting per week for the CO visit. Not sure an official letter is out just yet, but I read it here, and I heard it from another elder (that elder said it's a rumor, so it makes me wonder if he comes here from time to time).

My Elderette is attempting to change the subject again
by Faithful Witness inwe were in the middle of discussing their use of god's personal name, and miss k was not able to find one place in the bible, where jesus actually said the name out loud (that wasn't a quote from the ot).
we had started out by talking about jesus being "the way, the truth and the life.
" then she stated that one of the purposes of jesus' coming to earth, was "to make god's name known.

Jesus is reigning on his heavenly throne NOW, but will eventually be giving the authority back to his father. (Therefore, we need to keep Jehovah above Jesus).
There is no disagreement the Father is greater than the Son. The issue is that JWs don't do what Jesus said to do.
For example, here's a rare scripture in JW land:
For the Father judges no one at all, but he has entrusted all the judging to the Son, so that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him. - John 5:22,23
How can one be honoring the Son if they continue to do an end-run around him? And how about this?
Jesus said to him: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." - John 14:6
Ask a JW what that means, and they'll likely say, 'we pray in Jesus name'. Is that what it means? Have you ever been told to go to a particular person for something, but you ignore it and go over his head? How do you think either of those people feel about that? Didn't God give Jesus a covenant for a kingdom? (Luke 22:29) Didn't he give Jesus all authority in heaven and on earth? (Matt 28:18) And especially in relation to the congregation? (Eph 1:22) Didn't God say to listen to his son? (Matt 17:5)
And so if we're doing an end-run around and saying the congregation is directed by God and that this is "God's visible organization", isn't that doing the opposite of what God said and inspired writers to say? Even the apostles had the clear idea that all things belong to us, we belong to Christ, Christ belongs to God. (Eph 3:21-23)

Don't You Think It's Odd That "Jehovah" Was Invented By A Catholic Monk?...
by minimus inand that jehovah's witnesses are proud to use that name?.

That this could be so in some cases is indicated by the following statement appearing in the Katholische Bildepost (a Catholic magazine of Germany): “The name of God, however, which they [Jehovah’s Witnesses] have changed to ‘Jehovah’ is simply an invention of the sect.” (August 24, 1969) This statement smacks of religious prejudice. It also reveals poor research since, as already mentioned, the first writer to use the term “Jehova” was a Catholic monk—obviously not one of Jehovah’s Witnesses! -- w80 2/1 p. 12
Thank you for this opportunity to present some facts to you and to the public. We do not say that “Jehovah” is the correct pronunciation of God’s name. For that matter, neither is “Jesus” the correct pronunciation of Christ’s name. But according to the Aramaic language which Christ and his apostles spoke, his name was pronounced “Yeshu′a” (the a representing a gutteral ending). But “Jesus” is only our colloquial way of pronouncing his name, and we do not find fault with you for using it instead of Yeshu′a. However, if you call it shallow scholarship for the Committee to use the word Jehovah in the New World Translation, then you will have to admit that it is due to the shallow scholarship of the Roman Catholic clergy of the thirteenth century, for in that century the word historically appears among them. -- w50 12/1 p. 469 (part of a response to Matthew Smith, Monsignor of the Roman Catholic Church in America)

I brought up the "strange instructions" thing because my very-much-in JW mother brought it up to me recently. If you think JWs aren't paying attention, think again. The problem is, they can't really see things for what they are. They're too busy being enamored with all the activity that they don't have time to sit down and actually prove everything to themselves. The organization does NOT give them any room to breathe for normal life, let alone actually studying. Since I stepped down as an elder two years ago, I've had that time to study, and it TAKES that much time to study. My elder brother-in-law recently told me he has NO TIME for deep research like me.

Notice here: https://www.lds.org/manual/primary-1/lesson-15?lang=eng
Like JWs, Latter Day Saints say a lot of things without scriptures to back them up. They say worship means thinking about our Heavenly Father and Jesus and that's what God wanted on the Sabbath. But there is no verse to back that up. That's what THEY say the Sabbath means. But, the Bible says it was a day of "complete rest". Thinking about God on that day is in the original commands as far as I can tell. It was to simply be a day of rest, no work. And to make sure that his people didn't have to work, God provided double the portion of manna the day before and ensured it wouldn't spoil that day. Thus, they really had no reason to work.
Frankly, this was a pretty awesome thing. Could you imagine working for a boss who told you that you absolutely were never to work one day a week, that you were to just rest? Stay home and rest.
I'm already searching and am in 2 Kings, and there is no mention of "thinking about God" on the Sabbath.

The first mention of Sabbath is in Exodus 16.
Ex 16:22-30:
22 On the sixth day, they picked up twice as much bread, two omer measures for each person. So all the chieftains of the assembly came and reported it to Moses. 23 At that he said to them: “It is what Jehovah has said. Tomorrow there will be a complete rest, a holy sabbath to Jehovah. Bake what you need to bake, and boil what you need to boil; then save whatever is left over and keep it until the morning.” 24 So they saved it until the morning, just as Moses had commanded, and it did not stink nor were there maggots in it. 25 Then Moses said: “Eat it today, because today is a sabbath to Jehovah. Today you will not find it on the ground. 26 You will pick it up for six days, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, there will be none.” 27 However, some of the people did go out to pick it up on the seventh day, but they found nothing.
28 So Jehovah said to Moses: “How long will you refuse to keep my commandments and my laws? 29 Take notice of the fact that Jehovah has given you the Sabbath. That is why he is giving you the bread for two days on the sixth day. Everyone must stay where he is; nobody is to leave his locality on the seventh day.” 30 So the people observed the Sabbath on the seventh day.Ex 20:8-11:
“Remember the Sabbath day to keep it sacred. 9 You are to labor and do all your work for six days, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath to Jehovah your God. You must not do any work, neither you nor your son nor your daughter nor your slave man nor your slave girl nor your domestic animal nor your foreign resident who is inside your settlements. 11 For in six days Jehovah made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and he began to rest on the seventh day. That is why Jehovah blessed the Sabbath day and made it sacred.
Ex 31:14-17:
You must keep the Sabbath, for it is something holy to you. Whoever profanes it must be put to death. If anyone does any work on it, then that person must be cut off from among his people. 15 Six days work may be done, but on the seventh day is a sabbath of complete rest. It is something holy to Jehovah. Anyone doing work on the Sabbath day must be put to death. 16 The Israelites must keep the Sabbath; they must observe the Sabbath during all their generations. It is a lasting covenant. 17 It is an enduring sign between me and the people of Israel, for in six days Jehovah made the heavens and the earth and on the seventh day he rested and refreshed himself.’”
Ex 35:1-3:
Moses later gathered the entire assembly of the Israelites together and said to them: “These are the things that Jehovah has commanded to be done: 2 Work may be done for six days, but the seventh day will become something holy to you, a sabbath of complete rest to Jehovah. Anybody doing work on it will be put to death. 3 You must not light a fire in any of your dwelling places on the Sabbath day.
You get the idea.

Oooh, oooh, I know... there was JUST a talk on the School about this.
Adam did not observe the Sabbath
And Jesus was the end of the law and made it obsolete, including the Sabbath
So, no Sabbath required
The end.
Seriously, though... if he really wants to know, ask him to look at the ORIGINAL commands for the Sabbath and what it was to be for. I WISH we had a sabbath today since it was to be a day of "complete rest". Many religions make it out to be a day of worship, but that wasn't what God had commanded. I just did a word study on this, and I'm not done with it. By "word study", I mean that I searched for every occurrence of "sabbath" in the Bible and have all the verses in a document. I'm reading through it. This gives the sense of what is behind a certain word. For "sabbath", thus far, I can only gather that it was meant to be no working, resting, giving animals a much needed break. There wasn't any sense of going to worship on that day. The Israelites weren't even permitted to light a fire in their homes that day. The point was to rest.
Don't know if this helps at all.

Anyone else get the distinct impression that JWs are being worked up into a frenzy with all the changes and activity nowadays? By the end of August, there will have been FOUR campaigns inside of a year. One last November, a Memorial campaign, a convention campaign and an advertise JW.org campaign.
Then there's the conventions with all the hooplah around that with all the video, and the aggrandizement of synchronized GB talks.
Then the new KH fund arrangement, which most JWs see as a good thing.
Then there's the constantly updated content on jw.org, including videos for little kids.
Then there's the comment about being ready to obey strange instructions.
The list can go on and on.
I feel like I'm the only person who sees this for all hype and frenzy over nothing. Am I alone in this? Why can't JWs see this for what it is? I was a little tyke in the 1975 era, so I don't know what it was like then, but I suspect it was pretty similar to what it is now.
Jesus said, "Keep on the watch." He didn't tell his followers to go nutty about it.
