  Hmm. I question how good the lawyer was at getting information. The branch should have the original disfellowshipping info, even a minor record of it on the S-79a or S-79b card (whichever is applicable), even if the congregation fails to follow policy. That's according to a snippet reprinted in this thread. Of course, I don't know if that was the policy 20 years ago.

  BluesBrother, yes, you hit the nail on the head with this statement. This article made me really angry, even though I will probably never be in this situation myself. What really made me angry was paragraph 20, latter part:

  "He has given us his commandments--including those relating to family life and material needs-- for our benefit. When we follow them, we show that we love him and trust in him."This is what the love of God means, that we observe his commandments; and yet his commandments are not burdensome." -- 1 John 5:3"

  So, now, not going abroad for work is a commandment?

  Jesus called the Pharisees hypocrites because of "teaching commands of men as doctrines".

  Unbiased sources for research

  can anyone point me in the direction of unbiased (or outside) sources for research.

  i'm particularly interested in anything showing the teachings or russell and rutherford and proof of what the wts society was teaching in 1919?.

  i don't want to direct my friend to an apostate site..

  Also, youblisher.com has lots of older Watchtowers on there. Not an "apostate" site. Just google "youblisher watchower 1913", for example, to get the WT for that year. A LOT of my research has come from there.

  Does No Solicitation equal Put on "Do not Call List"?

  i live in a townhome complex.

  a few days ago i asked the property manager to ask the local kingdom hall to no longer place wtbts literature (propaganda) at the complex because the area is posted as no solicitation and because the literature is sometimes blown away from doors becoming litter.. today i received a response that the kingdom hall agreed to no longer place literature at the complex and to let him know if wtbts literature is placed at the complex.

  i was shocked how easy it was for the kh representative to agree to no longer place literature at the complex.

  Legally, no. Here's the deal:

  If a complex / community posts a "No Tresspassing" sign, it really means nothing. It's just there to scare people away. If an individual home within that community posts a "No Tresspassing" sign on their own home, JWs should not knock on that door.

  If a complex / community posts a "No Soliciting" sign, it means nothing for JWs since they are not soliciting (normally... I'll get to that in a minute). Same goes with an individual home. From a legal perspective, "no soliciting" does not apply to preaching religion.

  However, when JWs have campaigns where they are going around canvasing, they may very well fall into the "soliciting" category. Just going around and leaving those invitations / tracts is NOT preaching, and there could be a good case in court to make that activity fall under local canvasing / soliciting ordinances. This has not, to my knowledge, ever been challenged. And, this has not been specifically addressed by WTBTS. The last letter regarding all this came out to the BOEs prior to all the campaigns JWs have been having.

  Back to your situation: If someone in your community tells JWs to not be there, they will go away until another time. If you manager tells JWs to not be there, JWs are supposed to get their information, (name, community name, address), give it to the Service Overseer. The Service Overseer / Secretary is supposed to write a letter to the Legal Dept. The Legal Dept. will come back with a letter telling them not to work that community for a period of one year. (I guess is that they home the manager changes or forgets what they told them to begin with.)

  Another thing you can do is have your manager write a letter to the local KH or even to the branch requesting that they not have JWs visit the community.

  The problem in a community is that you personally cannot speak for everyone in your community. But, your manager DOES have the power to ask them to leave and not come back, and the JWs are supposed to follow protocol. It's important that your manager identifies him/herself as the manager, not just a homeowner.

  Another thing that might work is putting up a sign that says: "No Soliciting. No Tresspassing. That includes religious groups." This may very well dissuade JWs from entering the complex / community.

  the underground station i live next to in london is usually relatively quiet, however it is also the local station closest to the wimbledon tennis courts, so for about 2 weeks a year it really comes to life, starting today.

  There's a reason it's called "Metropolitan Witnessing". The goal is to reach people they could not normally reach, and where people are. The weird thing about it is that only "qualified publishers" can participate. These are usually regular pioneers or elders. The rest of the JW publishers should count their blessings they aren't so "qualified".

  here's my experience in the last 15 minutes.

  it's about 6 p.m and i'm home alone watching tv when someone knocks loudly on the door.

  i open and there, like an apparation, stand two of j smith's disciples -smart looking , well dressed ( they used to wear black ties only a few years ago) clean cut.. i inform them that i'm an ex-j witness and they are quiet for a moment.

  Wait... Mormons are actually preaching DOOR TO DOOR? JWs want us all to believe this isn't the case anymore. Hahahaha!

  Actually, we have tons of Mormons preaching in our area, both men and women. Men travel in twos with white shirts and black pants. The women have dresses on. You'd be hard pressed to tell a Mormon woman apart from a JW woman, except the Mormon women go to doors in threes . . . at least they ones I've seen on my street do.

  on friday, on the last speech of the morning, (the "key speech"), a bethel member slipped in some "new light" rather casually, without much fuss.

  he mentioned the out-of-body experience of the apostle paul, in 2 corinthians 12:2-4, where he experienced being "caught up to the third heaven ... caught up to paradise and heard inexpressible words...".

  2:7—What is “the paradise of God”? Since these words are addressed to anointed Christians, the paradise here must refer to the paradisaic heavenly realm—the very presence of God himself. The faithful anointed will be rewarded with eating “of the tree of life.” They will receive immortality.—1 Cor. 15:53.

  2 Cor 12:4 has been understood (at least 1952-2014) to be spiritual paradise condition that exists among God's people

  Luke 23:43 has been understood to be earthly

  These are the only three of four mentions of paradise in the Bible that we can look at. The fourth is in Song of Solomon and is used in a sensual sense.

  That 2 Cor 12:4 has changed to mean three paradises is quite silly. Paul said the man was in the third heaven not the third paradise.

  In context, the three above mentioned verses with the word "paradise" all talk about a heavenly paradise.
