As a life long witness, I always understood that not all jw rules were explictly written, many were implied and were expected to be followed. I raised two children in the "truth." They were never allowed to watch "Bewitched," "Casper, the friendly Ghost," or any other program on tv that even intimated anything supernatural. There was no cartoon watching for them because of violence or ghost or whatever the borg disapproved of. Hell, one time I said "Gosh" in front of some uber witness sisters while in a car group going out in service and was quickly reprimanded by one of them. So when I saw the "Sparlock" video I also thought that the borg is getting even more restrictive with what is allowed for children to play with (they play with your mind through implications of what is approved/disapproved). I had a recent conversation with a cousin who has remained in the periphery of jws all her life and has now decided to become a jw (she is now 69 yrs old). When she questioned me about some jw policy, I stated to her, "You have not lived as a jw all your life like I have. I have "walked the walk" not just "talked the talk," so you have no basis for questioning me about how the borg works and how your life is affected by their words and actions through the wt, the attitude of the elders, and the r/f, esp your jw family. imho, Cedars is not overstating the attitude of the borg.
Just my 2 cents as a life-long witness whose entire family (except 2 brothes and one cousin) are all still uber jws. This self same cousin just imformed me my nephew gave one of the talks at the DC this summer.

Terry, your reaction to that bully reminds me of Ralphie's reaction to his bully in "A Christms Story." Sometimes we've just had enough of someone's bullying. Good for that woman in Iran also. What's wrong with those men
in Iran? Do they not have the ability to control their reactions to a women's curves?

Everything is going bad.
by Decided ini just went up to see my friend who was in a care center.
i went in his room and he was dead, i had to call the nurse who said she was with him 15 minutes before.
i was in walmart the day before and saw an old school mate who's mother was a jw and he said he had cancer and had two years to live according to the doctor.

All scripture is inspired of god...which scripture?
by jamesmahon indon't know why but was thinking of 2 timothy 3:16 last night (you know 'all scripture is inspired of god etc').
i was thinking this scripture is used by the jws as well as others to say that the bible is the word of god.
however, as the bible is a construct several hundred years after the death of christ each writer was unaware of the bible as a whole.

I always wondered the same thing since the Bible had not been put together at the time Paul said those words. I assumed the "scripture" referred to the OT that they did have on hand.

CoCo, what beautiful and sensuous writing. Like rvw, I also did not know where you were taking us. I also love books. I want to hold the book in my hand and enjoy the whole sensation of reading and savoring the turning of the pages as I anticipate what will be reveled next. I do not read fast on purpose because I want to relish what I read. Last year's Journal from Barns and Nobel featured several different book's covers and gave background infromation about them. It was an interesting read. I have missed your posts of late. Your writings are always such a pleasue to read.
