i've been giving some thought recently to what's going on in the minds of the individual governing body members, and what makes them tick.
the process of listening to their talks for my "getting to know you" youtube video series, though draining, has been very enlightening.
i now feel i know some of their individual personalities a little better than i did previously.. then there has been the tumultuous events of 2012. it's been interesting to note the way the governing body has responded to some of these issues, and how in most cases their responses have been woefully inadequate or even counter-productive as regards their long-term interests.. for example:.
Cedars, great article, thanks for your analysis of all these events. I was particularly struck by your comment about them "linking themselves to the First Century apostolic model, even though apostolic succession is not a biblical concept but, essentially a catholic one. They have become the papacy they spent decades mocking, and many of the more switched-on and cynical Witnessess will never forgive them for it." Does the GD actually realize what they have done, or are they so deluded about this affimation on their part that it's implications have escaped them. I think the answer to this question is answered by your next statement:
"I know many of you think the Governing Body members are cynical and are treating this as one big game, but the more I listen to their talks and observe their actions, the more I feel that, for the most part, they are serious. They have bought their own publicity, and are acting accordingly."
I hope their delusions of grandeur become their undoing.

hi y'all, just wanted to let you know i was out for a stroll on my bicycle for exercise last week and got hit by a car 100 yards from my house.
it was a hit and run.
i got up with only minor bruises but felt really dizzy and asked one of my roommates to take me to the hospital as i was dizzy and felt i was going to pass out on the spot in the middle of the street.
Randy, I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience with the medication perscribed by your doctor; all medications have side effects. I was once prescribed a drug to lower my cholesterol, I did not have the prescription filled because I hate drugs. A month later, I took care of a patient who had taken the drug that I was prescribed and she could not walk after taking the drug for a month. A few months later, the drug was recalled by the manufacture. It was a statin drug and it was a bad drug.
I would also like to add that when you enter the hospital for any reason, the doctor writes the orders and the nurse follows them. Some procedures require that a patient be, what we in the medical field call, NPO, that means "nothing by mouth (oral). It is for the protection of the patient; your body has to be dry during certain procedures and most certainly for surgery, so that you will not aspirate, that is, get any fluid into the lungs, which could cause aspiration pneumonia or maybe worse. That's one reason iv fluids are administered, to hydrate the patient. What may seem to the patient cruel, is really not bad patient care, it is accepted medical treatment. Because the doctor may not know for certain what procedures he needs to do, he will often not let the patient have anything by mouth until he is certain of what he needs to do.
As for the jamming of needles up your arm all day long, labs are very important for knowing what is going on in your body. The doctor needs to know your bleeding time, how fast you bleed, how well your body coagulates, he needs to know about your hemoglobin, your white blood cells, your potassium, and all the chemisty in your body. Blood draws, sticks, are really not done to torture the patient. They are very important for your proper care.
I am glad you only suffered minor injuries from the hit and run accident. You were wise to go to the hospital because one never knows what hidden injuries there may be, such as a concussion. I wish you a speedy recovery. I cannot believe you pay $1000/month for health insurance, although I pay $800, so I should not be surprised.
I hope you were not offended by what I had to say about your treatment at the hospital, but because I am a RN, I know how patients feel about what we have to do in our care for them. I myself had to do without a drop of water or food for 24 hours while waiting for a brain test and it was terrible. Yes, they did find that I had a brain plus a brain aneurysm. I am fine now, but you never know. I hope the next year is better for you.

someone asked in another topic essentially what is your purpose in being here?
what do you plan to accomplish?
i thought i would start this topic as a result of that one.. i personally don't think i can 'change' anybody by being here...but the way i see it, this forum gives me a place to vent.
mythreesons, I was going to start a similar thread. I'glad you started it. It seems like the right time to discuss the reasons why we are here, what drove us and keeps us coming to this place. For me, it is not wanting to change anyone to my way of thinking as much as being able to share my thoughts and feelings with those who have lived a similar experience as I have. It's listening to and learing from the feelings and experiences of others. Some of us have been wounded more than others but only those of us who have lived the life of a jw can understand what it is to have lived this life. A life without Christmas, celebrating birthdays; having to sit while our schoolmates pledged allegiance to the flag of our particular country; having to be conscientious objectors, some going to prison for this belief. What dread we felt when out in FS of meeting our schoolmates. The list goes on and on... Not only did we grow up with the threat of a Third World War, we also lived with the threat of God killing us at Armaggodon, if we did not do enough in the work of the LORD, I mean borg.
This site also provides some real intellectual, religious, Biblical and scientific discussions. There's discussions on literature, poetry and just plain life. I like knowing what the WBTS is up to and the dumb things they have taught and are teaching; their doctrinal changes, their stupid and nefarious antics. Sometime I feel like I am trapped in the Hotel California, "You can check out any time but you can never leave." I don't feel like I have to leave this place to get on with my life, this site has become a part of my life, but not my LIFE. There are some pretty cool people on here, some very smart and articulate ones, some with problems, some who like to stir things up, but it's no different than I find out in the real world. I take the good things and leave the ones that may not be to my liking, just like in life. Anyway, that a little of my reasons for why I appricate this place.
this study will set the tone for future-proofing the watchtower society doctrine that their governing body is "the faithful slave" mentioned in parable by jesus in matthew24.. i thought as i read the study article starting on p.20 that the most important thing about this piece is what is missing, what is not said.. the first paragraph sets the tone of what they are trying to convey.. "while giving the composite sign of the last days jesus said, who really is the faithful and discreet slave?".
i believe what they are doing with the opening paragraph is placing the authority and position of "the slave" within the context of the signs of the times thus attempting to validate it.
without mentioning when they became such.. they then say that jesus would "reward" and appoint this slave over all his belongings.
00DAD, this is very interesting. Will have to do some reading on this. Looks like Hobo Ken did call it.

jd souther ... is most widely known for his part in writing somber, elegiac songs that the eagles and linda ronstadt made famous, such as "new kid in town," heartache tonight," and "faithless love.
" the new yorker, february 13 & 20, 2012, troubadour, page 36.. .
"i've never made a record in new york, start to finish," he went on.
PS Why does JD Souther feel he doesn't need to use periods when abbreviating his name, i.e. J.D. Souther? What makes HIM so special, as if he's immune from the rules of punctuation?
KS,because he's JD Souther! I love his songs, especially "Black Roses White Rhythm and Blues." Feel free to correct my grammer.
in a separate thread, there's been intense discussion about how the gb is still seeking to tighten its grip on the rank and file.
the latest evidence is the january 2013 watchtower which rolls out hugely predictable statements about not doing anything to upset one's (jw) family by, for example, being in email contact with a disfellowshipped witness.
it's hard to stifle the yawns.
My family is shunning me and my brothers big time. In fact, they are going byond the call to shun. My cousins refused a plant sent to their mother's funeral by my daughter, who is not a witness, has never been baptized, just because she is related to me.They are mean and rude as can be. I think they want to impress my nephews, one who is a DO and another a former Bethelit who gives talks at the DC.
i used to wonder about this when i was still a dub: since they believe the industrialized world is going to be destroyed and the entire earth will be one big garden, exactly what kind of standard of living do they think they will have?
while they might be able to scavenge, say, a microwave oven or washing machine; and they might be able to figure out how to generate electricity, eventually all of these things will wear out and they'll be back in an early 18th century type of life.
people of that time and earlier who enjoyed a high standard of living employed armies of servants to do the dirty work, but since equality will reign in the ns, everyone will have to toil like a slave just to maintain the basics.. or do they think that big j will magically power their washing machines and water pumps and all the stuff that makes modern living so comfortable?.
Blondi, thanks for the video. Sent it to my daugher who lives in Idaho. She wants me to move there. I had planned to move there in a few years. I may consider moving there sooner. She is already preparing for a disaster; that's Mormon territory and, as I am sure you know, they have always prepared for disaster. Everyone she knows has stored food, guns and bullets. I guess they are not relying on God to provide.

solomon alluded to it yesterday in a thread, i found the online large print pdfs here, not sure where the regular version is yet.
here are the full paragraphs, grab your barf bags .
19 on the other hand, if you choose the path of resentment.
Looks like they continue to put the screws to the r/f. They want to keep them busy so they will not think about what they are being asked, commanded to do. I really can't understand parents who refuse to have anything to do with their young, I mean those in their young adulthood. I could not have done it. I would just have to be disfellowshipped. What a sick cult!

The criminal trait of dogs is evolving right before our very eyes, and give it a few million years or so, and poodles will be cracking safes, hacking computers, disarming alarm systems, etc. That would NOT be good.
KS, if dogs ever develop an opposable thumb, we are in trouble! There is nothing they will not be able to accomplish with an opposable thumb.
Jaime l de Aragon, that is one smart dog!
Jgnat, I do need to work on trainning the Poodle. When we first got him, he would get in front of the tv set when he needed to go outside. He quickly learned how to get our attention. He may be more intelligent than me. I will try your advice.
Glander, I did change the dog's bedtime routine. I had let them sleep with me, but stopped trusting them not to upset my room. Then,I started sleeping on the sofa so I could watch tv and they slept with me, but I found I was not getting the proper rest. I resumed sleeping in my room alone (bought a new tv for my bedroom) and that's when I bought the gate for my bedroom. I never thought about the dog's being under "stress" from the change in routine. The poodle is a very determined dog. I hate to say it, but I depend on my dogs for protection. They are small but they can alert me to anyone's presence near my house. I have had trouble with a man coming to my house in the middle of the night several times. He robbed my husband once. The last time he came at 0200, my son did not open the door, but showed him his gun through the window and told him to leave. He has not returned, but I am wary of his return. I am thinking of taking the dogs for trainning at Petsmart. Maybe I can teach them to obey better.
Thanks for all your advice and replys.
