"new york city's new sensitivity guidelines for standardized tests ban 50 undesirable words that might 'evoke unpleasant emotions' in students, including 'dancing,' 'dinosaurs,' and 'birthdays.

expansion of wallkill to double in size - why?
warwick property?.
here is why it should be - jw retirement center for ministers of the full-time servant order.. there is such a lack of care for retired co, do, missionaries, special pioneers without real funds.. a real retirement center with care provided and hospital staff.. it will never happen, but if it did, what a change of heart by the gb for the beatup and thrown out full-timers who will never have to die in this old system!
Quite clearly they should have COUNTED THE COST before offering themselves for service, if they didnt count the cost then they were not serving the god of love properly.
Maisha , these poor souls believed that the "NEW ORDER" would come in their lifetime and they would have all their needs met. They did not expect to grow old and weak in this "System of Things." Remember? The end was
supposed to come in 1975; about 35 years ago! Who would have thought the GB/F&DS didn't know what the heck they were talking about. Thank goodness some of us had the brains to figure it out and get out while we could still
make plans for the future. The organization owes them something, but hell will freeze over before they get any help for the GB/F&DSLAVERS!

Designs, you're right. They could make that into a business. I think it's so sad that they treat those people so badly after they have given their lives to the organization. I guess they don't even have any Social Security to fall back
on. The so called F/DS-GB has no feeling or love for the flock.
i tired to find a youtube clip of this but couldn't.... but anyway, on real time a couple of weeks ago, during his opening monologue, bill maher was talking about the trayvon martin/zimmerman deal and he made mention of florida's "stand your ground" law, which allows an individual more leeway in using deadly force to defend against what they percieve as a threat to self or property.. going by memory, so i may not have the quote exactly correct but basically he joked, "good thing they don't have "stand your ground" here (california).
my front lawn would be littered with jehovah's witnesses".
.
I remember Johnny Carson relating one time that a JW had asked him "Have you ever head of the "GREAT CROWD?" He answered "Yes, that's why I left New York."
yeah in the section on attending the convention, you will find this gem:.
"therefore, we should give attention to our dress and grooming while in the convention city, including when we check in at the hotel.
arriving in shorts and a t-shirt would not reflect dignity.".
Something else that bothers me is when they cover these parts some jackass always comments on how each culture has different standards for dress and following those would be respectful of the local culture.
oookaaay?
So we need to follow the "worlds" culture?
DLL, You are so right, but you would only come to that conclusion if you were THINKING LOGICALLY! The organization (elders) can not be accused of using their common sense. Is there nothing they don't have an opinion rule on?
Can the r/f not be trusted to make any decisions on their own?
did he start believing in the trinity and hellfire?
i have not read in search of christian freedom yet as i do not have a copy of it.
does he touch on this in that book?.
Ros I am the one that brought a ten year post to the surface again " Antichrist"
I think newbies have the right to see it.
Mouthy, we newbies to this site are interested in what you all have discussed. Thanks for bringing them up.

Of the people who left during the Ray Franz era in Oklahoma City, I think that only myself and Marion Dunlap were actually DFd - about fifty people left but the local JCs were afraid to DF that many people all at once because of the shock factor.
I lived near OKC during that time and was not aware of that many people leaving at once. No one in my JW family would have told me what was going on in other congregations. I had already stopped attending meetings.
I got caught up in the purg that followed.

Thanks for all the infor in this thread. Although I have had Ray's book "In Search of Christian Freedom" I have not read it. I read COC years ago. I am also going to watch "The Third Man." One of the things I like about this site is
the different views that I am exposed to. I have my own views but consider what others have to say.

When my stict JW sister visited me (she has no children) in the mid-seventies, she commented that my 16 year old son needed a hair cut. I replied
"he got one yesterday, besides Jesus had long hair." She retorted, "Jesus walked everywhere he went, do you want to give up your car and walk?"
There's just no way to reason with the fashion partrol part of the organization. I guess they want everyone to look like a dork.Who makes up these
dumb rules? I think the the young man in the picture above look nice and neat. What's the problem?
for it is written:.

27. they were given outstanding insight into gods word, being empowered to rove about in it and, guided by holy spirit, to unlock age-old mysteries.
I was appalled to read your quotes about the GB’s view of themselves. I have been so busy in school and making a living that I had not read a WT since about 1984, about the time I read CoC (thank you Ray F.) I don’t remember them being so egomaniacal. I don’t know if I didn’t see it or if it has slowly developed since I left. Whatever the case may be, it is scary. I can’t believe the members of my family can accept this belief. It seems like they have deposed Jesus and borders on worship of man. Is this a new view?
