Did you ever have to walk out of/shut off a movie when watching with JWs?

i can only recall one occasion.

it was when my brother and future wife were dating.

they had dinner at my parents' house, along with her uber-zealous/borderline psychotic parents.

A brother and sister in the cong had invited me to theirs for dinner and they had rented a couple movies, one of which was School of rock. And I can't remember exactly wich bit but she had apparently already seen the movie and fast forward a "rude" bit. Now this movie is a PG so I never saw that coming, and it was a few years later I watched the film and I think all it was because jack black uttered a minor swear word!!

Also I knew a sister who wouldn't let her kid watch shrek because it had a fire breathing dragon on it!

And then when my dad went to the cinema to see Hannible, he told me not to tell anyone! Seriously wtf!

Just something else that makes one wonder if everything in the bible is just written by men, putting forth ideas that were not rooted in science and knowledge but of poor understanding.

How Are You Treated When JWs See You?

do they talk to you, ignore you, love bomb you??

Depends on who the jw is. Some will smile and keep walking others stop and say hello.

But it's always awkward and I realise how little in common I have with them. Once you ask how they are doing and how their family are doing there isn't much left to talk about beyond the weather.

There is one jw I see now again who is quite chatty but the conversation usually turns to the meeting or what assembly is going to be about, and I never quite no what to say to that.

At what age do people 'wake up'?

i was thinking about this question recently after being at the meeting when new pioneers were announced for the 2013 service year.. we have a dozen or so pioneers in the congregation, and most are in their 20's.

some absolutely love the things they are taught and can't wait to spread the good news.. others in the congregation are going through the motions, tired of hearing the same old same old but have no way to change things now.

then there are a couple like me.

Stopped going at 22

Didnt wake up completely til 26

It was a gradual process with lots of reading and thinking involved.

hi, everyone.. for many jws all they ever hear about is how wicked the world is and how it has gotten even worse lately.

the media does not help either.. and even for many ex jws who still have family who are still in, we have to listen to all that doom and gloom about the end of this system.. but, i would just like to recommend a website i found, (not sure if that violates jwn rules) .

its not religious at all, but is a news source of many heartwarming stories and news articles from all over the world that show just how wonderful life and and people can be.. i find it's a great antidote to remind us that the whole world is not wicked and in fact wickedness is still in the minority!.

Ever think how much more easy the "truth" could be if we knew then what we know now??

imagine being at a convention, only now you have no guilt about not paying attention and you have a smartphone with internet!.

the possibilities are endless, goof off and go to starbucks or shopping or whatever and not worry about rocks raining on your head!.

i wish i didn't feel too guilty do any of that at the time!!.
