Heck, I'm just excited to get my trash picked up every week. Most of the surrounding towns have to pay for trash pick up!!! Plus I am excited that all my recycles ( except for cereal board ) get picked up every week. I have nothing to complain about!

What about your JW past are you thankful for?
by nvrgnbk inin the interest of self-healing and finding the peace that comes from being grateful, can you think of anything at all that was positive about having been one of jehovah's witnesses?.
not to be misunderstood with missing something about it, is there something about the experience that has enriched you?.
to answer the question myself, being forced to face the fallacies of the teachings of jwism, i was also prompted to look past those teachings and reevaluate everything i believed in.. that experience was frightening and unsettling, but i'm thankful for it.. i now have a greater appreciation for life in all its wonder than i did when i took it for granted as one of jehovah's witnesses.. i'm more determined now to find meaning in this life, after having lived for so long for a future that was never to arrive..

About the only good thing I came away with is not being prejudiced against different races. That's about it.

JW's Raised In - Did you get bullied during you Grade School Years?
by BBOARD indue to the way i was raised a jw i constantly felt guilt for trying to act like the other guys and it made me stand out even worse.
to this day, due to this, i nowdays become somewhat physically ill whenever i hear a brother give a talk where he says (many here have heard it in different forms) "if jehovah was looking at you youths in the congregation during school could he tell the difference between you and a worldy person.
" myself and most of the other jw guys during middle school and high school did not have the confidence or the "rough and ready to fight" type of body language so we tended to get picked on.

I never really got picked on in elementary school, thank goodness. In High school my witness friend and I got picked on a bit. We were both girls at a Tech school in typically boy shops. We would play football with some of the boys at lunch time. The girls would always say that we only played with the boys because that was the only way we could be touched by boys because we were witnesses and couldn't have boyfriends. Oh yeah, and they also called us lesbians. Lol. Like witness girls could even be lesbians! ha ha

Seen it a few times. Love it. It is too funny. Mandy Moore cracks me up, especially when she throws a bible at Jenna Malone.

What's the deal with beards????
by bittersweet inok, so my brother in law, a former elder, decided to grow a beard a while ago.
he initially grew it because he had a small rash he was trying to cover up, but that has since gone, and he has kept the beard.
he kept the beard because it made such a fuss that he decided if he shaved it off it would be like giving in to the brothers.

Ok, so my brother in law, a former elder, decided to grow a beard a while ago. He initially grew it because he had a small rash he was trying to cover up, but that has since gone, and he has kept the beard. He kept the beard because it made such a fuss that he decided if he shaved it off it would be like giving in to the brothers. He has been told he is a bad spiritual head to his family, that he is setting a bad example for his children, and that he is not being a humble follower because he won't follow the brothers instructions. All of this over facial hair. My brother in law is from England, and he said it's not a big deal over there. He has asked the brothers to show him where it states in the bible one cannot have a beard. Of course there is nothing. Apparantly the last time it was addressed by the society was back in the 70's. Now a days many professional people have beards. We are no longer plagued by those crazy hippies who gave the beard a bad name, so what's the deal?? Personally I find the whole thing hilarious.

Thanks for the replies all! No apologies, how the heck are you?? I am very glad hubby doesn't go to meetings. He is a high anxiety kinda fellow, and his main reason for not going back is because he has been gone for so long he is nervous about it. He still plans too, but I am just happy for whatever I can get. He won't make my kids go, and he lets them do what they want. Both my teenagers even have girlfriends who come over all the time, and both of them also have a band and they are allowed to play shows and everything!! I really can't complain about the homefront. Also, my sister is slowly fading and her husband who was an elder stepped down and even grew a beard! Imagine that! Blondie....funny thing about these people dropping by. None of them seemed to care before I had my baby. And none of them brought me a meal. I believe they were just counting their service time and needed someone to bug, so they chose me. I am really beginning to think I should just DA myself, then they would leave me alone. Thanks again for all your congrats. I can't even begin to say how excited I am to have a little girl after all these years! :)

for me it was the beginning of the end. I didn't have a whole lot of faith before that, but after it pretty much put the nail in the coffin. Got tired of all the lies.

ok....I haven't posted on here in a really long time. Hi all. So, I just had a baby ( a girl after 3 boys, woohoo!!! ) a little less than three weeks ago. I haven't been to a meeting in more than five years. My husband hasn't gone in over a year ( but he still believes, unlike myself ). Anyway, it seems if you give birth, it opens the flood gates of visits from witnesses, and I am really starting to get annoyed!! It started the day after I came home from the hospital. It was a Sunday, and an elder ( who I really do not like at all ) and his wife just decided to drop on by. No phone call before hand to see if I was up for visitors. Thankfully I was sleeping with the baby, and my husband answered the door and talked to them. A week later, I am awaked at 11 AM ( baby was up all night and I was trying to catch up on sleep ) by my dog barking furiously. I come out to the kitchen ( in my P.J.'s with my boobs half hanging out ) and see there is someone at my door. Why it was my mother ( a witness of course ) in her Sunday best. I answer the door quite groggy, and she takes one look at me and says "Oh, I guess you're not up for company, eh?" I say "no, most definately not". She tells me she has a car group of people in the car who would like to see me, but I decline the request, and she is off on her merry way. Yesterday I finally get out of the house to go food shopping, and when I get home I am informed that two brothers ( one I don't mind ), an elder and a servant stopped by to see the baby. Okaaaaayyy. I have only a few weeks left of my maternity leave, and I feel as though I have to spend it on alert. I wanted a relaxing ( as relaxing as it can be with a newborn ) few weeks to spend with my little girl, not fending off witnesses. My so called "worldly" friends are polite enough to call first before coming over. I suppose the witnesses figure I either a) wouldn't pick up the phone if they called, or b) I would tell them no, they may not come over. Any way, I just wanted to complain a little a get that off my chest, and I knew you guys would listen and understand. :)

Are you a witness because it is the path of least resistance?
by tfsm ini think most (particularly those with witness parents or family) are witnesses because it is easier to stay than to go.
what i am wondering is- why would a reasonably educated adult choose to become a witness in the first place?
my parents got into it when i was about five and i have asked them what the reason was and the answer has varied over the years from "the world is a sick place and we did it for you" to "we were lost and looking for something".

I know I stayed a witness for a really long time because for me it was the easiest thing to do. I didn't want to rock the boat. My mom became a witness back in the 70's. We heard all the same stuff, "the world is passing away soon" "don't go to clloege ", blah, blah, blah. I was always jealous that my mom didn't grow up a witness. She was allowed to join after school activities, she could go to her prom, all the things she took away from me. I believe the reason she became a witness was it gave her structure when she was going thru a lot of things with my dad. It told her what was right and what was wrong, she didn't have to figure it out for herself. Obviously a lot of adults become witnesses because they are going thru hard times, and they want to think there's something better in store for them. That's why most [people who are happy in their lives, and jobs, don't become witnesses. That's just my thought though.

I'm not quite sure why, but the Logical song by Supertramp always makes me feel nostalgic and a little sad.
