Totally overdone in my opinion. I found this to be a pain myself. When I was in highschool, I had a ton of guy friends ( partly due to the fact that I was the only girl in a boys shop ). Of couse since they were "worldly" I couldn't hang out with them anyway. But one of the boys in my shop was a witness, and I couldn't hang around with him outside of school because it wouldn't look right.I had a couple othr boys in the hall that I was friends with, but we couldn't hang around either, unless we got a huge group together of both male and female. And as adults, god forbid you're friends with a member of the opposite sex, or someone's spouse. One automatically thinks "something" must be going on. I tend to be friends with people I have things in common with, regardless of what sex they are.

i am absolutely certain that fred hall is spitting image of mr burns, i can picture him so clearly in his grey raincoat and gold leaf dog eared bible walking hunchedup in the rain pestering people on a sunday afternoon.....

I like the episode where the Simpsons sue the church, but the church has no money, so the Simpsons get the building and move into the church. I would love to do that to a KH, move in an then hang x-mas lights and have a huge party!

IQ and JWs
by Freedomrules indo you think there is any correlation between intelligence and membership?
most jws i've known aren't that bright, and it seems that most that leave are really intelligent.. just an observation.
any thoughts?.

I know quite a few intelligent witnesses. I also know quite a few not so intelligent witnesses. IMHO, it's about 50/50.

Depression, Suicide, Abusive Parents
by kitties_and_horses_oh_my! inthis is my first time posting...i've been lurking for awhile.
i "faded away" in september and my mental health has greatly improved, although i still struggle with a somewhat-controlled eating disorder.
i have a long history of mental health problems, from the time i was about 20. i was raised "in the truth" and my parents were very emotionally/verbally abusive.

Welcome! Great to have you here.
I also grew up in the "truth" and had a lot of problems with depression. Now that I have left the org, I have a much better handle on things. My little sister went thru terrible depression spells ( she was commited to the hospital many times as a teenager for severe eating disorders and suicide attempts ), but she left the org at 17, and is now 22, and her life is so much better. It seems the longer you are out, the better you get. It certainly helps coming here and finding so many others with similar experiences.

Do you remember why the "donation" arrangement came about?
by Jourles inover ten years ago when the society changed their format from a contribution basis(pay us for the literature) to a complete donation arrangement, what were you told as to the reason for making this change?
simplification?
easier on the brothers to receive literature?

I never realized this. I always wondered why they changed the whole thing. I was glad for it though, because then I could just give the magazines away to householders. Others would tell me you have to ask for a donation, but I would tell them I already put the money in the box when I picked them up, so they are already paid for.

I lost my baby
