  Canadian JW's Sue Over Blood Transfusion

  jehovah's witnesses have lost a case in nevada over an administered blood transfusion to a child, as announced today.

  now, also, they are suing a canadian province over their son's forced blood transfusions.

  wonder if the nevada supreme court ruling could have any effect in a canadian court???

  Way to go Hawkaw!!!

  With all the leadership's teachings ingrained in the heads of the JWs, the threat of excommunication/shunning and lack of understanding of what the blood doctrine is about, there is no way for the parents to make an "informed decision" on the JW leadership's blood doctrine ban and the health and welfare of their child. Thus, the Province has to step in and protect the health and welfare of this innocent little child.

  The above is excellent - JWs make much of "informed consent" because that's what the GB tell them, yet they have no clear idea of what is entailed in the convoluted Watchtower teachings.

  Good letter, and I especially enjoyed the part where you detailed who the lawyer works for.

  Rwanda, Neutrality and Muslims - what about the dubs?

  we have all read in the wts publications about how neutral the dubs were during the hutu/tutsi massacre.

  i have no doubt that the majority of dubs remained neutral.

  however, it is interesting to read how other major religions also helped each other out, as well as took risks to protect their neighbours.

  happy man: you say that the JWs have clean hands as far as Rwanda goes; my point in posting that article was to show that not only JWs refused to participate in the slaughter, and not only JWs helped out their neighbours. It is interesting that what may come across as a pro-Muslim post gets little response .

However, it is interesting to read how other major religions also helped each other out, as well as took risks to protect their neighbours. By reading dub literature one would think that JWs were the only ones to lay claim to the moral high ground during times of atrocities. If that were so, why aren't Rwandans converting to dubdom, rather than Islam?

  Congregation Book Studies in a brothers home-What weirdness did you endure?

  when i was new witness in the late 70's i was assigned to young couples new home.

  we were required to park our shoes inside the back door and proceed in our socks to the front room...fine.

  the other piece to this was the couple hosting study had a big male blood hound dog of some kind.

  Why do people think it's weird to have to remove your shoes? It's only polite - unless you're going to stay afterwards to clean the carpet and rugs and eventually chip in to buy new ones! Their carpet is cleaner (hopefully!) than the soles of your shoes when you've just been outside walking through puddles and mud and goodness knows what else.

  I agree! and if you come to my house now you will remove your shoes, I'm not cleaning up after you! Most people, JW or not, don't seem to have enough sense to wipe the grime/dirt/mud whatever of their shoes before tramping all over your house so - off with the shoes!

  This is definitely not a JW quirk. Where on earth do you guys live?

  garybuss: great article - thanks very much. I have copied it and will keep it for future reference. I plan on applying for night classes at university, with a minor in religious tudies and one of the options is cults. This is good material, particularly as it came from a non-dub source.

  when i say to move, it means go someplace else, not switch positions with each other so there are still two of you in the way.

  the dishes with the paw prints are yours and contain your food.

  Absolutely great! I am printing it for my other cat friends at work.

  This part is soooo true:

  I cannot buy anything bigger than a king size bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think I will continue to sleep on the couch to ensure your comfort. Look at videos of dogs and cats sleeping. They can actually curl up in a ball. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space used is nothing but sarcasm.

  I was thinking of that when my cat stretched out across my bed last night. She unselfishly left me a space about 4.5 inches along one edge, so of course that's where I teetered, trying to read, until she decided to move over a bit.

  The other cat lies across my arm as I type, like Nadsam's. And as every cat owner can understand, my arm will go numb before I even contemplate moving her somewhere else.

  My first meetup!

  i met my first ex-jw today.

  i could hardly get any sleep last night and kept waking up... armageddon nightmares were bugging me.

  my family had left that morning for the entire day, and it was perfect for getting out of the house... i had already planned meeting waiting's son and his partner at a local starbucks in the morning.

  Good for you SC! Glad to hear you got to meet other ex-JWs. It'll help a lot in your growth outside the borg to see how others have coped and been able to have a real life.

  You're very fortunate that you're still young and about to go to college. I wasted way too much time in the borg.

  Do not, I repeat, do not feel guilty or dirty about looking after your future. The WTS certainly won't do that. They will chew you up and then spit you out. The fact that guilt has to be used in order to coerce people into doing what the borg wants speaks volumes about the legitimacy, or rather, lack thereof, of their teachings.

  You are doing the right thing going to college; the less contact you have with the dubs, the more and more you'll start to feel "normal" about your life away from them, and the guilt will disappear.

  Now have another nice cup of tea!

  I am still amazed at this brotherhood

  i was talking to a very good friend yesterday, and realized something that has been hinted on in a few other threads, but i think that this needs to be pointed out for the newbies and lurkers sake.. in the organization, we were told that if we left the "truth", then we would have nothing and no-one to go to, we would lose this worldwide brotherhood of over 6 million people.

  many of us would lose our families.. but here, in cyberspace, we have all found something very special.

  we have found this amazing place where we can voice our doubts, talk about our beliefs, be ourselves, and not have to worry that we will be cast out.

  Ditto your comments FMZ! I would also add that, even though many of us have not met a lot of the posters here, we probably "know" each other more than lots of the people in our various Kingdom Halls knew us, including many so-called friends we thought we had. Here we can open up, express doubt, find out who we are and what we think. If things go wrong in our lives we have a place to vent on this forum, not like at the KH where we're always had to walk on eggshells.

  I've learned what my own opinions are on various issues by reading a lot of the posters, the pros and cons of different questions that we never had to think about during our days as dubs, since the Borg took over our thinking for us and told us what to believe vis-a-vis abortion, creationism, euthanasia, politics, etc. etc.

  We receive good recommendations on books to read, legitimate, factual websites on a variety of topics, plus we learn of countless personal dramas (and comedies) from the posters here.

  I've learned that people can be diametrically opposed ideologically to another person's point of view, yet still get along. If someone is hurting, everyone is there to listen, give advice, or practical help if they are in the same vicinity. No one gets shunned for having "wrong" ideas.

  I've changed soooooooo much in the last year, and much of that growth has been thanks to this forum.

  Thanks to everyone, to Simon and Angharad, the mods, and to you FMZ for reminding us of how helpful this place has been.
