  FDS Sends Convention Delegates Packin'

  jehovah's witness across north america are being sternly counseled at this week's service meeting that they should pack lunches during the 2004 dictrict convention instead of leaving the site to eat elsewere or return with food.

  in a letter read during the announcements, members are told this is a "serious problem".

  reportedly jws have been banned from some convention locations because the venues want concession stand business if jws insist on bringing carry-out meals into the facility.

  Articles like this make my blood boil. Mum won't be listening in on Sunday's meeting because

  1. f&&king elder who called and asked for her time but couldn't be bothered asking how she was doing will be giving the talk; and

  2. this article will only highlight how neglectful the local JWs are.

  When the brother calls for the meeting I'll answer and then when the line is plugged into the KH sound system I'll hang up, make a pina colada for mum and have her sit on the deck and watch the birds in the garden.

  Out of 140 publishers there are two couples and two single sisters who offer any kind of practical, consistent help. Mum's been a JW for 43 years.

  In a way it's a shame, I feel sorry for the average JW, who probably wants to do well, and would undoubtedly feel so much better by actually helping another person in tangible, charitable ways, but due to the WTS pressure to keep up the treadmill of fruitless activity they're just exhausted and have no time for "real" good works. Pisses me off, though the lack of attention from everyone is certainly helping my "fade" from dubdom.

  Blondie, you'll be much happier in your garden this weekend than sitting in the local Kingdom Hall, right?

  My Gay Life

  it seems millenia ago that homosexuals dared not declare that fact about them out loud for fear of being imprisoned, beaten to death or at least ostracized by society.

  true, some are still ostracized, some are still beaten but more and more they are simply becoming a part of the social fabric of families, communities and society as a whole.. was it just 1969 that a handful of drag queens decided enough was enough and refused to meekly be led off to jail for the night simply for socializing with each other in a bar in new york city.

  i was 11 years old when that happened and was just beginning to understand that i myself was a homosexual.

  Thats what human rights are you know, the right to be human. The right to have a job, to live where we want, to not be jailed for expressing our love, to be able to make known to our neighbors that we are a couple and now last but not least to be able to say in public that we are capable and desirous of committing ourselves to another person for life.

  We indeed do not live as animals but as humans. Homosexual couples buy houses, get sick, have kids, have financial troubles, laugh with happiness when they find love and cry with sadness when they lose the ones they love just like heterosexual couples.

  That 10 year old, 15 year old, 22 year old, 30 year old gay boy/man would never have thought he would see it in his lifetime.

  This summer Mitch and I will go to New York. On the top of the agenda is to go to the location of the Stonewall bar and give thanks and homage to those brave drag queens who started it all a mere 35 years ago.

  Beautiful, absolutely beautiful. My brother and his partner of 20 years live in the Gay Village here in the city. The gay pride parade is a blast, plus there are street festivals, art shows, it's great!

  If you feel like an hour's plane ride north of the Big Apple, I'd love to meet you and Mitch!

  The jury found the father guilty of murder; a year late the mother's trial was held. She was found not guilty on the murder charge, guilty on the other charges which I think included some sort of abuse charges. Considering the time she had already spent in jail awaiting trial, she didn't have to do more jail time.

  Some jury members were interviewed and someone mentioned that there were many people responsible for he baby's death, not just the parents. Others could have intervened but didn't, however they weren't the ones to stand trial so weren't charged with anything.

  Did you ever actually make a JW convert from the door-to-door work?

  in all the years i went door to door as a jw, i never once had a study who went all the way to baptism.

  in the thirty years i've know my wife -- who has been a jw all this time -- she has never made a single convert from going door to door either.

  is this true of others on this forum?

  Yup, a few actually. The husband of one couple I studied with became an elder. Fortunately, he and his wife are both out. As for the others, I have no idea where they are anymore.

  Did you ever experience "Joy"?

  one thing that always struck me was the rather dour nature of the organization.

  i know people laugh, and at seem to have a good time, at least occasionally.

  however, one thing i just haven't seen is a real outpouring of joy, like david dancing like a crazy man or some of the other occassions in the scriptures when it seems like people were almost overcome with joy.. anyone here ever feel real joy as a witness?

  I remember wondering how other people of different religions could seem so happy and full of joy when they didn't have the "truth". I felt stressed out and guilty over never doing enough (even when I was a special pioneer), then I'd meet born-again Christians, Buddhists, etc. and wonder why on earth they were so happy!

  I'm much happier now!
