as most are aware, vicki boer has been long awaiting a decision to be handed down in a case she started against the society in canada.. the decision was handed down today.
as with any 55 page decision, it will take some time for the legal experts to hash it over and decipher what was said.
but, in a nutshell..... vicki won.

i'm just wondering...... i remember going to some wedding receptions for couples who got married at the kingdom hall,.
and i hate to be mean but, super boring, and bad, how bad you ask ??
ok here we go ..... - the worst had to be one couple played kingdom meolodies for their wedding dances, i couldn't believe it.. - no alcohol (i'm sure we all experienced a few of these), reception was over by 9:30.. - no music at all, just a gathering of people, and they ended the reception with a prayer, i thought i was at an assembly.. - food, like if you can't afford to get married don't, like frozen stuff bought at your local grocery store, and still in the package when you got up to the tables, how tacky.. - you could always tell a couple who couldn't afford much, when you had to drive 50 miles into the back woods to find some dinky little community hall they rented for $100.. - i remember one where the bride was pregnant, i was really surprised they allowed them to use the kingdom hall.. - another classic was, they had this band (of all jw's of course) and man they were bad.

well, i can't say i didn't see this coming, but the reality has hit me.
my father has put me in a difficult position.
first of all, i need to give you guys some background on the situation.. back when i was 20 years old, i had a girlfriend.

Seems pretty clear to me. If your father has been talking about having his bills cleared up for as long as you can remember and still hasn’t done so, things aren’t going to change. You’d like to think so, just as I wished my father had more interest in me than in his bottle. It won’t happen, not based merely on his promise.
Debts are something you can do something about, a manipulative family environment isn’t. The only thing you can do is get out. Fast. Now.

i have been reading quite a few of these threads and post and through it i feel as though i have come to know some of you and your behaviors.. i notice that there are many of you who are still associated with the hall, and have not left yet... yet, bring up very "strong" points on the board.. i have a question for all of you who fit this description.... why dont you just 'effin leave already?

Self-appointed power from the so-called faithful slave ranks top on my list. It is the denial of independent thinking, the 'do exactly as I say' type attitude that I despise. To me it is ironic that we are persuaded to squelch the same independent thinking that got us out of our former religion and into the "true religion" in the first place.

I agree completely. I don't think we've evolved enough to even know where to begin our research about spiritual/metaphysical effects.

Does that means it's the end of the road as far as such research/questioning/probing are concerned? Perhaps for some, but not for me. I'd rather say that we don't know and probably in my lifetime we won't ever know, but I'll keep exploring these and other phenomena and enjoy the ride while I'm at it.
I believe that as humans evolve we will be able to explain these types of occurrences, one way or the other. We're not there yet.
Scott Peck speaks of something similar in The Road Less Traveled and the book “The Sense of Being Stared At” by Rupert Sheldrake is also one I want to read.

this is not terribly surprising, unless you consider that this is inscribed on the remains of the temple the vatican was built on- one dedicated to the god mithras.
such eerie parallels between the pronouncements of jesus and mithras are not the only similarities.

Blondie: I imagine these poor ones buried themselves in field service because no one bothered to give them any real comfort or lend them a shoulder to cry on, so they had to cope with their grief by themselves, and keeping busy was better than facing the emptiness.
Blondie: with my mother sick these past few months (a stroke then a heart attack) one of the elder’s wives told me to make sure I kept up my spirituality (how? oh yeah right, by going to those ridiculous meetings!), so I told her that if others would volunteer to help out then I would have the time to go. She sputtered about having the ones from our previous hall help out, since they know my mum better. Yeah, all those “brothers and sisters and mothers and fathers” Jesus talked about gaining sure are apparent in the Kingdom Halls !
