last night, on "er", an intern has a dispute with a doctor about a patient's chances.

for survival.

the doctor asserts that a cure might be 50 years away.. the intern says no, maybe 5!

I just hope the idiots who go on about how stem cell research is evil never have someone close to them die from something that could have been easily prevented with stem cell research.

AMEN!!! It's got to be the most promising thing I've ever heard of as far as cures for "myriads and myriads" (sorry!) of ailments. It would be such a waste and a pity for this to be blocked by some right-wing fanatic fundamentalist wanna-be Christians who will yet again invoke God's name to justify their asinine phony moralistic judgements.

I don't feel strongly about this or anything, you understand.

I'm in love with a witness

i'm new to this forum and have been reading all these topics and posts and kind of getting to know some of you.

i've always purposely avoided anti-witness or ex-witness opinion before but i'm tired and am looking for an end to it all.

like it says, i am very much in love with a witness, and she is very much in love with me.

There's a great book, "How to Rescue Your Loved One from the Watchtower." I think it's by Randy Watters. Anyway you can get it from the bookstore at www.freeminds.org, along with some other great reference books like "Reasoning with JWs."

JW's Should Start Their Own Country!

jehovas' witnesses are an interesting group.

they enjoy the freedoms and liberties that they receive by living in the united states, but at the same time they refuse to partake in voting, national celebrations and have basically created their own nation within a nation.

i find it hypocritical for them to act in this manner and believe that they should gather from around the world and all go and live together on some island.

This is exactly the point. Who are you, or your organization, to presume to tell us what would make us lose God's friendship?

We, Jehovah's Witnesses don't try to change who people are, rather , we try to give them the hope of a better life

There are quite a few here that would disagree mightily with that statement.

When you become a JW you have to give up non-believing relatives and friends, risk dying of blood loss, lose your career aspirations, shelve college, and follow a myriad of man-made regulations about how you can dress, groom, have (marital) sex, what kind of jobs you can have, what kind of music to listen to, what kind of car to drive, I could go on and on. That's not changing a person? Those are MAN-MADE rules, not "what God requires."

I truly hope you see the real light someday.

Nice shots! It was so good to meet you there. Wow. I couldn't believe I actually met people I knew from cyberland in person... it was like "It's PURPLEV!" How cool is that. I was so honored to march with the lambs, so was my BF Carlos (TG never a JW). It was his voice that was the loudest on the WB11 newscast!

JW's DO eat Blood

why is it that jw's are so big on this no blood thing, yet still eat blood in their meat?

the dubs i know claim to "cook out" the blood, but this in no way meets biblical standards.

in fact the way meat is slaughtered doesn't come close to meeting kosher requirements in the bible.

I can stand for the national anthem if I've already been standing for the flag salute, but I cannot get up for the anthem if I've been sitting down for a while and there was no preceeding flag salute.

I can not have whole blood, but I can have albumin and platelets.

I can't throw my garter at the wedding reception, but my guests are free to get as smashed as they want.

There must be two witnesses to sexual molestation.

I am considered spiritually weak if I have a 2-door car.

heres a story of what happened to me at a district convention this year.. an unbaptised publisher and i travelled to wolverhampton district convention in england.

this wasnt our district but id been on holiday and had missed my own district convention (how unspiritual of me).

so me and this friend decided to go to this convention and was also hoping to meet a friend there.. on the saturday morning we were delayed in traffic and we eventually arrived at 11.30am, paid our 3 for parking (i wonder if they had the use of car parks for free?

Still blaming the victim. It's always everyone else's fault but the GB. It's the molestee that's to blame, not the molester. It's not the speaker's fault, we're not listening correctly. My personal fave: We NEVER said it was 1975. You all leapt to conclusions. Well, smack my hand!

Feild service and answering

i was wondering how you all felt about feild service.. i didn't like it all all,i would have minor anixety attacks and sweaty palms before i went door to door.

i would have a hard time taking a door,so one time,my loving "sister" left me standing at door by myself.i remeber being "happy".

i was very uncomfortable going to peoples door and trying to force religion on them,when they didn't want it.i only went out because it was imbedded in my mind that i had to go door to door to save peoples lives.i didn't want to have blood on my hands of the people i may have helped save with god's words.. with the answering,i almost passed out...lol..i used to be painfully shy.when i didn't answer enough,i would be judged as not being spiritually(sp)strong.the woman i was studing with would try to raise my hand up.the way i looked at it there was no accepting of who you were...had to be like the social butterflies to be accepted.now thats what i call love.

I hated it. I hated it. I hated it.

Especially when younger... I had flat feet and could only walk about 1/2 hr at a time. I remember crying and telling my mother how much my feet hurt and begging to stop but she wouldn't... we had to stay out at least an hour to make the "time."

My poor footsies would swell up and throb with pain the rest of the day. Even after they got me the steel arches and orthopedic shoes, it hurt even worse to walk but she made me do it anyway, and wouldn't let me take the steel arches out.

Let's not even talk about the days she dragged me out in subzero (well, it FELT that way anyway) temperatures. I'd lose all feeling in my toes and fingers even with thick socks and gloves.

And I got bit by a dog, and chased down the street, and screamed at a lot. One time we were working the projects and these little kids invited me in and there was the mother almost passed out drunk and the kids were hungry and all I did was try to talk to the mother and give her magazines.

No, I'm not bitter.
