What were your favorite assembly foods?
by NoRegrets inso i'm young enough to not remember having hot prepared meals at assemblies, but heard all about it from my parents and the like.
but what i do remember were all of the cold sandwiches and institutional snacks and soda.
remember the food tickets we started to use?

Discipline or child abuse? Still going on in the hall?
by Pickler indoes anyone else remember all the discipline of children at the meetings?
i was just thinking how i never see anyone physically punish their children anymore.
growing up attending meetings there was a constant stream of children being taken out & hit, as well as all the whispered threats, arm squeezing, pinching etc.

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but I think it depends on where you go. I have only been out for two years and saw this still going on when I left. Not so much when we would go to other parts of the country to visit. I watched a little boy who had the best smile ever become so abused that his smile vanished. Another sister was in the bathroom crying one day because she had heard the mother come in and beat him for wearing the wrong socks. I am not saying that this abuse would not have occured outside the hall, it probably would have, but being at the meetings definately puts demand on children to behave like adults. I feel ashamed that I did not go to the proper authorities with that particular person. I would still call social services to this day if I could only remember her name.I called an elder( i told him I would have called the police if we weren't at the KH when it happened) who told me I had to address the mom myself and long after that spoke to another elder who I do believe spoke to the mother but who knows? I cringe now to think of all the children expected to keep this schedule and be well behaved. The hall I went to when I was a kid had all kinds of paddles and such in the back. Thankfully my parents were not very physical with me, they were new witnesses when I was born and prior to being witnesses did not believe in spanking (my mom even wrote a college paper on it) But by the time my little brother came along they had been indoctrinated enough to be quite physical with him. Another sister from my recent hall had told me that she had to tell her husband to stop using belts on their boys because she felt it was too much, another one I saw leave a mark through a diaper with a spoon on her son (this was in her home, not the hall). Anyway when we were in we were never real physical with our kids, I wanted them to like the hall, but even had an elder apologize to me for talking about our kids behind our back...we know people disapproved and what I can't get over is we were still way too hard on them, expecting so much out of just babies..This is one issue I am most relieved about. It is so hard to try to be a good parent and be fair and balanced away from all of it but while in there was this pressure to make them conform to a programming effort that is for adults, it just left so much room for them to not live up to it, I remember being so frustrated with them for not behaving and of course there are reasons now that I become frustrated with my kids but definately less opportunity for me to demand something of them they are not capable of doing. My older brother who is still an elder has shown that there is some balance to it now when I told him about what I was witnessing he told me about a talk he gives where he talks about the "rod" in that scripture being the same "rod" that a sheperd uses when herding sheep and the point in the talk brings out that shepards Never beat their sheep, that they are known for being gentle. This makes me feel that the mentality has likely shifted for the better in the last 20 years or so but its not better for everyone everywhere.

If you think they will ask you to a JC.....Completely avoid contact. The elders book states to never leave an invitation to a JC on an answering machine. We did not take calls, we did not answer our door. When the certified mail slip came in the mail, we never even took it out of the box, much less sign for it....If you don't sign for it..they send it back...then the elders book says to let the matter stay in abeyance (leave it alone) and that is what happened. Then we moved. A lot of people don't realize they can't call you to a JC if they don't make personal contact with you, and they can't ask your wife without asking you too.

what takes away salvation
by jhine ini am certain that the watchtower society is of the devil , they tell so many lies to cover up their false doctrines and satan is the father of all lies .
so logically somewhere in those false doctrines there is something that prevents the rank and file from receiving salvation as satan works so hard to keep them in "the truth " does anyone else agree with that statement ?
if so, what is it in their teaching that keeps them from the free gift of salvation that comes by the grace of god alone ?

"and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world." (1 Jn. 2:2)
"For there is one God and one mediator between God mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed at the proper time" 1 Tim 2:5,6
There are others like this that lead me to believe, as a Christian, that salvation is promised to everyone, regardless of doctrine or even religious or non religious affiliation. It doesn't say that Jesus died for all Christians or all True Christians or everyone who has the doctrine Right...It says "the whole world" and "all people"

How many went from christian to something else?
by Satanus ini noticed some posters who used to argue along christian lines, but don't do so, anymore.
granted, it's a tough line to keep to on this forum.
i would be interested to hear (read) of people who came here as believers, and then transitioned to unbeliever, and the reasons for that.

I visit this sight frequently but never post. I am a christian. I don't come here to defend my faith and I don't come here to have my beliefs manipulated by others. One thing I have found freedom in since I made my exit is that belief is personal. I don't have to convince anyone I know best and I don't have to agree with everything that is shoved at me. When we are part of the organization we always feel that there has to be a uniformity of belief. I see a lot of people that leave that are still trying to convince everyone that they have the "truth" even though what they regard to be true is opposite of what they used to believe they are still trying to convince everyone that they are now right and those with other perspectives/beliefs/convictions/or faiths are wrong. Even though it is against my nature, as I was a born-in, I have tried to move on from that and try not to be defensive or pretend like I know it all or have it all figured out and try to stay out of conversations that will make people want to argue with me about why they had it all wrong all their life and now they have some special insight and have it all figured out...to me it is all the same as before just with a different agenda.

CONVENTION FALSE INFORMATION - STOP IT BROTHERS!
by The Searcher inwe are always urged to "make sure of all things", namely, that anything we preach or teach is verifiable and true.
especially when we are referring to the bible.. at our convention, two things which came from the platform made me cringe, especially as one of the statements came from a regular and experienced convention speaker.
first; "over a quarter of a million new brothers and sisters were baptized last year - doesn't this show love on jehovah's part that he is allowing time for such ones to get to know him".

Ok..so I have been a lurker on here for at least a year. I have never responded to a thread that I can recall. But I am definately going to take this one to heart and read the scriptures about Korah. My husband and I (and our 3 young ones) faded a little more than a year ago. My elder pioneer older brother sent me a 13 page letter back in August and a good portion of those 13 type written pages compared me to Korah...he meant well....but hasn't spoken to me outside of one occasion since he wrote me the letter. I read the scriptures at the time but I am now interested in revisiting those versus.
