420/Marijuana/Mary Jane - What Is The Society's Stance Now That It's Legal In Two States?

sorry if it's already been discussed (i did do a search and did not see anything recent) here on the board.

now that 420 has been legalized in washington and colorado, what is the society's stance on this?

is it viewed the same as alcohol, taken in moderation?

My brother, who is an elder, and back when I was still in, told me that it is acceptable for a witness to ingest marajuanna if prescribed for medicinal use, but Not Ok to smoke it. This seemed to be the case when a friend of mine, who is out, his Grandfather started legally smoking it for pain, he is in his 90s, and the brothers councelled him against it. It was actually what woke his grandfather up to the silliness of it all and his grandfather celebrated his first Bday at the age of 96.

very similar wording that my friends used with me.....specfically eeerie was one who said "our thoughts are not the same".... I addressed that head on...why would we need to think all the same things? thats crazy

JW CHILDREN GET PRESENTS ALL THROUGH THE YEAR. REALLY?????

is it really true that jw children get gifts 'all through the year', not just for christmas and birthdays like non- jw kids?

as stingy as most jws are, i find that very hard to believe.

plus the childhood magic of christmas and birthdays is totally absent in jw households.

We recieved presents as kids and I didn't feel deprived. Also once I had my own kids ( we have 4) we did gift giving thoughout the year...our anniversary was the big one but other times too. Its not about the presents though. We have just had our second Christmas and everyone has had 2 birthdays....its about the excitement, the spirit of Christmas, they are so thoughtful to eachother and absolutely excited. They all love school too and school has been so much more fun and exciting....my oldest still gets a little teary eyed when she remembers sitting out of all the fun Kindergarten projects (she is 9) :( , they participated in a christmas concert and it was so so cute....we walked around town looking at lights and singing christmas songs....all these things I never got to do....everything is so pretty and happy and we get to be a part of it, instead of sitting on the sidelines critisizing people calling them greedy or saying that they live from holiday to holiday with nothing else to live for......so so judgemental and wrong...its just not true...its about all the opposite things we said they were about. I am also so happy to observe their birthdays...nothing extravagent....but a special day just for them....the days my kids were born were the happiest days of my whole life....why wouldn't you celebrate the happiest days of your life? My 2 cents

i was wondering how helpful telephone social groups would be?

i have heard that people feel staying on jwn to long causes them to feel depression.

is it possible that being in front of a computer to often can make one feel depressed?

It sounds like a good idea...and I totally understand why it would be suggested. I think that its nice you would suggest something like this after only a short time on the forum.....nothing wrong with it at all....and yes you can "hear" or "read" lots of stuff without being an active member on this forum....exiting affects all of us in crazy ways...most of us need to work through it but sometimes even though forums like this can be helpful it forces a lot of people to deal with unpleasant realizations of what we were all a part of...its also confusing to try to figure out what you believe now....it can make you sad or depressed...and having alternate outlets really helps...

he runs disability arts online (dao) a web portal for disabled artists which reviews and showcases their work.. in hambrook's latest autobiographical project, knitting time, he recalls being brought up by a jehovah's witness mother who was mentally ill. she, hambrook and the other jehovah's witnesses they knew, believed that the world was due to end in 1975. this collection of illustrated poetry, and the accompanying art exhibition, explore the psychosis and grief he experienced as a result.. why did you call it knitting time?.
