If they have to write an annual letter saying "nobody is forcing you to do anything, you are totally doing all of this of your own free will" then clearly they are forcing you to do things. It's like a waitress bringing your plate to the table and the first thing she says (with a smile) is that nobody spit in your food. Then why are you even bringing it up?? If you have to specifically state "The elders we put in charge aren't trying to control you, they are just 'helping' you do god's will" then they are in fact controlling you. Otherwise it wouldn't even be an issue for discussion. This reads like cult propaganda. - JonathonH

How satisfying it is to do something because we want to do it instead of being forced to do it ! Jehovah invites us to do what is good out of love.

Wait a damn minute!!??? That is exactly what you are doing. You are holding millions of family's hostage by telling them that if you leave then you die a horrible bloody death at Armegedden and if that isn't enough the rest of your family must shun you till this happens. This is just fear and manipulation in style of hostage takers in a bank robbery.

I felt like i had been lobotimized by the end of those DCs. I kept hoping for something intellectualy stimulating but instead got education bashing from some country bumkin with an 8th grade education saying jehovahs education is the best. Barf!!!!

was actually looking into this and so did a search to see what was already talked about, found the below quote on another thread after finding it on the cd for myself...stunning to me as i still thought of neanderthal man as a hairy monkey man or a complete fabrication, and here is what appears to be a twist from the wt that i never realized all my years in.. what i found most interesting was the bolded section (by me).

Just remember that science has no need to bend the truth or cover up the facts. Cults on the other hand have to censor, trick, punish and forbide info in order to protect a carefully concieved lie.

It's very intellectually deadening to ever think that you have all the answers. I used to hear JW's say that worldy's wouldn't accept the "truth" because they couldn't accept a simple explanation. Life is complex and therefore has no catch all answer period!

Is anyone here hooked on Downton Abbey?

my wife got me started watching this show last year.

we've downloaded the previous seasons on netflix and have found it to be really well done.

the story line, scenery,costumes,old cars and compelling characters have us hooked.

for instance, producing custom pamplets or tracts discussing the culture and demands of being a jehovahs witness.

the doctrines and history explained in a fatual manner so that people can weigh the pros and the cons prior to accepting a bible study?
