If I may, you're going to lose this issue. Just the battle, mind you, not sure about the war.
I love the idea. It needs to be done, but it wont be done today. As of my writing this, the petition's already been up for around 10 days and only has 53 out of the 25,000 necessary signatures. Unless there is some kind of boom advertising this message, it won't meet the cutoff date, unfortunately.
Cults hid behind theocratic beliefs to keep the money they con people out of. It's a shame. In the WTS' case, they'll argue it as unconstitutional since they can angle the Scriptures any way they need to. See, recognized members need to believe the current doctrine, otherwise, they can't claim tax exempt. After all, exempt status comes from the size of the congregation and if the WTS was trying to claim Catholics as WTS followers, it'd be fraud.
So they shun (disfellowship). When you are disfellowshipped, you are no longer one of the congregation, and they have the paperwork to prove it. This is a major reasoning in why those who disassociate are put in the same regard as the disfellowshipped ones. The major reason disassociated people need to write a formal letter to be recognized as such.
If there was no paperwork, someone calling themself a Jehovah's Witness who believed different doctrine could shift their whole exempt status. This is where faders are most prominent. Unfortunately, if any faders came forward, the WTS would immediately disfellowship them under grounds of Apostacy or some crap like that, long before the motion to investigate the Society's claim ever begins.
________________
You need to advertise wherever you can. The next petition to remove exempt status from cults needs to be a consuming movement. You'd need to identify yourself as a Christian to every person you introduce this petition to so they can understand you're aiming specifically at radical fundamentalist cults. Not mainstream religion.
Facebook, twitterbombing with well-organized hashtags, flyers, etc. Go to Kinkos or some copy store and make a petition yourself. Go door to door with it. This cannot be won easily with everyone staying home.
You're essentially asking people to move a mountain with a puppy and a sled. You need to equip people with the right tools and motivation and THEN you'll get your 25,000 signatures. But not this time. You need to prepare that this time is a losing battle. Prepare for the loss and move on to prepping the next battle.

Could anyone take up Christopher Hitchens Job?
by heavenlyfather incan anyone take up hitchen's job and make it a carrer?.
publicly criticising religion and debating religion apologetics.
does anyone have that kind of passion?..

I'll gladly take up the role Hitchens left open. There are scores of people with valid anti-religion points, but few can put them together the way the world needs.

World Could End Soon (Oh, Crap)
by metatron ini hate gloom and doom but sadly..... http://www.latimes.com/news/science/la-sci-solar-storms-20120505,0,6214500.story?page=2&sc=7369001384796169482.
this is no laughing matter.
a major cme or flare could wipe out civilization by destroying power grids everywhere.. this is why i get so angry about global warming hysteria - there are far more serious threats that could emerge in months, not decades ahead.. i also understand that a small asteroid is scheduled to come breathtakingly close to hitting earth in two years.

Mine has you all beat! There's a gas in the air all around the world that causes your skin cells to deteriorate when you breath it in. It will eventually kill you after long, unavoidable exposure to it.
It's called OXYGEN!
We're all going to die at one moment or another. Could be alone or en masse. Could be from oxygen or a gamma wave.
No reason to go all panicky about it.

The Beast-Tower #5: The Apostates--Earth's Vilest Liars!
by sd-7 intoday, many moviegoers will entertain themselves with a movie called 'the avengers'.
filled with violent content, spiritism, and demonic overtones, it is hardly any surprise that those who are affected by 'the spirit of the world' will be drawn to its themes.

The current lineup of Marvel heroes is that of the Ultimate Marvel lineup. Nick Fury was made a black man in the new wave to reflect the modern demographic from reality in the comic book universe. He originally looked like a persian pimp in his first apprearance in Ultimate Marvel, including hair, but they decided to revamp him to look like Samuel L. Jackson, a man who sweats badassery.

It's been almost a year and we're still here. The human population is getting bigger. The number of shows on basic cable is getting bigger. The Society is getting smaller. Belief in an Abrahamic God is getting smaller.
But we're still here.
Kinda untimely.

I like new people. They're interesting. SD7, you've got a knack for this. Make a National Lampoon version of the Watchtower Magazine, or something.

The Idiocies of 1975 Still Have Hold Over a 28 Year Old
by okage inif any of us forgot just how thick the average jehovah's witness can be, here's a little story.. my friend, a 28 year old jw, got into an accident about a year ago.
she hit a horse and killed it, wrecking her car.
she told everyone she knew that it was pitch black and she couldn't see the horse until the last second.

@slimboyfat the 1975 message telling Witnesses to ignore all personal issues and financial liabilities because the end is so close, no one's going to have time to ask you about it. The current doctrine of "ignore higher education and a successful job because the end is so damn close" (June Watchtower, I believe) is highly reflective of the 1975 propaganda. She's ignoring her legal responsibilities because she believes the end will be here before the case is decided.

lmao @Mr. Falcon My wife's mother (a df'd JW) does the tupperware, tastefully simple things. She also does avon and some company that sells non-stick pots and pans. Anything to make a buck. She chastizes me for having an advanced computer education then asks any of her friends if they want a bowl shaped like a banana. Should I really wonder which end of the stick I got?

Question for you atheists...
by MrFreeze inor agnostics too.
are you open about your beliefs (or lack thereof i should say)?
when people talk about anything religious, do you mention that you don't believe in god?
-
okage
@Shawn: You're entitled to disagree. In my experience with people, their beliefs are something they are willing to make and lose friends over. Start and lose a job over. As with Witnesses, devout Catholics, Davidians, Baptists, Jews, etc., people are willing to die and/or kill for those beliefs.
The bible is riddled with account after account of people mudering and slaughtering in the name of their beliefs.
Clearest example: if you're an atheist, and the United States government said you HAD to worship the Abrahamic god or go to jail. This means going at least three days a week to church.
You going to stay quiet? The VERY moment you complain about it, you prove the idea "you're beliefs are your life." Cuz if they aren't why would you complain about someone ordering you to believe something else?
Those robots in the Kingdom Halls, their belief is their life. Doesn't mean it's a good or bad belief. Just means what they believe is their life.
Another example: if you knew there was no heaven or hell, no paradise, would it change the path you take in life? If you couldn't be punished after death for your actions, wouldn't you live a little more?
It's not a bold statement I'm making here. It's just common sense.
