As Judge Wopner would say on the TV Program "The People's Court" Did you get a receipt?
If you have receipts, or cancelled cheques/bank statements, why not total them up and send a formal request to WTS asking for a refund due to fraud or "failure to satisfy contractual obligations".
Of course, they will ignore you.
So.....
Assuming the amount is less than, say, $5000, (or assuming you are willing to settle for that) TAKE THEM TO SMALL CLAIMS COURT. It won't cost you much to file, and even if you lose, you win, because they will have to send their lawyer to defend the case (I'm assuming they won't send Ted Jaracz or some useless Bethel Boy). That will cost them time, and TIME = MONEY.
Imagine if hundreds of XJWs did this. It would bury them.
Just make sure you have evidence of a reasonable case (proof of money donated, and reason to get it back) so they can't counter-sue for "deliberately bringing an unmeritorious suit".

New and need a question answered before I post any other questions
by soundbox_guy inokay, first off, let me get this straight...you guys are all witnesses, some all active, some do things all the way right, some don't do things all the way right?
some are by the book but not preachy, and some are witnesses that are rogue and do things their own way?
i just want to know before i post any doubts or concerns or anything because even though i know we're supposed to stay away from places like this on the internet, i don't want what i say somehow getting back to my congregation somehow and next thing you know 4 elders come busting through the door waving "no blood" cards and shouting "freeze, jehovah's witnesses!

soundboxguy, WELCOME.
I would like to point out that your first post (the start of this thread) is a classic example of someone who has had his free expression flattened.
Think about it. You were afraid to express doubt, and ask questions. You felt that doing so could lead to a Judicial Committee (symbolized by the guys with Blood Cards knocking down the door and shouting FREEZE -- very funny visual image, by the way).
In most normal, open groups and organizations, people are free to express doubt, and ask questions.
Seriously, your first post speaks volumes about what is wrong with the group that proudly and foolishly calls themsleves "God's Channel of Communication".
Again, welcome. Protect your anonymity, and you can speak your mind here without fear! -

Does watchtower society support any charity??
by Podiatrist injust wondering, do you know of any?
?.

Quotes
WTS is registered with the gov't as a charity. This is a total fraud, and I hope one day they will get called to account for their deception.
They call their "World Wide Bible Edumakashun Work" the most important charity that can be done, because it give people the chance to live forever (insert hysterical laughter here). Gee, that "charity" looks an awful lot like a publishing empire!
WTS's response to the Tsunami Disater has be preserved here: http://quotes.watchtower.ca/tsunami_relief.htm. You will notice, four days after the disaster, there is no plan other than "helping brothers to buy locally available water". Even that wasn't so much a plan, as it was wishful thinking. If I'd been sitting for four days waiting for money to buy water, I'd probably be dead. Thank Goodnes for the real charities getting in there quickly.
Some have defended WT's (lack of) response by saying "WT is not a charity". Please see my first paragraph, above.

Stickers on magazines
by Apostanator inwhenever i would see a watchtower or awake at the laundromat, i used to just rip them up and throw them away.
but now i carry labels on me that have been printed off my computer and stick them on the mags.
i have several types that are printed with such sayings as ( " this is a cult " included with freeminds website ) and ( "jehovah's witnesses cover-up child rape and abuse " included with silent lambs website ) i feel this is more successful as the magazine cannot be picked up without having the sticker in your face.

Just stopping in to say THANK YOU to everyone for all your support. This really is a group effort, and I am humbled and gratified. It is not *my* site, but *OUR* site we are protecting.
Sheesh, I never would have thought I'd see the day that I was working together with a diverse, far-flung group, to protect the expression Watch Tower Society's publications. Somewhat ironic, methinks.
It seems that the C.P. who telephone interviewed me last week, have decided to not run with the story; it is not newsworthy now that the site has been restored. Did you hear that Watch Tower Drones???? If you take the site down (again), this issue becomes newsworthy. Newsworthy means that everyone, even people that don't give a tinker's cuss about WT & JWs, will hear about your craziness -- on the national news. As it is, right now, only those that seek it out on the internet (i.e. those that need and want to know) will find the skeletons in your closet. You make the call: *some* people know your secrets, or *everyone* knows your secrets. The choice is yours.

Studying the new "Keep on the Watch!" brochure - Contradictions on page 18?
by ozziepost init's a while since i reviewed the publications that dubs use on their "home bible studies", so the release of a new brochure gives us that opportunity again!.
dubs will be using the "keep on the watch!
" brochure to "invite" the lapsed, as well as the recently interested ones to commit themselves to "god's earthly organisation".. the trouble is, that the writing department have used this glossy brochure to misrepresent the 'real' truth.. page 18 shows a picture of a happy social gathering in "the new system".

Plastic Chairs?
That is just the tip of the iceberg!
Who is going to run the cotton mills to produce all those beautiful pants, shirts, and dresses? Who will produce the dies used in same?
Won't everyone be busy building their own homes and producing their own food? Who will have time for Industrial production of cloth, let alone plastic chairs? How will the power plants function without pollution? If Jahoobee will provide advanced scrubbers to remove pollution, then who will install that technology, the Window Washers or the Bank Cleaners? (I'd volunteer my personal engineering skills, but I don't think they expect I'll be there!)
WTS's "New World" is pictured as a Carribean Vacation, but in fact if you think about the situation is would be closer to the Iron Age. Their graphics don't match the reality of the situation.
As long as I'm on this rant: how will earthquakes stop?
How Earth Works 101- Most of earth consists of flowing, melted rock, called magma.
- The continents are just thin crusts of "solidified" (i.e. non-melted) rock, but they are floating around on that magma -- like a skin on top of a hearty soup. As they float around and scrape against each other, they cause earthquakes
- The convective flow of the magma creates a magnetic field and causes the "North Pole" (because magma contains Iron, and the moving iron causes the field).
- (here is where this gets interesting) The magnetic field protects the earth's atmoshphere from the Solar Winds. Without the magnetic field, the Solar Wind would slowly but surely evaporate our atmosphere off into space.
- So.... Stopping earthquakes would mean the core of the earth cooled and solidified
- ... but that would mean that there would be no manetic field, i.e. no North Pole
- ... and that would mean the certain loss of our atmosphere
- ... and that would mean the complete loss of all forms of life on the planet

"Theocratic Warfare" - An Apostate Strategy?
by slimboyfat inwho here had ever heard of this so-called 'doctrine' of "theocratic warfare" when you were a jehovah's witness?
who has not heard of the so-called doctrine now that you are an apostate?
so why have witnesses never heard of 'doctrine', yet apostates seem to promote it as the last word on witness standards of honesty, integrity and decency?

If you check out the "LIE" page on my website (Lie Definition) you will note that the most recent entry is the Insight book. When was that publish, hhhmmm????
When I was a JW, I knew about SW.
Yes, most (all?) of the examples given involve either Nazis or hiding lit. in countries under ban.
But here is the problem, IMO. It would be more correct to simply say "yes, it was a lie, but they had too... and lies to save yourself from Nazis are OK, god won't punish you for that kind of lie"
But they don't say that. Instead, they change the very definition of a lie, and then say, in effect, "no lie ever occured".
The problem is this new definition has no restrictions on it, other than the subjective feeling of the one telling the non-truth. IOW, If you don't think I am "entitled" to truthful info, then you can lie to me... and it isn't a lie, so god won't hate you. I don't have to be a Nazi, I don't have to be a killer, I don't have to looking for your literature so I can take it away. All that is required is for you to SUBJECTIVELY FEEL that I don't have a right to the truth, in YOUR opinion.
Are you honestly saying you're not aware of a Watchtower instructional manual that coaches people on how to testify in court at child custody hearings? It instructs the children that when asked about their future, the should "not think they are a part at an assembly and focus on pioneering or the paradise" but rather say that they want to learn a skill and provide for their family. IOW, it encourages a "sin of ommission". And if you don't see a problem with this type of thing, fine. I'm certain that most people (both worldings and eJWs alike) do see the problem.
(Put the shoe on the other foot: imagine if a similar doc from the Catholics instructed a child, when testifying, when asked about their hopes for eternity, to "not think they are in sunday school and mention the threat of eternal hellfire damnation; rather they should focus on their desire to be with their family.)
Here are some things I "lied" about while a JW (of course, at the time, I felt it wasn't a lie because those hearing me didn't have a right to the truth -- in some case, even elders).- I was happy as a JW (in fact, I was not!)
- I really enjoyed knocking on strangers door to give them a message of GOOD NEWS they would probably be killed by god real soon now (I did this work, but I NEVER enjoyed it; it was nerve wracking, embarrassing, and mentally and physically tiring)
- I was a bible student. (in fact, I was a watchtower student. I never read the bible, other than looking up some scriptures here and there. But I still told people I met in Field Service I was a bible student. I have learned MUCH more about the bible and have studied it MUCH more since I left JWs)
- I wanted to get baptised and felt a calling and desire to be part of Jahs organization (in fact, I simply felt pressured to do what others perceived as the right thing for me. Like an arranged marriage, I simply went along hoping that if enough time passed, I would learn to love)
~Quotes, of the "if I lie now, I'm man enough to CALL it a lie" class
P.S. When I show the WT definition of "lie" to non-JW friends, they immediately recognize the potential for abuse and are shocked.
