Hi Sparks,
Sorry I'm coming to the party late here. Sounds like you did fine, though.
My only suggestion would have been to attempt to video/audio record the conversation. It is always good for a laugh, and you can usually catch them in lies without too much trouble, and then you have the proof they are liars.
Before giving them the CD-ROM, you should have used the tactic they use when dispensing literature: "We will happily give this to you if you will read it. If you are not going to read it, please don't take it just to make me happy. I would rather give it to someone who really thirsts for truth and will read it."

Behemoth
by peacefulpete ini'll not pretend to be as thorough as leolaia in discussing ancient mythology, but i felt it might be of interest to some to learn more about the monster behemoth from job 40. recently leolaia did a bang-up job providing a mythological background for the leviathan imagery in job and a number of other places.
the partner of leviathan is behemoth.
first it must recognized that no literal creature is being described there.

What are you talking about?
Everyone *KNOWS* that Behemoth is to be interpreted as a Railway Locomotive (q.v. http://quotes.watchtower.ca/leviathan.htm).
Tsk, tsk. You are not keeping in step with the spiritual food provided!!! Tsk Tsk ;) -

Does the faithful slave exist?
by XQsThaiPoes ini have known a few anointed and a few bethlites.
after researching pubilcations and the watchtower websites i belife the faithful slave does not exist in a tangible form and is a ghostwriter for the entire org.
everything is subcontracted from mostly the great crowd now billed as corespondants.

I'll take it one step furhter: the "Slave Class" i.e. "remnant" never, EVER, at ANY TIME, were part of the "dispensation of spiritual food".
No matter how far back you go in WitchPower history, there was always a *CLAIM* that the "remnant" were revealing spiritual truths, but the fact is only those that were in Brooklyn Bethel actual wrote any articles.
We had an "annointed" in our KH when I was a kid; he got his "spiritual truth" the same way the rest of us Jonadab-sheep got it: twice a month in the Watchtower magazine.
The doctrine that the remnant of annointed are coordinated in their ministry to the other sheep is a lie and a sham. Not surprising, really, since "Religion is a Snare and a Racket"!!!! -

Big Tex & cruzanheart: 1, Elders: 0
by cruzanheart inso it's a beautiful saturday morning in murphy, texas -- big tex was about to go to home depot and i was about to start weeding the garden when we looked out front and there was a nondescript 4-door sedan parked in front of our house.
the two guys in it weren't getting out, so we thought "uh-oh.
" i asked again, "why didn't you come and visit me then?

Country Guy, I was thinking the exact same thing! Please tell me you recorded this!
It would make the start of a great new section at Quotes: "Recording of Elders on Shepherding Calls"
I was laughing when I read this! Beautifully played. Esp. the way they jumpted right to the "Do you believe...." question. GaryBus would be proud!
Poor elders, after years of "bible training" in how to handle "objections in the field" they finally met something they were unprepared for: an informed, intelligen, prepared couple!
Good on you!!!!! -

WT Literature . . . . How important is it?
by garybuss inwt literature, how important is it?
now they have the ability to just upload the current issues on their web site and the individuals could just download then in pdf format and print them out and then underline the answers to all questions asked in red pencil.
no need to print millions.

I'm reminded of a scene in the movie "The Jerk" starring Steve Martin; wherein he is working as a Carnival Weight/Age guesser.
He slaps his head in the sudden realization: "Oh.... so its a profit deal, huh?" -

This story goes back about 3 or 4 weeks, so it predates the letter on the UN.org website, but it still may be informative.
My buddy Beans has a JW colleague at work (let's call him "Dub"). Dub is the only, um, Dub in his family, he self converted in his teans or early 20s.
Beans mentioned the UN thing to him a few weeks ago (note: Beans was "buying out the opportune time", just like Apostle Paul would have. We can all learn from Bean's excellent example; that's why he's a District Overbeer).
Dub's initial reaction: "That's all lies, man".
Beans indicated that proof was available on the website (including, among other sources, http://quotes.watchtower.ca/united_nations.htm) and suggested that Dub go check it out and see if it was indeed "all lies".
After a very disturbing visit to our Quotes website, Dub TELEPHONED BETHEL CANADA to ask them if it was true. (Note, this may not be the best place to call, since it was Brooklyn Bethel, not Bethel Canada, that associated with the UN, and Bethel Canada probably has "plausible deniability" on this issue.
After being transferred around a bit, Bethel Canada's response to Dub: "No, that's all lies, man".
But Dub had already seen too much, and pressed the issue, and asked them to explain away some of the evidence he had seen. After a lengthy on-hold pause, the Bethelite on the phone flip-flopped, and Dub was finally (reluctantly) fed the "Library Card" excuse.
What does this tell us?
(1) Those at Bethel answering questions either (a) don't know or (b) will actually lie about it (Spiritual Warfare, anyone?)
(2) Only those persistent in their enquireies will get so much as the lamo "Library Card" excuse.
(3) It might be good to pre-empt the library card excuse by dealing with it before the Watchtower can use it. You will look like a mind-reader, able to predict the Watchtower's excuse! This will give you credibility, and give you the opportunnity to point out how truly weak that excuse is. -

Need Input! Overcoming Active JW Objections re: Letter on UN Website
by imallgrowedup inthe letter the un posted on their site regarding the wt affiliation with the un is great news!
kudos to everyone who made this possible by taking the time to write the un!
although most on jwd see this as a big victory, most have expressed that there will probably be many active jw's who will find it suspicious or will turn a blind eye.

Objection (My Mother actually used this): "Well, if it's true, that's the biggest BOO BOO I've ever heard of.
Response: (Exasperated sigh upon realizing how ready Mom is "ignore the rafter in her own eye, while busily ridiculing the splinter in other's eyes)
OK, now for real...
Response:That violates the scriptural principle of "a house divided can not stand". The UN has been identifed as an agent of Satan, not an agent of Jehovah.
Response: A brother is seen leaving a legal (in Nevada) brothel, i.e. a house of prostitution. There is a sign on the building "LEGAL BROTHEL. HAVE SEX HERE. GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS". Brothers have been warned for years to stay away from that house of ill-repute. But then... an elder is seen leaving the place, and eye witnesses indicate he was in there for quite some time (say, nine years, whoops, I mean nine hours). Would anyone believe him if he said:
(a) I was tricked to go in there, I thought it was just a bar! Damn those tricksters!
(b) It became a brothel while I was inside. When I entered, it was just a bar. When I went in there, 9 hours ago, there was nothing wrong with going in there.
(c) Of COURSE its a brothel. I went in there to witness to the ladies and gentlemen inside. It is the only way to reach them with the Kingdom message. I call is spiritual warfare. Sometimes I have to have sex with the women, but that is still OK, because it is spirtitual warfare! Oh, and I wanted to keep it secret and not tell anyone because...... um..... they might be confused by my spiritual warfare.... yeah, that's the ticket!
Response: see previous point. Add: if that were the case, then why stop the NGO association when it becomes public knowledge? The war is still going on, and whatever could be gained by having NGO association could continue right up until the UN decides to dissassociate the Watchtower. If it was such a good, clever, strategy, why did the Watchtower terminate it earlier than necessary? Sorry, that one doesn't pass the smell test.
Response: In other words, I conspiracy of just a few rogue individuals working within a large organization. Possible (although unlikely). Easy to determine: contact the UN yourself. Tell them that one of their web dudes has posted some libellous
information. See how fast they remove it (if indeed they DO remove it). Then phone Watchtower Legal Dept. and tell them that the
UN has published (or allowed some rogue employees to publish) libellous information on their website defaming the Society. No, seriously, do this if you really think its the work of some small group of ne'er-do-wells.
Response: Yes, I suspect they thought they had a good reason, and on behalf of thousands of concerned people, I'd like to hear what it is. So far the Society hasn't provided and GOOD reasons, only lame ones. Please, help me to find out what their GOOD reason was. Clearly, the library excuse is neither good nor a reason.
Response: This violates the biblical principal to "flee from her, if you do not want to partake in her sins". It is also a non-sequitor when compared with decades of Watchtower information, which commands people to NOT simply sit idly by as part of an organization which has sided with Satan and against Jehovah. Furthermore, this action clearly identifies Watchtower as NOT truly god's wife-like organization.
Response: Please elaborate on this. How can an alliance with the wild beast of revelation, the same one that has that whore false relgion riding its back and cooing sweet names, how can this alliance be good? It would be like saying an alliance with the Nazi's would be good, even if it meant you agreed that you stood for the same principles of the Nazi party (including Third Reich's Final Solution, etc.). How could this ever be a good thing? How could it NOT be a violation of NEUTRALITY?
Response: This doesn't make sense at so many levels. It's not Watchtower's place to "bring Armageddon closer". Jehovah has his own time. It will not change becuase of the actions of any man, men, or organization. 2nd, why would they want to bring it closer? There are still a lot of people that haven't received "the message", and if you brought the end before they heard, that wouldn't be fair. (BTW, I include in that list of "people who don't know JWs message" pretty much everyone, even those who have had JWs knock on their doors for years; my informal poll of my friends indicates that they have NO IDEA what JWs message is, despite seeing them at their doorstop several times per year, and even taking magazine -- the "Ministry" is just that ineffective. But I digress). Ignoring my first two points, please explain how, HOW, would this happen? What could the Watchtower do, as an NGO, to the UN, or have the UN do to the Watchtower as an NGO, that would possible change the timing of Revelation? (Wait for response; if there is one, it will be pretty far-fetched and non-sensicial. Then ask, "Do you really think that Jehovah directed this organization to do that, and if he did, why then did Watchtower quit the UN -- after word got out? -
