Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread.
Hard to say exactly when was my "last" meeting. I remember I went to hear the announcements on a Tuesday night hoping to hear my "DF/DA announcement" but never heard it -- my release was denied.
I remember my last Circuit Assembly. I was already mentall free; had read Penton's Apoc.Delayed. When the speaker (Bro. Humpries) asked the audience Are we thankful for the spiritual food Jehvoah God has provided??? and simultaneously raised up the latest book that had been released the previous summer.
Clearly, he equated this book with instruction directly from God.
This was the same concern I had raised with my good friend only weeks earlier. So I looked over at him and gave him a "I told you so" look. He looked back with a "disgusted" look.
Later he said "Boy, I just KNEW you were going to misunderstand when he said that".
The level of DoubleThink really hit home for me then. It was great that my last CA had such a strong message!!!

by greendawn inwhen you finally came to the jw meeting that you knew was your last one, what were your thoughts, feelings or actions?
.
my last was the summer convent of 1986. i stood there until everyone left and then i took a picture with my new camera of the empty stadium, the wish being that the wts would collapse and never fill up again stadiums with people.

Elephants conditioned from early age to be chained to post and not leave even when strong enough
=============
No WAY! They actually used this analogy? Don't they know that this analogy is, in my experience, used by CULT EXPERTS to explain HOW CULTS WORK?????
I have seen it used thusly: when a cult leader says "anyone is free to leave [the cult]" it is analogous to the elephant owner saying "this elephant is free (physically strong enough) to leave. That fact that it stays and works proves that it likes working here".
Yes, cult victims, like strong elephants, ARE physically able to leave, but the MENTAL CHAINS they have learned from years of conditioning are too strong.
Man, have JWs turned this powerful anti-cult analogy into something to be PROUD OF???? How stupid!!!
Next they will be saying they are proud when their children die after refusing a blood transfusion.... oh, wait a minute...

website that will shatter everything about the Jehovahs Witnesses
by watchmanofephraim inhttp://watchmanofephraim.tripod.com/
go to this website, take a little time to read what is on it, and it will tell that eveything that the witnesse have been doing since the very day they started has had nothing to do with the god of israel.
so dont feel anyway bad when any of you leave this lieing institute, they are responsible for more spiritual and literal deaths on this earth than any of the orginisations they slag off.

I certaintly do not care a great deal about web desighn i am a singer songwriter and do not have the time..
=============
That is fine, but then why bother even trying to create a web page? A poorly designed, poorly laid out web page rarely communicates anything helpful -- actually, this applies to much more than web pages: letters, memos, etc. It is an unfair world, and most people do equate the quality of the information contained in a web site with the "fit and finish" and organization and appearance and spelling and grammar of the web site.
Seriously, before embarking on a project which entails skill you have admitted you don't have, you should have spent 5 minutes googling and you would quickly have discovered a vast network of detailed, well organized, well presented web sites that follow correct rules of grammar and spelling and deconstruct the myth of JW belief much more soundly than anything you have presented on your web site. Like a bad house in a good neighbourhood, adding the monstrosity of confusion that is your web page to the collection of JW debunking web sites just hurts us all.
Then again, if you spent more than 2 minutes before first posting here, you would not have started off by "preaching to the chior".
Seriously, how would you feel if someone that knew nothing about music and singing, and had a terrible untrained singing voice, insisted on singing loudly on a street corner, because they felt the message of their song was important? As a professional singer/songwriter, you'd probably cringe and wish they would either (a) learn to sing or (b) disappear. With that in mind, I implore you to learn elementary spelling, grammar, and web design.

It appears (right-click, properties) that the pictures we can't see are located in your Hotmail inbox. Would I be correct in guessing that someone emailed them to you?
Obviously, for privacy reasons, it is very, very impossible to link to a picture inside your Hotmail inbox. You'll have to upload it to some other web-accessible location.
BTW, I loved this! Makes me wish I still had a cat. ;) -

Alleymom,
Sorry for not noticing your helpful and detailed response earlier.
I have modified the 607 BCE page as follows: I have combined the tables into one, easy to understand (hopefully!) table, and moved the resulting table to it's own page (because it was too wide to fit on a "regular" quotes page).
As always, I am eager for any further suggestions.

25-year-old elders and 18-year-old ministerial servants
by Gopher inat some point in the 1980's, a good number of younger men were appointed to the position of servants and elders in congregations, at least here in the midwestern usa.
before the 1980's, the required age for elders seemed to be 30, and for ministerial servants 20 (except in rare cases).
perhaps due to a lack of men who were "reaching out", the organization needed to "reach down" and pick out younger men to populate their hierarchy.

Do Jehovah's Witnesses Have The Reputation THEY Think They Have?
by minimus inwitnesses believe they are special.
the publications give many examples of how wonderful a witness was viewed upon by a "worldly" person.
kms tell of how so many praise the witnesses for being so "different".....what would you say is the real way people view jws??

It has been my experience, both while "in" and now I'm "out", that people know almost nothing about JWs.
People do NOT know what their "message of good news" is. They have NO IDEA. It is not that they don't understand it, or that they misunderstand it; rather it is that they have NO IDEA about it.
All they know is:- magazine sellers on weekend mornings. Even people who have accepted the mags don't know what they are all about
- ususally misunderstand the blood thing as "no medical treatment of any kind"
- (as already mentiioned) confuse them with SDA and/or LDS, and think that they don't drink any alcohol or coffe
- (I get a kick out of this) think that they don't believe in Jesus Christ (not a surprising mistake considering the way they often ignore JC in facour of an OT style worship)
- Where I used to work, one guy (a salesman, perfect career for a JW!) was known as a JW. He was also known by the rest of the office as the guy most hooked on going to STRIP CLUBS. He went to Strip Clubs more than anyone else; if anyone in the office went, he was there too, not matter what the occaision. I swear, I'm not making this up. People would ask me "I didn't think JWs were allowed to do that. What is up with Sean P.???"
I honestly can't recall anyone saying they know JWs as especially honest and/or trustworthy.
In other words, their ONE BILLION hours per year in "bible education work" should be recognized by efficiency experts as the MOST INEFFECTIVE advertising campaign on Earth. *That* is what they *should* be known for.

Quotes
Blood is risky, very true.
Then again, many medical options are risky. An appendectomy, for example, is risky -- any operation is. The question is: what are the risks associated with the procedure, verses the risks against avoiding the procedure?
This is a question (that SHOULD be) asked by medical personnel everyday -- and I suspect that it is; I think "Risk Management" is formally trained in Med School (but I don't know for sure, I am not a doctor).
My point is this: a team of Medical specialists from a competent facility have decided that the lowest risk, highest reward option is a transfusion. They have convinced a court of law that their recommended course of treatment is less risky and has higher rewards than does the "no transfusion" alternatives offered.
If there was a better course of treatment, a less risky treatment, a treatment with a higher likelyhood of positivie outcome, certainly these trained and expericenced medical professionals would sieze it. But so far, they have no alternatives that they consider equally strong.
True, the psychological impact could be harmful, but (a) that is entirely due to the phantom boogie man implanted by WTS -- that god will see her as sinning against him if she accepts, therefore WTS bears the responsibility for any trauma this causes; and (b) presumably the doctors have considered this when making their recommendations. And yet they still feel that the best course of treatment is the the transfusion.
Finally: compare by analogy playing Blackjack (21). In that game, you play so that the odds (statistics and probability) are in your favour (just like when choosing medical treatment). In that game, if you have say, 19 or 20 showing, you "stand". You never, ever hit when you have 19 or 20 showing. True, it is possible that you could hit and get an "ace" and improve your hand, but it is statistically much more likely that you will "bust" and lose the hand. Of course, you might lose anyway, even standing at 19. There are no guarantees. Nevertheless, you would be a reckless fool to hit when you have 19 or 20 showing. (Not to imply that anyone here is a fool, I am speaking generically about card playing).
IMO, the WTS has convinced this girl, who is holding 19, that she should "hit", that a "hit" is the safer alternative. For a supposed "religious" belief they have twisted the facts to make it look like there is a statistical, medical basis for the girls denail of that mode of treatment. IMO this is intellectually dishonest. Why aren't they brave enough to say simply "she should not have blood for religious reasons". Why do they always play this game of pretending that there is a strong scientific basis for the blood denial as well? Is their religious reason not reason enough?
~Quotes, of the "Even more risk averse when gambling with life" class
P.S. It appears from the above article that Shane Brady is trying to convince the world that this girl is not holding "19" (in this card game of life), but rather that she is holding a much lower hand, say "13". However, I would suggest that a team of doctors in BC knows the girl's risk status better than a Bethel-baker-turned-Watchtower-lawyer.
