In the Soviet Union it was illegal to listen to radio or television from the rest of the world, in the Theocratic Gulag it is illegal to use the internet. My how technology changes but human oppressors don't.

Sign of the Last Days THEN!

all through recorded history there have been people who have pointed to the calamities, horrors and disasters in the world, and preached that this signified an imminent end of the world.
this isnt even unique to christianity, which started off with strong millennial expectations in the 1st century, and for the most part retains the same expectations almost 2000 years later.

by Room 215 ini know, i know, the jws love to boast about ``honoring jehovah'' and having ``restored the divine name to its rightful place.
'' but my question is: is such casual off-hand use of the divine name really respectful?
i mean, the vast majority of us well know the names of our parents; but just how respectful would it be to go around referring to them as ``harry'' and ``alice?".

Witnesses love the exclusivity of the name, and they feel they are the only ones using it as it really should be used!
I believe that the JW's use the divine name almost like a brand. They use it to distinguish themselves from other faiths and believe that by using it they are proven to be the one true organization. The best way to honor God is not by constantly reciting his name but acting in an honorable way.

police in california who raided a private golf tournament say they found prostitutes' tents dotted around the course.. they detained over 100 golfers and arrested six others during the raid on the hidden valley golf club in norco.. the times says an la restaurant booked the course under the name golf ventures, thought to be an alias for its real name.. as the 100 competitors and 19 women were taken off for questioning, six people were led from the course in handcuffs.. the club says it is as shocked as police.. lisa mcconnell of the sheriff's department in riverside county, east of la, said: "as part of a golf tournament, sex acts were offered to participants for a fee.
there were tents set up around the course where people could pay for sex.".

I am a salesman for a trucking company. My office is down the street on Mission Blvd. from the Mira Loma Assembly Hall. My sales territory is in Norco and Corona. Part of my job is entertaining customers and my favorite way to entertain is by playing golf. I have played the Hidden Valley Golf Club several times. I laughed when I saw that article because Hidden Valley was at one time considered one of the best courses in the area. But with new courses like Goose Creek, Eagle Glen and Trilogy, they have lost a lot of business. I guess this novel type of tournament is their idea for getting business back.
If you come to Riverside County to play golf, I can't recommend Hidden Valley. The guy who designed it did a poor job. I understand he's never built another golf course since!

he told me that there is now a small period of time at the end that those who were not jw could be 'pardoned'.

I know of a prominent elder in Southern California (former circut overseer and current district assembly speaker) who has privately speculated that right before the end all the unbelieving family members of JW's will be swept into the organization in a last minute salvation binge right before the grand and glorious destruction that we all so fervently hope for.
Yeah right.

The 1975 Issue and Property Sales
by invisible inwhen i was a young kid of approximately 7 years old, i seem to recollect memories of 'encouragement' by the society for jw's to sell their properties, their homesteads, am i right in thinking this?
and if so, how many here were affected adversely by such decisions either on the part of their parents or who directly sold their houses thinking that the end was imminently nigh?
can anyone refresh my memory?

My parents sold their house and quit their jobs in 1972.
In 1976 they got jobs and bought another house.
Of course my mother will deny that this four year "vacation" had anything to do with WT predictions
