For me, most of it was after I learned TTATT. I didn't feel restricted any more to do the things I wanted. I still have an aversion against things like getting drunk, doing drugs, and smoking. I won't even get a tattoo. I love my body as it is too much to modify or harm it in anyway. And of course I'm not gonna do anything illegal to get me in jail.

It would be nice if something big did happen...something that would make a lot of people start questioning their beliefs, as they should be.

Blondie's Comments You Will Not Hear at the 09-02-2012 WT Study (TRUE FREEDOM)
by blondie intrue freedom.

Comment from a sister: is it freedom if you're constantly told how to think, act, and dress? (Referring to the 'peer pressure' that one may experience in the world).
I couldn't believe my ears. Did she hear what she was saying? If there's any place where people are told how to do things, it's in the org. And peer pressure is far greater in the org than outside of it, in my experience. There's a constant fear of thinking what the others will think of oneself. That's not freedom.

Flee from "Old Light"!
by smmcroberts insome witnesses fail to realize that "old light" is far more dangerous than any apostate writing.
i saw evidence of this when i reviewed "rutherford's rainbow" on amazon.com and mentioned that witnesses were discouraged from reading the old literature.
many witnesses responded that i was lying as they'd never been told this, and in fact had old literature on their shelves (which witnesses evidently equate with having read a book [e.g., see here where a witness justifies her ability to review the finished mystery without ever having read it by saying "i have it on my cd".]).

This is so true. It's exactly what got me in "trouble" - for example I couldn't figure out how the WT could use Matthew 24:36 as a basis to single out 1975 as a special year, and then afterwards use the same verse to say that it's impossible to know when, and then guilt the r&f who believed the WT-induced 1975 hype.

does the watchtower still believe this?
by lastchance inquestions from readers ?
some animals have characteristics that seem especially suited to killing, such as lions and poisonous snakes.
how can this be, if they were all vegetarians at one time?l.

This thread is shaking any beliefs I had left to their core, because all the points made make so much sense.

My mother took this opportunity to slam me for not doing more. She says I don't go out in field service enough, I don't have enough zeal, and I don't encourage others to go out. Even before I learned TTATT, she was saying these things, but not like today. She stole a whole hour of my time for this.
You know what? She's right. I don't do enough, because I don't want to do anything (for the WT) at all. It's not "the truth" like she thinks it is, and thus I have no motivation to continue what I was doing.
Sadly she's what you'd call a hardcore JW, and so this is just the start of a lot of torment for me. I don't know how much more pressure I'll be able to take before I tell her what's troubling me, and I still have at least a year to go until I move out.

From the WT's own publications: Being “the spirit of the truth,” God’s holy spirit could never be the source of error but would protect Christ’s followers from doctrinal falsehoods. (Compare 1Jo 2:27; 4:1-6. - Insight, Volume 2, pg. 1132

You are always told what to think, it’s constantly repeated for emphasis, you can’t have a thought that questions this and if you do, you are a bad servant of Jehovah. I asked her: I thought we were supposed to test the inspired sayings and make sure of what is true? So wait... when I am doing what the bible says I CAN do I am a bad person???
This thought came to me during a recent meeting, and I couldn't get my mind off of it. It's a pure violation of what the Bible says, but no one can see it.

jehovah being our father and the organization being our spiritual mother!

I've certainly been hearing it a lot more ever since it was said at the convention.
