Lovely story, Andi. Thank you so much. If you don't like the idea of Reader's Digest, consider Ladies Home Journal. I believe they also print sweet stories like this. You're a dear (deer?). Happy holidays to you and Neil.

Poison Ivy, of course (Uma Thurman). Reminds me of my wife: Lovelier than a rose, deadlier than a nightshade, she has that hypnotic kiss that can enslave any man to do her evil bidding. ;^)

aaaarrgh... i finally got the guts to tell my mom yesterday i wouldn't be attending any more meetings.
of course, i had my reasons all laid out (going to the meetings would be hypocrite of my part, etc.
) but, surprisingly, she didn't ask for any reason.
Mindfield (love your name btw),

on page 10 of the december 8, 2001 awake!, the article "hope for arthritis sufferers" feigns to offer encouragement to those afflicted with chronic arthritis.
note how the article describes some of the sad consequences of this condition:such limitations can cause frustration and negative felings about oneself.

On page 10 of the December 8, 2001 Awake!, the article "Hope for Arthritis Sufferers" feigns to offer encouragement to those afflicted with chronic arthritis. Note how the article describes some of the sad consequences of this condition:
Such limitations can cause frustration and negative felings about oneself. Gaku, aged 27, is one of Jehovah's Witnesses and says: "Not being able to share fully in the evangelizing work or fulfill congregation assignments makes me feel that as a person I have no value whatsoever." Francesca, who has battled with arthritis since the age of two, speaks of "being sucked deeper and deeper into a whirlpool of despair." Such despair can have adverse spiritual effects. Joyce, a Witness from South Africa, admits that she began isolating herself from Christian meetings. "I just could not face seeing anybody," she explains.
Significantly, if Gaku is wrong to equate his self-worth with his ability "to share fully in the evangelizing work or fulfill congregation assignments", this misplaced self-judgment is nowhere corrected in the article.
But, happily, arthritic Jehovah's Witnesses whose value as human beings is largely negated by their inability to perform as fully as their faithful brethren need not fear lack of all support:
In congregations of Jehovah's Witnesses, overseers take the lead in rendering such support. Setsuko says: "I can't describe how great the effect is on a person fighting illness when the elders listen and give comfort." However, as an arthritis sufferer named Daniel reminds us, "our spiritual brothers and sisters can only help if we let them." It is therefore important that sufferers stay in contact with fellow Christians, doing their very best to attend congregation meetings. (Hebrews 10:24, 25) There they can receive the spiritual encouragement needed to endure.Ah, what comfort for the afflicted ones! How reminiscent of Jesus' active concern for the sick and disabled. A virtual paraphrase of Jesus' words: "Come to the Kingdom Hall, all you whose self-worth is determined by your 'theocratic works', and the elders will encourage you to continue doing your very best ..."

hello bethel,.
by now it's clear to all observers that the organization is running out of steam, especially in the developned nations, and no amount of hyped-up propaganda about ``quick-build'' kingdom halls, standing up to the nazis, lifetime experiences of pioneers, etc., etc.
can rectify.. what's needed urgently:.
Metatron and Room 215,
I believe it was Ray Franz who used the expression "victims of victims," and I believe it was in reference to the GB themselves. (Ray is pretty forgiving when it comes to those guys, perhaps because he was once one of them.) However, "followers of followers" seems very apropos of the congregation dwellers, who unquestioningly follow the elders, who
unquestioningly follow the circuit overseers, who unquestioningly follow the district overseers, who unquestioningly follow ... Unfortunately, this chain never reaches any higher than the Governing Body, who (by their own admission) are not inspired and cannot be held accountable for anything they say or do.
You are probably right about lack of inspired leadership or ethical motivation leading to significant reform anytime soon. Since September 11, the Organization has been given another reprieve ... the confused political state of affairs lends itself to inevitable speculation--including the U.N. outlawing Islam (and all other religion, of course), eventual cries of 'peace and security', and a looming Armageddon. This buys the GB more time and shifts focus away from the numerous embarassments they are dealing with currently. And it's given JWs another mirage on the horizon, one toward which they will crawl hopefully and inexorably, only to discover that taste in their mouths is the sand from another generation of life stories in The Watchtower.

something came across my desk, today indicating ibsa's association with the wcc.. i can't reveal what at this moment, as this would reveal my id.. however i know that there are posters out there who will verify my credentials.. what is needed is someone willing to carry out some digging in the info about the wcc.. let's just say that the scarlot beast isn't the only one to be ridden by the society.. once this is out in the open, more can be revealed,.
any info much appreciated.
regards to all, especially max and oz.
Jemimah,
Would it not be possible to email some one of us privately, providing sufficient specifics to enable us to 'ferret out' what it is you are talking about? I've searched and find nothing, others are searching and (evidently) finding nothing. If you cannot give specifics publicly here for fear of revealing your identity, can you not do so privately to some trusted individuals so this issue does not remain a questionable tease?
Best wishes,

i see so many posts here saying that jehovah's witnesses are brain dead.
i just don't think that is the case.
i think its worse than that.
JoelBear,
I think there is much truth in what you have said. And in the spirit of the words "Who really is my neighbor?", you are showing the spirit of Christianity in speaking of all JWs as your 'brothers and sisters.'
Best wishes,
