but if they molest two they are forced to resign.
did anyone else read this crap?
for every one child he gets caught molesting, there's probably another fifteen more that never get reported.

my main problem with organised religion is when totalitarianism comes into play.
thats when you get institutions like the catholic church in its earlier years.
that should never be allowed.. jerome
I don't believe in it, an organized religion is to me a falsehood arisen out of a truth.
They are almost always the result of one persons profound experience with 'the eternity, 'Love', 'Truth', 'god' orwhatever you want to call it which is the truth I previously spoke of.
Then however the problems come in when they or someone else as a result of this experience think it is necessary or that they are granted the RIGHT to interpret it in relation to life. They start making up rules and blah blah blah, always a product of the culture they were raised in and their own personal biases and weaknesses.
I wouldn't discredit any of the experiences but people who are indoctrinated into a mindset WILL interpret their experience in relation to that.
Check out some of these experiences for a very small example of the diversity, and when you read them just keep one thing in mind, look for commonalities.
http://www.bodysoulandspirit.net/myexp.htm
I have been studying the different religions and belief systems for years now. I have studied and researched a lot and the only consistent commonalities throughout EVERYTHING I have studied from witch-stuff, pagan, hinduism, buddhism, christianity, blah blah blah, the only consistencies are LOVE and THE GOLDEN RULE (which is obviously a product of love.
You run into trouble when you start trying to attach a meaning beyond that, and really what more do we need?
One interesting note of similarity you cight notice in the stories on that webpage and most profound experiences is the fact that time seems to be revealed as static, or an illusion. This has very interesting implications if you relate it to findings in physics.
Personally it's just fun and interesting for me. I'll keep searching while I'm here but the Love thing is all there is . . . everything else is just detail.

i was so happy to read the following quote by janh in another thread: about logic vs reason[ did jan mean emotion here?
], i think a factor may well be that fewer women have high education.
it is a worrying trend that women still do not choose education in 'hard sciences.
Hey QJumper! I just have to jump in here and express my difference of opinion on the points you brought up, I have a pretty decided opinion about this subject, and the arguments you presented lured me irresistably. It'll be great for Outnfree with her paper too (I know where I'm coming for ideas next semester!)
As far as continuing to disallow euthenasia because of risk of abuse-
practically everything is a potentially disastrous tool for mayhem and murder if misused, cars may=reckless drivers, roadrage, carjackings, ddrunkdrivers. WE don't limit life (and shouldn't the right to choice of deathe) just because someone may misuse or abuse it.
There are already crazy nurses and doctors who are caught (after many patients die mysteriously) these #'s would not increase significantly were euthanasia to be legalized. Opportunity isn't the lure here, they already have ample opportunity to kill patients if they are crazy enough to want to. As far as doctors being legally responsible for making the call-I don't see why on earth they would make any calls in that regard. People would do it for themselves.
Evil family members? As far as evil family members go, basically the same argument holds true, and if a persons family is that evil, hey there are probly worse things they could do to them than kill them!(I'm not entirely joking here either)
AS far as the trustworthyness of the legal system goes . . . yeah it can really suck, people get screwed and killed every day because of flaws, loopholes, assholes etc., but all in all its about as good as it's probly gonna get, its all we have, and for the most part it serves us pretty well.
SUICIDE
Now here I leave the realm of reasoning through logic, and am absolutely inspired to reason through emotion!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH SUICIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a problem with the suffering which LEADS to suicide!!
If we are talking about physical suffering that is really cut and dried
you said:
"Personally, I would be against any kind of suicide, even when it means eduring unbearable agony"
OBVIOUSLY YOU HAVE NEVER ENDURED UNBEARABLE AGONY!! (theres a reason it is so labeled)
The "unbearable agony" endured by people dying any one of the many excruciating deaths can be SO unbearable that it is not even quenched with an absolute maximum dose of opiates.
Can you imagine that?
I don't even want to, I have never been in THAT much pain, however I have been in pain significant enough that if it were to continue unabated I could not die fast enough.
That pain was childbirth . . . most people say that they blissfully forget the degree of that pain, but I made a specific effort to analyze it so I could describe it . . . imagine this . . .
The area from above your naval to mid-thigh is compressed (mind you you feel the pain that would be subsequent from every fraction of this compression) to the size of a pea,
the area from above your navel to mid-thigh is compressed to the size of a pea . . . and . . .
a white hot blow torch is applied to it!!! I am not freaking kidding here, not one whit.
If there had been no end in sight for that pain but death, though that death might be 5days, 5 mos., 5yrs, or50yrs away, I would find a way to end it as quickly as possible (time wouldn't be a blessing here it would be a curse)! All I could think of was getting away from the pain, I lay there and had one spontaneous and unbidden continuous thought, and that was of jumping through the second story plate glass window and running, just running away from the pain.
I know what you are saying Qjumper when you say:
"If you could have an operation that would mean you could only laugh and never, ever cry, would you have it done?"
Because I have laughed, I have cried, I have endured physical as well as emotional agony and I know the value these have brought me . . . when I held my daughter in my arms I remember thinking . . .
'Love, Love, unquenchable, unfathomable, unimpeachable . . . inexpressible Love . . . I would endure this pain every day to hold you in my arms.'
And I would. I wouldn't however endure it ALL day, there would really be no choice there Q. That level of pain lasted only an hour or so before they administered the epidural . . . if I could have left my body I would have. I wouldn't have chosen DEATH, because there was an end in sight, and a reward I could only at that point imagine.
But for some people the only possible cessation for unendurable agony is death. And they know best when to choose it. If they don't who does?
If they don't who does?
As far as suicide because of psychic suffering goes, my opinion is the same as above. Because of the power of the subject, the fact that it doesnt't really belong in this thread, and the intensity of my feelings regarding the subject I will not go further than that in this thread.
But hey Q, I hear your heart . . and it sounds good,
Raven101
hi brothers and sisters.
i am a jw circuit overseer.
you are welcome to visit my pages.. http://www.angelfire.dom/ky/proclaimer.
I knew I had seen your picture before Carlo, the minute I clicked over to your site!
I tried to find the 'way out to my father' (actually though he's my brother, I'm christ, and god is our Mother . . . but hey, you were pretty close, for a mortal anyway), but you STILL haven't got the DAMNED game set up yet!!!
What's up with that?
I'm a little disappointed in you, but since you read your bible you know I'm the forgiving type,
Raven101
just how angery are you?.
how badly has the jw experience affected you?.
at the moment i'm very angery at the organisation.. why?.
Sleepy, I am very sorry for what you all have been going through and send my most heartfelt wishes for the best of luck and healthe for your father and family.
The fact that this negligence of spiritual and material responsibility is exhibited by an organization which basically claims to be god on earth, is proof enough of the extent of the lie.
But I believe one thing is true, the truth and 'god' is in your hearts, as it always has been. No one and nothing, has, or ever will for a moment ever take that away from any of you.
Listen to your heart and take comfort there, all the strength you will ever need is there.
WE are here for you too,
Raven101
"all of them witches" was the name of the book that mia farrow read in in the film "rosemary's baby" which eventually lead her to believe that ruth grodon, ralph bellamy, and several other actors from the 40's and 50's rooming in her apartment were satan-worshippin' wiitches.
in this day in age i think people who are witches in real life have to live with various stereotypes permeated from movies, t.v.
shows, and whatnot.
CLARITY OF VISION
two jws, man and wife, were just at my door.
she started presenting the watchtower and i just saw red!
i can't believe the anger that welled up in me.
I think both Target and LadyLees stories are a beautiful example of the harmony of the universe (multi-faceted beast that WE are) at work.
LadyLee, your approach was the approach that is most generally productive . . . to SOLICIT THOUGHT . . . and it was obviously a very harmonious and mutually productive exchange. A reason for celebration.
Some people are so deeply entrenched in their belief system, however, that they are largely incapable of being moved subtly to independent thought . . . I believe at least one of the individuals at your door Target, fell into that category. We should never deny the truth that inspires pure emotion, it is drawn from same well as intuition.
You said:
"I never expected to feel that kind of anger. It took me totally by surprise."
"I was so angry I could hardly talk. I did not know the depth of my feelings until then."
I have full faith in the harmony behind all of creation, and as such I have no doubt there were very real benefits to all three of you from this encounter.
It sounds to me like the woman knew nothing about the situation, she was blindsided, you can be sure this will inspire thought.
It sounds like the man probably knew what you were talking about . . .
"He brought up the crap about the Bible saying two witnesses but that the elders encourage the victims to go to the police"
he had certainly contemplated the implications of the two witness thing.
Whether these people choose to use the thought inspired by this encounter to call them to closer inspection of the organizations and their own beliefs, or to further entrench themselves into their respective stances is their choice.
You can be sure however that the truth behind the display of your instinctive emotion gave them a bump in the direction that is right for them at this time.
Thanks to both of you for sharing your stories today,
Raven101

Excellent point there about DNA, Devon! My thoughts exactly, I mean, isn't that what its about . . . EVIDENCE? Isn't that how a wrong is PROVEN?
Back in biblical days they had only TESTIMONY, and the 2 witness thing (besides the obvious patriarchal overtones I won't go into) was to protect someone against FALSE testimony.
Only idiocy or something worse would prevent someone from using a fail-safe form of evidence.
On the WT websight I believe it says witnesses to two separate crimes MAY be allowed to fill the two witness criteria, wording is everything (ask any lawyer). MAY is even weaker than CAN, both leave the possibility of action or inaction, the wording would be WILL if they had any intention of making a real change.
I would be the first to be happy if I thought the new statement meant any real change in policy, whatever I might think of their motivation, I would be glad that the rights and safety of children was being considered, at least to something approaching a decent standard.
