if they are indeed happy, despite a total lack of intellectual stimulation during these meetings, then let them be witnesses! :) -

Attacking Newbie JW's
by VioletAnai ini was attacked here when i first admitted that i was studying with the jw's.
i also noted that blessed_something or other (sorry, bad memory) was attacked also....just because we say something positive about the jw's!
i think that is mighty unfair and defeats the purpose of you trying to turn us against the jw's.

Hello Violet,
since my ex girlfriend is a witness i studied the bible with several of these people.
i cannot agree that they are evil. they all seem very nice but they all completely lack the ability to think independently. no matter how ridiculously stupid the stories in the old testament are or how bogus the teachings of the watchtower ass. are they believe everything without any doubt.
if you find Jesus teachings appealing (which i can understand very well!) and you want to believe in god, do it! No one will stops you!! but consider the possibility to do it without becoming one of these watchtower drones.
before you waste your time listening to their nonsense and later by preaching this shit to others get a book about biology and read the bible by yourself!... i think you will profit much more from it!PS: have you noticed that they don't care about poor people? i think real Christians wouldn't act that way.

@ singsongboi:
i can completely object that statement. there are so many crazy people in these coutries ... i am sure the witnesses could find some new victims there! -

Question for those who believe the bible.
by seven006 ina thread started by realist which mentioned the flood and the disappearance of the dinosaurs got me thinking.
since i do not own a bible i had to download one from the internet to check a few things out (my computer is really pissed at me now).
it's been many years since i read the bible but i needed to be accurate in my research to ask my question.

@ Dave:
there is a very good book about the bible that explains how these stories came about to be. the title is GOD A BIOGRAPHY written by Jack Miles. It won the pulitzer prize.

so noah was the only non angel-human bastard? why did he preach to these people if it was certain already from the beginning that they are evil?
where does this angel/human hybrid idea come from...it sounds a little whack! -

I can prove that God does not exist.
by LucidSky injust thinking.... i can believe that a higher intelligence entity (hie) cannot be proven.
i am willing to accept that a hie cannot even be definitively induced, even for marvels that we cannot demonstrate at this time (e.g.
natural transformation of elements into living material).

@lucidsky:
there is plenty of evidence that the bible is NOT gods word but merely a bogus book written by some guys 2600 years ago.
about god:
you are absolutely right...there is neither evidence for nor against his existence, so its a matter of preference if you want to believe in him or not. i prefer to remain neutral (agnostic) ... if he exists fine and if not fine too. -

@heaven:
i red the old testament and find it repulsive and bogus. the new testament however presents a very appealing ethic and i can understand that you find comfort in these texts.
i hope you keep faith in jesus despite what scientists say as long as it makes you happy! :) -

@farkel: hilarious and brilliant!
@larsguy: hmmm...you are streching the laws of physics a little bit(which god could do of course).
first of all, blowing the water into space would require winds with a speed of at least 11 km/sec which is about 30 times the speed of sound! (just to clarify this...there are other theories that can explain the presence of water on other planets pretty well!)
about the canopy...i assume you mean a layer all around the earth...like the air shield in spaceballs :)
in this case:
1. how come the sun didn't melt this ice canopy? the radiation from the sun heats up the moon surface to about 100 C during the day!
2. lets say the ice-canopy was really high up (10000 km above ground...how the water got up there is another miracle). in this case the thickness of the ice layer would still have to be at least 1km to contain enough water to completely cover the earth. (the lower the ice canopy the thicker it would have to be) i think 1km of ice would still filter out all light!
3. the canopy would have to be centered exactly in the gravitaional center of the earth...otherwise it would crash into the earth. the earth gravitational field is however not 100% symmetrical which would require different ice thickness at different positions (very precise adjustments required...for God of course no problem..but still of the magnitude of a miracle).
4. i assume the rotaion of the ice canopy should keep it in orbit...the icefields located above the poles would not rotate however and therefor would fall down (unless it is superice that cannot crack and point 3. is fullfilled...with our laws of physics a miracle not even God can pull of).
5. why didn't the sea animals (including fish) die when everything was flooded with fresh water?your explanation would require at least half a dozen full size miracles. why would god use such a elaborate way to kill these people?

1914=1913?
by Nowhere inthis has frustrated me for a while.... ok, pretend that jerusalem was destroyed in october 607 bce.. ok then, 1 year later it would be in october 606 bce, right?.
and 2 years later it would have been in october 605 bce?.
.... and 606 years later it would be in october 1 bce?.

http://www.timeanddate.com/counters/mil2000.html
there was no year 0 (or AD 0, 0 BC). The year before 1 A.D. is defined as year 1 B.C., so year 0 was skipped. Therefore, January 1st, year 1 is defined to be the start of the 1st century and the 1st Millennium. Besides it is highly doubtable that we really live in the year 2002. there are many years, especially around 900ad for which no real proof exists. so one year more or less doesn't matter :)
