  What does the average Witness know?

  i have to wonder what the average witness today knows?

  i guess they are under orders not to talk to anyone that might actually be able to inform them of any facts that are negative or unflattering to the society, but what have they found out anyway, through whatever means, even the publications?.

  1. do they know that russell got a lot of dates from the measurements of pyramids, including 1914?

  @ concerned mama:
  i have been in a similar situation. my ex girlfriend is a witness. the amazing thing is that she is a biology major in college. although she is rather bright and interested in understanding many things she does not question (or at least doesn't admit it) the watchtower teachings. she started the relationship but broke it up after half a year because of bad conscience (being with a non witness is apparently considered a sin). i wish i could help her see the real truth about the organization but i guess as long as the person is not ready one can do nothing for them.
  i hope in your case the boy is not forced to leave your daughter eventually.

  why do you think that we are at war with you???

  that is one of the things that make me the sickest of your ho dump inbred relegion because you always think that you guys get the butt end of the deal and that the jw's are always being persecuted for doing the right thing.

  just a little history back during hitlers reign, the witnesses were not persecuted, in fact they were in good standing with him!!!!

  there are some propositions that rational substances know are true but do not know why they are true.

  this concept is illustrated when one reflects on problems associated with self-referentiality (godel's theorem).

  physicists also work with a priori ideas that they take as givens, notions without which thought would be impossible.

  @ dawn: the different species have not been created. there are many examples where one can observe speciation (eg. different drosophila species on hawaii). the molecular principles that underlie slow but steady changes in the populations have been discovered as well. together with the archeological record and sequencing data from more and more species there is no doubt about the accuracy of evolution.

  by the way, evolution takes place in many fields not just speciation. think about the development of languages. french, spanish, portuguese, italien all developed from the same ancestral language by small gradual changes.

  i recently got hold of the book the catholic answer to the jehovah's witnesses (louise d'angelo, maryheart catholic information center, meriden, connecticut, 1981).

  it's a pretty critique of the jws in many parts, especially on the topic of "jws and false predictions".

  with regard to "the generation of 1914" it said:.

  do the people who lead this religion and who write all the stuff really believe what they write and teach???

  it would be remarkable if a bunch of such braindead people would be able to run such a organization (would me almost make to believe that god has indeed a hand in this :)
