  What Friggin' Hypocrites!!

  nice to see you all still hanging out.. here's what has me pissed this morning:.

  there's this elder who i've know since i was about 8. he was one of these super spiritual m.s.

  Give him the benefit of the doubt.

  Be on your toes and completely alert, but at the very least give the poor soul a chance.

  The fact he was so rigidly shunning you and now he has gone the route of desperately soliciting your help even though you are no longer a JW and even carry a sidearm.. shows he is not the hardcore JW who applied their doctrine so harshly now, and it speaks volumes about his position.

  He has no one else to turn to.

  This would be a prime scenario in which you could give him a
  "reverse witness."

  What an opportunity to show him true Christian love. I would make mention of it next time you see him. Remind him of how rigidly he avoided you, and how harsh he was in his words. Ask why the "brothers" are not helping him, for surely he went to them first.
  Yet, now when he is in a needy position, you are there showing love despite the way he once treated you. At the very least it would make any person with one iota of emotion think.

  He may be on his way out of the cult. This is your chance to help someone exit as you once made your exit.

  However, like I said at the beginning of the post, it IS the loving thing to do to help him.. just be alert.

  I admire your conducting research yourself to better understand the damage the WTBTS does to children born into the cult.

  I was a 3rd generation JW. My mother was born into the JW 55 years ago to give an idea of the kind of history my family has with this religion. My grandfather was at the fabled convention at Yankee Stadium / Polo Grounds in NY, etc. and an elder for over 45 years.

  The totalitarian control on a child's life within that religion is not easily understood unless you have experienced it.

  My entire life was mapped out for me from birth, and I was basically indoctrinated from infancy that nothing else mattered but devotion to the JW. I was baptized at age 12.. ironic that they proclaim there is no pressure for children to get baptized, but the inexperienced youth are browbeaten endlessly with insinuations in either magazine articles to be covered in the TMS or from adults:

  "What Prevents YOU From Being Baptized?"

  and even at a young age you see the politics and manuevering.

  Choice A for a child: Get baptized, be praised by your parents and accepted into the fold of the entire congregation and the other youth who are your only allowed associates.

  OR

  Choice B for a child: Refrain from getting baptized, and be "marked" as bad associations and blackballed from all gatherings.

  You do the math.

  Then as you get older, you are not allowed at school parties, or proms, or from playing sports, or any after-school activities.

  Then even when you excel academically and have scholarships for college available entirely paid for, you are "counseled" by the elders who have $300,000 homes themselves that you:

  "Should put the Kingdom first, and pioneer, college is for the materialistic and prideful in the last days of this system."

  How can one NOT see the hypocrisy there? But as a youth you are not supposed to question the "elder arrangement".

  It has been many years since the above events happened to me, and I have since gotten a college degree and am doing pretty well for myself.

  Alas, the scars and memories remain.

  They Don't Like 'Downsizing'

  bethelites and higherups, they don't like the word.

  Good post Metatron, and a very true one as usual.

  However, in typical WTBTS fashion, we know that a spin-tactic is forthcoming.

  My guess is they will apply the old WTBTS addage:

  "The love of the greater number will cool off"

  and apply that to the decrease in numbers as a prophesied sign that the end is imminent (as if it has not been imminent for 150 years)
  thereby driving the loyal drones of the WTS who lack the intellectual fortitude to question doctrine for themselves into a religious frenzy.

  This is nothing more than a desperate attempt to spike statistics, especially with the 15-minute publisher arrangement and other changes brought into motion.

  Sickening corporation the WTBTS is.

  "Downsizing" is something I relish in watching take place.

  Where "live and let live" ends.

  a question in a post and by an e-mail was sent to me regarding my "live and let live" life style that i attributed to myself, and something i live by.. to clear that up, i take each person i come in contact on an individual bases.. however, should such a person or organization come in to my area, punch my sister in the eye...then proceed to come to me and punch me in the eye.

  "live and let live" pretty much goes out the window at that point.

  that's a situation of "direct attack", and i just don't turn my cheek with that.. there are a few people on this board that i'm willing to discuss the situation that had happened to me this past friday.

  My heart goes out to you D8TA.

  Having read the majority of your posts since you joined this site, I must say I respect you as a person possessing intelligence and reason.

  Not to mention, you are a StarWars and Mace Windu fan like me.

  I know what it is like to feel pain and anger because of actions taken by the WTBTS either directly or indirectly which divide families and slander names.

  The other post concerning you putting that snobby little brat in his place for harassing an elderly couple also touched me.. because you remind me of me.

  Well today is the day that I leave the WTS

  this morning i told my wife about my decision to step down as a ms and that i also would'nt be attending any meetings.

  she made a few comments that i expected her to make, but strangely enough she was for the most part very silent.

  she made it clear that she was against the decision but outside of a few other comments she said very little.
