one thing that really doesn't add up with the organization and their registrating to be a corp.(yes i have to put this in quote sorry it's called non-profit corp.) is the very fact that they play in the worldly system of things while they tell you to keep out of it.

(while they see nothing wrong in themselves playing the stock market with other peoples money) think about it where did jesus say to register god's organization as a corporation?.

furthermore if you were living in jesus' period of time who would be the president-vice-president-secratary- treasurer-shareholders...?.

Circare, I think you are correct when you say that criticizing the WTS Corp for acting like a business corporation doesn't make a lot of sense.

The issue I have with them is that they never come across as a business corporation to their members, but rather as God's one true channel through which the Holy Spirit speaks.

Never is it brought out that there are shares of stock or profits or subsidiary businesses, but rather that the WTS is above all that money-grubbing stuff that is engaged in by Christendom. And fools that we were, we believed them.

We believed that all funds were being used for the preaching work. We believed that there was no profit being made on the literature....the "donations" only cover actual printing costs. We decried those who pointed out that the WTS dabbled in commercial enterprises. After all, there were all those Watchtowers and Awakes pointing the finger at churches that DID engage in secular activities.

We are like the betrayed spouse who finally is shown the snapshots and videos of their "faithful" mate who has been engaging in adulterous affairs for years. They said they were faithful, and we believed them.

While I do agree that we all need to get on with our lives and not waste any more time nit-picking, I honestly don't see how exposing the dirty underbelly of the WTBTS is useless.

I know I didn't choose to be spoonfed.....I was afraid to do otherwise. I tried to do some research in secret, always afraid that I would be found out and thrown out of God's organization where I would be left to die.

Perhaps it's somewhat different growing up in the JW's. When it's all you've known, and you have been taught that to disobey the words of the Watchtower is to spit in God's face, it's very difficult to break free.

I find it good to talk about these things because it gives me some closure....it verifies that I am not evil or insane....it proves to me that others have experienced what I have experienced and it validates those experiences.

I also feel that openly discussing these issues and the shortcomings of the WTBTS might possibly help someone to avoid what we are all trying desperately to recover from.

The scars are deep.....sometimes scars hurt and need attention.

i am of the belief that we never truly get to know one another and that even husbands and wives know perhaps only a small percentage of each other.

the reasons for this are manifold.

Have you had this happen to you?

as a jw i remember being told that we never really did enough.

it didn't matter how hard you tried, it just never seemed like we did enough for the "congregation" or the "society.. i remember all the talks about what would happen if you left the "oganization".

how your life would be miserable, you would be like the dog returning to your own vomit, etc.. how long does this last?

Andyman, three years is hardly any time at all. I will say that being on the Internet and relating to people on the DB's and through e-mail has been one of the best things I have ever done.

I was in for 30 years, and have been basically inactive for 15. I can't honestly say that I'm totally over it yet. I was so ingrained with the idea of "keeping clean from the world" that I got into the habit of isolating myself.

Although I HAVE made some friends, it's very difficult, and I really have no idea of how to go about it. I've found that it's easier to start branching out with those who have shared my experiences.

LOL I agree. Friend would keep interrupting the proceedings with comments on their "circular reasoning" and ask them to substantiate EVERY phrase. By the time he finished with them, they would be begging HIM for mercy.

so how long have all you guyz here been apostates anyway, just curious?.i mean, it must be kind of cool to reflect and think...."well, heck, i'm a damned freaking apostate" or altleast a closet apostate, of which most of you are, i think?, right?.yeah, such a cool label is "apostate" huh!.but i'm interested, just how did all here personnally come to realise 'the truth' aint really that?, what set you on that track and made you look outside the bounds of wt literature into so-called apostate areas.. and what finally convinced you that its all just a heap of nonsense?

and forced you to shockingly conclude you had been living a lie?.what did it do to you at that moment, i mean, how did you deal with this blatant self admission that the wt was wrong?

did it crack you up or what...or did you just laugh it off or something?..

waiting....you summed it up beautifully. The sense of betrayal. The knowledge that you were lied to....openly, blatantly, and to no good purpose.

I remember being told to be quiet...for the good of the congregation. I remember the sense of shock I had at realizing that "some are more equal than others" and can do as they wish with no repercussions.

The WTBTS creates this situation by denigrating every other religious organization, and by holding up their faults and decrying how horrible they are....all the while declaring how "different" and "unique" is God's organization...until something happens to expose the dirty laundry....then the "we're only imperfect men" defense is pulled out.

When an organization declares itself to be God's only true channel and above reproach, and the only one accomplishing God's work, and different from the world, and the conduit for the Holy Spirit, they should expect to be criticized when they do not live up to what they purport to be.

Interesting questions. Funny, though, I doubt many would consider themselves to be apostates.

As ridiculous as it sounds, the word "apostate" has been burned into our consciousness so that it is the worst thing anyone could EVER be.

I grew discouraged with the lack of love, the cliques, the lies, and the inconsistencies in doctrine....as well as the flip-flopping new light. Not a progression to a deeper understanding, but the issues that went back and forth pretty much every year...such as the treatment of disfellowshipped people.

Even though I could not go and was inactive, I spent a lot of time blaming myself for being weak, for not having the proper perspective, for being a failure.

My epiphany, so to speak, came at a time when everything seemed to be going wrong. I had not bothered to pray after becoming inactive because I KNEW that Jehovah would not listen to me....I was not keeping up with all the requirements.

This particular time, however, I was so low in every way that I just cried out for help. Within seconds a feeling of calm enveloped me, and I felt that my prayers were being answered. It occurred to me at that moment that if the JW's were wrong about who was worthy to pray, then maybe THEY were the ones wrong about the other issues....not me.

After connecting with people on the Internet who had been through experiences very similar to mine, I found myself sitting very often at the keyboard and sobbing.....the catharsis had begun.

I don't think I could ever laugh it off. This was my life for 30 years. It's getting better, but I still feel that I have arrived on Earth out of some sort of strange time warp, and I'm still learning how to cope.
