Hospitality hour?

so i just talked with my jw mom and of course she had a very busy weekend with the memorial and then sunday meeting.

then she said that she went to a hospitality hour after the sunday meeting.

has anyone heard of this?

It's seriously stupid they don't have kitchens/fellowship rooms at kh's. Why not?? Is all that friendly socializing a distraction from field service? they could have potlucks....I mean..... everybody bring a dish dinners! Memorial service meals right on site instead of having to travel! And yes, coffee after the meeting!! I guess it's all just too much unfathomable fun.

I don't see it happening. Plus, they would have to write a thousand page rule book if they had a kitchen and fellowship hall on site.

Why only 7 or 8 members on the Governing Body?

now and then someone hears a rumor that the gb might go with 12 members instead of the 8 (or now 7) they currently have.

the value of 12 is understandable, which might even drive the rumors every time they plan to add another 4 or 5 new persons to the gb helpers list.

of course, a rumor that steals their thunder may also promote a delay, even if true.. i'm sure this quote from the watchtower was previously commented upon as a good explanation for the watch tower's best reason to leave the number at 7 or 8:.

Worst Memorial Talk Ever!

i honestly have never heard such claptrap being delivered in a memorial talk.. the speaker repeatedly put down the way other religions administered the bread & wine, and claimed that witnesses do it exactly as the bible describes.

oh yeah????.

he forgot to mention - when reading aloud 1 corinthians 11:25 - that after passing the bread, a full meal was to be shared, before the wine was passed around!

Funny they would say Holy Spirit prayers couldn't be written....when the bible was written by Holy Spirit!

one of my pet peeves as a witness was how brothers used to obviously NOT be praying to God, but showing off how well they had listened to the meeting, reviewing the talks, as if God needed to hear that again...or emphasizing a particular point they wanted to make sure someone heard, talking to the cong, not God. It was all a joke, really, and then at the end they would say something as IF they had been talking to God to wrap it up. I hated it all. So happy to be OUT. Faded, done, and away. :)

more than 80% of pregnant women suffering from the cancer, called acute promyelocytic leukaemia, will go into remission with proper treatment, and the outlook for their babies is good.. .

Extremely sad situation. Do witnesses even realize the HORRIBLE 'witness' this gives to the whole hospital, the city of Sydney, and whoever reads this case worldwide? their stupid blood policy not only kills people but shows how heartless they are, and no amount of door knocking or cart sitting will undo it.

People often read prayers they had written beforehand at the closing prayer at my church. Actually when i was asked to do the closing prayer, I also wrote it beforehand. these are often the best prayers, remembering everything you want to pray, and putting thought into it. Plus I absolutely would go blank otherwise. Thinking on my toes: not a strength of mine!!

How many members left the Watchtower because of all the Hatred and Anti-christian behavior? Were you exposed to betrayal, lies and slander against your family?

i am trying to wrap my head around 2014 and all the evil we experienced while the elders and overseer said "wait on jehovah because that's what all the true believers do!

" and i explained it's too painful to see the wicked people who brought my family suffering giving talks and providing other witness families with instruction we are to use when the end comes.

why are the quite members those who get treated like trash while members who call down evil upon the organization get everything they want so they will keep their mouths shut?.

There were always people I didn't like so much because they were more self righteous or judgmental, but mostly I loved the witnesses I knew, and still love them. I know being in elders meetings with them they take on different personalities, but in real life they are just hard working people trying to do their best, and they are being fleeced by the org and told they are never good enough.

I tended to avoid uber witnesses and not get close to them, but there were plenty other nice almost normal people. Some of them I love so dearly that it hurts to know they think I have gone down the wrong path and think ill of me. But ultimately you have to live your own life, no one else can live it for you. You have to suck it up and not think about what other people are thinking, but do what is best for your own sanity and your soul and your children.

"Gerson Therapy" in Tijuana, Mexico

since at least back to the 1960s in canada, jws have been travelling to mexico for cancer treatment.

and, i believe, other medical treatments.

because i watched my uncle die of cancer back in 1962, unable to receive treatment because the doctors couldn't operate without blood, i have always been curious as to why the jws with cancer were going to mexico.

What I heard about this is anecdotal. There was a rancher who had cows who ate grass from a certain hill. He noticed the cows who had abnormal growths would eat the grass from this hill and the growths would go away. So a doctor made a concoction using the special mix of greenery from the hill and blends it together in an herbal shake and gives it to cancer patients.

The nuttier sort of witness falls for this. I actually can't read the right hand side of your post above, but I heard that this is part of the Gerson Therapy, if not the main part. But these ARE witnesses we are talking about, delusional people susceptible to pipe dreams.

she passed faithful to the end to them!

just found out (second hand of course) and by someone on here that my faithful jw mum passed away within the last couple of days, dont know the exact day, and what cause, she spent the last few years living with my fanatical sister, she was 65 and survived my father by 10 years, bitter, angry and hateful till the end and never as so much enquired or asked how her 2 grandchildren ever were , they are 5 and 7!

feeling a mixture of emotions right now, they were lousy parents in all honesty, she suffered health wise so maybe its for the best, dont even know when the funeral is!

Jb she was still your mom and I know this is a very sad situation for you. You didn't much say hello in later years, and didn't get to say goodbye. You have no feeling of closure. I would suggest getting some pictures together and making an album.

the only thing you can do is accept that she was who she was, and this cult no doubt made her worse, and it was not your fault. I hope she rests in peace and you can take whatever happy times you shared and remember them well.

Life After the Being Separate from the World

realised that after leaving many years ago i don't have much of a social circle!!

has anyone else realised that we were not taught to be good in social circles except those that were approved associates?.

i recently went to a birthday party of a 45 year old guy and thought wow - this is what it is like to have formed a healthy social circle.

How about hearing that all worldly people will be destroyed and picked apart by carnivorous birds because they aren't witnesses, and going to school the next day and sitting in class and thinking about all the other children around you and imagining that happening to them :/. It screws with your head, it makes you weird and socially awkward to say the least.
