so many of us have been taught that the name of god is jehovah , if like me many have come to really appreciate god's name .. .
more accurately we , at least many or most love the name of jehovah , or more accurately should i say this pronunciation .
does god care what we call him , of course he does , he had his name written in the bible as yhwh ( best i can do on this computer ) , more than 6000 times .
If the exact name were so important, Jesus would have used it in his model prayer. Instead, he said 'when you pray, pray this way. Our father...'
You think any witness would ever pray without mentioning the name Jehovah (over and over and over?) well Jesus didn't mention it once! Ever. Seriously. Like phizzy said, he's just God. Yahweh was important to the Hebrews, he was their chosen people. But since Jesus came, he is everyone's God.
i know of the local congregation's issues, per an elder i know quite well.
he has said that nearly everyone in the congregation is suffering emotionally and mentally.
he said he has never seen so many witnesses with so many problems.
Jw's are only happy when they can forget about appearances and enjoy themselves for a little bit. This means, when they are by themselves watching a movie, or with trusted friends and can let loose, when they are on vacation (and only if there aren't any extremist witnesses with you on vacation) and when they have friends to their house without the danger of someone mentioning something witnessy. If someone mentions something witnessy, everyone clams up and stops enjoying themselves...'oh yeah, we all are a part of THAT.' That crazy thing that brought us together, but is a huge shadow over our lives.
Sports and entertainment and good food helps. But no, witnesses are not happy except the times they can mentally escape at little intervals.

what a crazy, emotional ride it is to finally face the truth about the doubts that i have carried for many years.
At a point of lonely desperation I asked God for direction, and he gave it to me by having certain people pass thorough my life, almost daily, who offered good advice, which led me to where I am now. A new church (an intelligent reasonable one), and a new extended family. You might choose to go all secular, but if not, pray for direction.
and I am really, really happy for you and your wife!! Your life is going to get so much better and more interesting and FREE.
as i wrote in a previous post i have recently written a da letter to the elders and haven't heard anything in the way of an announcement, phone call, or visit since.
i called the elder the letter was personally written to yesterday and left a vm to call me back which he did this morning.
he said they did get it but were meaning to call me and possibly meet with me to try and see if there was anything they could do to encourage me because they of course find this very sad.
Xkhanx, yes! Jw kids may be the only kids in the world who actually like weekdays better than weekends :/. I know I preferred going to school to knocking on doors and sitting through meetings. Weekends were the worst. they steal every bit of pleasure they can steal from you. Any free day you have, you feel guilty if you don't go out in service and do the most agonizing thing you can possibly do with your time!!
now I say, thank god for weekends!!!
as for us on the forums....I came back cuz I was curious about how the witnesses were handling 1914 these days, since it's been over a hundred years. I stayed because I saw that there's lots of people who need support, and I could have really used it myself when I was leaving as well. Plus it's fun to socialize with other ex jws.

i went to all the meetings, always, even if I had just had a baby, unless I was really sick, which didn't include having a cold. i never liked the meetings. But for some reason I never let myself skip them! Probably because of my huge guilt complex. But I haven't been to one in years, and I miss NOtHING about them.

i remember many years ago we had one of those post-district-assembly review parts (part of the service meeting) where they were discussing some "new light".. there was some confusion about which was the "new" and which was the "old" and a semi-discussion ensued with people commenting.
